MONACO (Principato di Monaco) 20 marzo 2024 – Mentre i flight case sono tornati dall’apertura della stagione MXGP in Argentina, il Campionato mondiale FIM Motocross 2024 si lancia in Europa per la prima volta, per intu Xanadú – Arroyomolinos per l’ MXGP di Spagna !
Il circuito duro di Arroyomolinos, vicino alla capitale spagnola Madrid, è stato introdotto per la prima volta nel calendario MXGP nell’anno pandemico 2020, e immediatamente i fan locali hanno esaudito il loro desiderio con una vittoria assoluta per il loro eroe Jorge Prado, solo il suo secondo nella classe MXGP in quel momento!
Avanti veloce di quattro anni e quell’eroe di casa, che ora corre per la Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, è ora il campione del mondo MXGP in carica e porta la leggendaria targa n. 1 con uno sfondo rosso nel suo paese natale come leader della serie, dopo la sua vittoria a l’ YPF Infinia MXGP dell’Argentina.
Questo circuito ha visto due vittorie complessive per Jeffrey Herlings nel team Red Bull KTM Factory Racing , e l’anno scorso è stato storico poiché ha battuto il record di tutti i tempi di vittorie nei Gran Premi con la sua 102esima vittoria in carriera. “The Bullet” arriva a questo round solo 7° nel Campionato del Mondo e sta cercando di recuperare parte dei 22 punti di deficit rispetto a Prado, che ha altri quattro Campioni del Mondo immediatamente dietro di lui in classifica!
Questa volta vedremo anche i round di apertura del Campionato mondiale di motocross femminile FIM e del Campionato EMX250 , con la medaglia d’argento WMX dello scorso anno Daniela Guillen che fornirà ai fan spagnoli un altro eroe di casa per cui tifare nel RFME GASGAS MX Junior Team, come sembra fare meglio del suo piazzamento complessivo del 2022 al 2 ° posto assoluto dopo una vittoria della seconda gara acclamata a gran voce! Ha un compito difficile davanti a sé, dato che Courtney Duncan, campionessa del mondo in carica e debuttante nel F&H Racing Team, ha vinto tutti e tre i GP WMX qui!

Jorge Prado ha eguagliato il record del leggendario pilota belga Eric Geboers con la sua 39esima vittoria in carriera nel Gran Premio di Spagna, e sembra cavalcare un’ondata di fiducia quando ha riconquistato la tabella rossa domenica dopo averla persa contro Tim Gajser del Team HRC in seguito alla vittoria dello sloveno nella gara di qualificazione RAM di domenica. Gajser non ha ancora vinto una gara GP all’intu-Xanadu Arroyomolinos, e cercherà di impedire a Prado di staccare più dei tre punti che li separano in questo momento.
Allo stesso livello di Tim in classifica c’è Romain Febvre del Kawasaki Racing Team e, nonostante la sua evidente abilità sulle piste dure, anche il francese non ha avuto dei tempi migliori sul circuito spagnolo, con una sola vittoria qui nel 2021, e ovviamente ha sofferto un grave incidente alla prima curva sabato che lo ha lasciato senza punti dall’evento del 2023.
L’unico ex campione del mondo che non fa parte di un team ufficiale, Pauls Jonass, ha comunque messo a segno un fantastico fine settimana in Argentina piazzandosi 4° in classifica per la Standing Construct Honda. Il lettone è improvvisamente nel giusto mix e ha reali prospettive di podio in un paese in cui ha vinto, nel 2018 a Red Sand.
Maxime Renaux del Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP è l’unico pilota ad aver vinto in entrambe le classi su questo circuito, avendo ottenuto la vittoria della MX2 nel 2021 nel suo cammino verso il titolo mondiale quell’anno e una doppia vittoria in gara nel 2022. Visita dell’anno scorso non è stato così dolce, tuttavia, poiché ha riportato l’infortunio al piede che lo ha costretto a restare fermo per gran parte della stagione.
Cercando di rimettersi in forma in casa, dopo essere stato costretto a saltare le gare di domenica in Argentina, c’è il prossimo grande talismano spagnolo Ruben Fernandez del Team HRC. Ha lavorato su un infortunio alla gamba riportato in un incidente alla prima curva e lui premerà per i suoi primi punti del 2024. Il pilota della Standing Construct Honda Alberto Forato è nella stessa situazione dopo che problemi con un ematoma lo hanno tenuto fuori dalle gare di apertura (Il comunicato era antecedente all’INFORTUNIO nuovo subito da Alberto che trovate CLICCANDO QUI). Anche Josh Gilbert ritorna per Gabriel SS24 KTM dopo essere caduto pesantemente durante la gara di sabato e ha permesso che un infortunio al gomito guarisse in tempo per la Spagna.
