AMA SUPERCROSS: CHASE SEXTON COGLIE LA PRIMA VITTORIA CON RED BULL KTM FACTORY RACING
SAN FRANCISCO, California – Nel Round 2 del campionato AMA Supercross 2024 Chase Sexton ha conquistato la sua prima vittoria per il team Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, restando in testa dallo start al traguardo in condizioni di gara incredibilmente fangose e issandosi così in vetta alla classifica di campionato 450SX. Il suo compagno di squadra Aaron Plessinger ha chiuso quinto, mentre in 250SX West il rookie Julien Beaumer è arrivato undicesimo.
A San Francisco sia Plessinger che Sexton hanno preso subito le misure a una pista in condizioni proibitive per la pioggia, spingendo le loro KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION al primo e secondo posto in qualifica, col miglior tempo appannaggio dello specialista del fango Plessinger.
Il campione in carica Sexton è scattato in terza posizione nella sua Heat Race, guidando senza apparente difficoltà alla caccia del leader di gara e chiudendo secondo a poche misure dalla vittoria.
Con un perfetto scatto dal cancelletto, Sexton ha fatto segnare l’holeshot e preso subito il comando delle operazioni nella finale 450SX. Con una prestazione da campione, mostrando tutta la sua determinazione e il suo talento Chase ha conquistato la sua ottava vittoria di una finale 450SX, la prima da quando è passato a Red Bull KTM Factory Racing nel 2024.
Chase Sexton: “Devo fare i miei complimenti al team, che ha profuso così tanto impegno e lavoro per mettermi in condizioni di essere dove sono. Ero dispiaciuto di correre nel fango, volevo mostrare i progressi pazzeschi che abbiamo fatto in questa settimana; ma sono ovviamente contento di aver vinto, per me e per il team!”
Lo slancio delle qualifiche è continuato per Plessinger nella sua Heat Race, dove il ragazzo dell’Ohio è riuscito ad assicurarsi il fondamentale holeshot. Una scivolata nelle battute finali lo ha costretto ad accontentarsi del terzo posto, che lo ha comunque mandato direttamente in finale.
Una calcolata strategia ha visto poi il numero 7 guidare con prudenza per non commettere errori, continuando a risalire durante la gara per chiudere con un meritato quinto posto a San Francisco.
Aaron Plessinger: “San Francisco, gara fangosa… anzi una corsa nel fango fatta e finita! Primo in qualifica, non era mai successo! Poi beh, partito bene nella Heat Race, ho pagato un paio di errori che ho commesso e ho fatto terzo. La partenza della finale è stata pessima, ho pattinato sulla griglia ma bene o male sono riuscito a passare attraverso tutti i ragazzi caduti nel primo rettilineo – non so nemmeno come ho fatto. A metà gara ho perso la maschera, e ho fatto quel che potevo chiudendo fortunatamente quinto. Abbiamo raccolto punti preziosi, ora sono quarto in campionato e a San Diego farò vedere quel che ho in serbo!”
Il rookie del Supercross Julien Beaumer ha faticato a mettere insieme un giro pulito in qualifica, riuscendo però a conquistare un bel sesto posto nella sua Heat Race e l’accesso diretto alla finale 250SX West. Su una pista sempre più deteriorata, Beaumer ha fatto il suo meglio concludendo con una solida undicesima piazza finale.
Julien Beaumer: “Beh San Francisco era fangoso, questo è sicuro! Una bella serata, ho fatto punti e sono arrivato senza troppi problemi in finale per cui va bene così. Stasera l’obiettivo era restare in piedi, alla fine ero esausto per aver dovuto risollevare la mia moto così tante volte. Ora guardo a San Diego, l’obiettivo là sarà lo stesso che avevamo ad Anaheim.”

CHASE SEXTON CHARGES TO FIRST WIN WITH RED BULL KTM FACTORY RACING IN SAN FRANCISCO
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Chase Sexton delivered his first win for the team at Round 2 of the 2024 AMA Supercross Championship, taking a dominant wire-to-wire victory in the muddy conditions and reclaiming the 450SX points lead. Teammate Aaron Plessinger took a P5 finish, while 250SX West rookie Julien Beaumer finished in 11th.
On a challenging, wet track surface, both Plessinger and Sexton came to grips with San Francisco conditions immediately, powering their KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION machines to the first and second qualifying positions, led by mud specialist Plessinger.
Defending champion Sexton charged to a top-three start in his Heat Race, continuing his level of comfort as he chased down the race leader, coming within bike lengths of getting the victory in second place.
And after firing out of the gates for the holeshot, Sexton took control of the 450SX Main Event to lead from the outset and delivered the performance of a champion, showcasing skill, and consistency as he captured his eighth-career 450SX Main Event race win, and his first since joining Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in 2024.
Chase Sexton: “I have to give a huge shoutout to the team, they’ve put in so much effort and hard work to get me to where I need to be. I was a bit disappointed that this round was a mudder as the progress we made from this week to last is pretty crazy, but I’m stoked to get a win for the team and it feels great to deliver this result!”
The qualifying momentum would continue for Plessinger as he lined up for the Heat Race, with the Ohio native launching out of the gates for the all-important holeshot. A late race mishap saw him claim a third-place finish to comfortably transfer into the Main Event.
A calculated outing then saw the number 7 post a measured ride to withstand the elements, making progress throughout the race and crossing the finish line for a well-earned fifth-place finish in San Francisco.
Aaron Plessinger: “San Francisco, mud race… a proper mud race. Qualified first, which is a first! Then yeah, good start in the Heat Race, made a few mistakes, which cost me, and I got third. The start of the Main was horrible, I spun off the grate, but made it through with all the guys on the ground – don’t know how I did that. Lost goggles about mid-way, and just did what I could to fortunately get back to fifth. We got some good points, sitting P4 now in the points, and I’m ready to show them what I’ve got in San Diego.”
Supercross rookie Beaumer struggled to piece together a clean lap in qualifying, before rebounding to secure a sixth-place finish in his Heat Race and a direct entry into the night’s 250SX West Main Event. On a deteriorating track, Beaumer made the most of track position in the tough conditions and would post a consistent P11 result by race’s end.
Julien Beaumer: “San Fran was muddy, that’s for sure! Good night, got some points and made it through the Main, so I’m happy to be leaving with some points. The focus was on staying upright, but I ended up getting tired from having to pick up my bike so many times. I’m looking forward to San Diego, with the goal being much the same as A1.”