Purtroppo non vedremo Brent van Doninck del JM Racing Honda o Jago Geerts del Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP a causa dei loro infortuni in Patagonia. Auguriamo a entrambi il meglio per la loro guarigione.

L’Argentina ha visto il dominio totale di Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing con Lucas Coenen che ha vinto la RAM Qualifying Race sabato, poi il suo compagno di squadra Kay de Wolf ha completato incredibili rimonta in ciascuna delle gare di domenica per finire come vincitore assoluto del Gran Premio e nuovo leader del Campionato del mondo MX2.
La MX2 ha visto le stelle più giovani di questo sport mettersi in gioco in una sequenza di gare emozionanti, e il round spagnolo non dovrebbe essere diverso poiché gli specialisti del hard-pack cercano di trarne vantaggio prima che la stagione si diriga sulle sabbie della Sardegna per il round tre. Nessuno degli uomini in bianco ha brillato qui nel 2023, quindi il gruppo degli inseguitori è pieno di speranza!
Simon Laengenfelder della Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing sarebbe stato frustrato se non avesse vinto la classifica generale in Patagonia, dato che il tedesco ha vinto la prima gara di un Gran Premio negli ultimi cinque round nel 2023, e lo ha fatto di nuovo in Sud America! Come negli ultimi quattro round dello scorso anno, tuttavia, non è riuscito a convertirlo in una vittoria in un GP e si trova a soli sei punti da De Wolf in campionato. Dovrebbe comunque essere pieno di fiducia in vista dell’intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos, visto che l’anno scorso ha vinto entrambe le gare di domenica con autorità. Con l’euforia di benessere che sicuramente circonderà la sua squadra grazie alla presenza di Prado, Simon cercherà ancora una volta la perfezione nella penisola iberica!
Terzo in classifica con un bottino costante di 40 punti in Argentina è stato Thibault Benistant per Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2, e il francese ha mancato il podio qui l’anno scorso, quindi cercherà di arrivare lassù! È stato negato nel 2023 dal futuro campione del mondo Andrea Adamo, che si trova al 5° posto nella classifica per la Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
La rivelazione dell’Argentina è stata senza dubbio il ritmo di Mikkel Haarup per il nuovissimo team Monster Energy Triumph Racing , dato che un bel 2° posto in gara due domenica ha portato la nuova moto britannica sul podio nel suo primo Gran Premio! Sia il danese che il suo compagno di squadra Camden McLellan, decimo, si sono allenati in Spagna durante tutto l’inverno, quindi si sentiranno a casa questo fine settimana!
Il marchio spagnolo Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing cercherà di più dal suo debuttante Marc-Antoine Rossi, che ha quasi vinto la sua prima gara di Gran Premio completa prima di un piccolo incidente e una brutta seconda manche lo ha lasciato 6 ° nel campionato. Anche a lui piace il terreno spagnolo! I piloti locali a cui prestare attenzione questo fine settimana includono Oriol Oliver del WZ Racing Team e il pilota della Fantic Factory Racing MX2 David Braceras .
La serie darà anche il benvenuto a una delle sue stelle dal 2023, poiché Liam Everts spera di essersi ripreso abbastanza dal pollice infortunato per unirsi alla mischia per la Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.

MXGP FIRST OUTING IN EUROPE WITH THE MXGP OF SPAIN THIS WEEKEND
MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 20 March 2024 – As the flight cases have made their way back from the MXGP season opener in Argentina, the 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship launches into Europe for the first time, to intu Xanadú – Arroyomolinos for the MXGP of Spain!
The hard-pack circuit in Arroyomolinos, close to the Spanish capital of Madrid, was first introduced to the MXGP calendar in the pandemic year of 2020, and instantly the local fans got their wish with an overall win for their hero Jorge Prado, only his second in the MXGP class at the time!
Fast forward four years and that home hero, now racing for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, is now the reigning MXGP World Champion, and carries the fabled #1 plate with a red background to his native country as the series leader, following his victory at the YPF Infinia MXGP of Argentina.
This circuit has seen two overall wins for Jeffrey Herlings on the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, and last year was a historic one as he broke the all-time record for Grand Prix wins with his 102nd career victory. “The Bullet” goes into this round only 7th in the World Championship and looking to make up some of the 22-point deficit to Prado, who has four other World Champions immediately behind him in the table!
This time around we will also see the opening rounds of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship and the EMX250 Championship, with last year’s WMX Silver Medallist Daniela Guillen providing the Spanish fans with another home hero to cheer for on the RFME GASGAS MX Junior Team, as she looks to go one better than her 2022 overall finish of 2nd overall after a loudly-hailed second race win! She has a tough task ahead of her though as reigning World Champion and F&H Racing Team debutant Courtney Duncan has won all three WMX GPs at the venue!
Jorge Prado equalled the record of legendary Belgian racer Eric Geboers with his 39th career Grand Prix win in Spain, and looks to be riding a wave of confidence as he regained the red plate on Sunday after losing it to Team HRC’s Tim Gajser following the Slovenian’s win in Sunday’s RAM Qualifying Race. Gajser has not won a GP race yet at intu-Xanadu Arroyomolinos, and will be out to stop Prado from pulling away any more than the three points between them right now.
Level with Tim in the standings is Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre, and despite his obvious hard track prowess the Frenchman also hasn’t had the best of times around the Spanish circuit, with just one race win here back in 2021, and of course suffered a massive first corner crash on Saturday that left him with no points from the event in 2023.
The only former World Champion not on a full factory team, Pauls Jonass, nonetheless scored a fantastic weekend in Argentina to lie 4th in points for Standing Construct Honda. The Latvian is suddenly right in the mix and has genuine podium prospects in a country that he has won in, back in 2018 at Red Sand.
Maxime Renaux of Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP is the only rider to have won in both classes at this circuit, having taken MX2 victory in 2021 on his way to the world title that year, and a maximum double race win in 2022. Last year’s visit was not so sweet, however, as he picked up the foot injury that put him our for most of the season.
Looking to bounce back into form on home turf, after being forced to miss Sunday’s races in Argentina, is the next big Spanish talisman Ruben Fernandez of Team HRC. A lower leg injury picked up in a first corner incident has been worked on and he will be pressing for his first points of 2024. Standing Construct Hondaman Alberto Forato is in the same situation after problems with a haematoma kept him out of the opening races. Josh Gilbert also returns for Gabriel SS24 KTM after crashing heavily out of Saturday’s race and has allowed an elbow injury to heal up in time for Spain.
Sadly we will not see Brent van Doninck of JM Racing Honda or Jago Geerts for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP due to their injuries from Patagonia. We wish them both all the best with their recovery.

Argentina saw total domination for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing as Lucas Coenen won the RAM Qualifying Race on Saturday, then his teammate Kay de Wolf completed stunning charges in each of Sunday’s races to finish as the overall Grand Prix winner and the new MX2 World Championship leader.
MX2 saw the younger stars of the sport absolutely lay it on the line in a sequence of thrilling races, and the Spanish round should be no different as the hard-pack specialists look to take advantage before the season heads to the sands of Sardegna for round three. Neither of the men in white shone here in 2023, so the chasing pack is full of hope!
Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Simon Laengenfelder would have been frustrated to not win the overall in Patagonia, as the German won the first race of a Grand Prix for the last five rounds in 2023, and did so again in South America! As with the last four rounds of last year, however, he could not convert that into a GP win, and lies just six points shy of De Wolf in the Championship. He should be full of confidence heading to intu Xanadu-Arroyomolinos though, as he won both of Sunday’s races with authority last year. With the feel-good buzz sure to surround his team due to Prado’s presence, Simon will once more look for perfection on the Iberian Peninsula!
Third in the table with a steady 40-point haul in Argentina was Thibault Benistant for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2, and the Frenchman just missed the podium here last year so he will be looking to get up there! He was denied in 2023 by eventual World Champion Andrea Adamo, who lies 5th in the standings for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
The revelation of Argentina was doubtlessly the pace of Mikkel Haarup for the brand new Monster Energy Triumph Racing team, as a fine 2nd in race two on Sunday put the new British machine onto the podium in its very first Grand Prix! Both the Dane and his 10th-placed teammate Camden McLellan have been training in Spain throughout the winter, so they will feel at home this weekend!
The Spanish brand that is Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing will look for more from its rookie sensation Marc-Antoine Rossi, who nearly won his first full Grand Prix race before a small crash, and a poor second moto left him 6th in the Championship. He too, likes the Spanish terrain! Local riders to look out for this weekend include the WZ Racing Team’s Oriol Oliver, and Fantic Factory Racing MX2 pilot David Braceras.
The series will also welcome back one of its stars from 2023, as Liam Everts hopes to have recovered enough from his injured thumb to join the fray for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
