VITTORIA DELLA GARA DI QUALIFICA 450SX PER IL CAMPIONE DEL MONDO MX JORGE PRADO
Il secondo round del campionato AMA Supercross 2024 ha segnato una serata mista per il Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GASGAS Factory Racing Team, con il contendente della 450SX Justin Barcia che ha recuperato punti dopo aver lottato contro la malattia questa settimana, e Ryder DiFrancesco che ha vissuto gli alti e bassi di correre nella 250SX West Class.
Il secondo round ha segnato una notte impegnativa per Barcia di Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GASGAS Factory Racing, che ha compiuto uno sforzo da guerriero per sopportare le condizioni insidiose mentre gestiva una malattia. Si è qualificato per il Main Event tramite l’LCQ, dove avrebbe pilotato il suo GASGAS MC 450F Factory Edition fino al 17° posto.
Justin Barcia: “Giornata pazzesca qui a San Francisco, evento pazzesco. Ho avuto una grave malattia prima di partecipare a questa gara, quindi non ho potuto correre o allenarmi, sono dovuto andare in ospedale un paio di volte e sono davvero felice di essere qui. È stato davvero duro con il tempo e, sfortunatamente, il mio corpo era piuttosto martellato: ho reso la vita difficile con me stesso andando all’LCQ, ma tutto sommato è stato un fine settimana in modalità sopravvivenza per me. Sono felice di essere tutto intero e non vedo l’ora di essere in buona salute e di mettere la mia moto davanti”.
L’attuale campione del mondo MXGP Prado ha fatto la sua seconda partenza AMA Supercross a San Francisco con il 12° posto in qualifica, seguito rapidamente da un enorme Holeshot nella Heat Race e da una prestazione emozionante per assicurarsi la vittoria di apertura della 450SX Heat Race. Una corsa misurata durante il Main Event ha visto lo spagnolo ottenere un encomiabile settimo posto.
Jorge Prado: “Il secondo round è finito e sono molto contento di tutto. Mi sento come se mi fossi abituato al formato già dopo lo scorso fine settimana, il che è un grande adattamento per me, soprattutto imparando una nuova pista in otto o nove giri. Ma ehi, buon inizio nella Heat e alcuni buoni giri iniziali, sono rimasto coerente e ho ottenuto la mia prima vittoria in assoluto in una Heat Race! Ne ero molto felice perché non sono un grande specialista del fango, poi nel Main Event il cancello si è abbassato molto rapidamente e ho avuto una brutta partenza. Mi sono fatto strada lentamente attraverso il gruppo e volevo solo rimanere in moto, quello era il mio obiettivo, quindi con il settimo posto sono molto felice.
DiFrancesco ha aperto la sua giornata di gara a San Francisco registrando il 13° tempo più veloce nell’unica sessione di qualifica, prima di lanciarsi a bordo della sua GASGAS MC 250F Factory Edition nella seconda 250SX West Heat Race fino all’holeshot. Intenzionato a dare un’occhiata, DiFrancesco ha costruito un incredibile margine di 20 secondi tra lui e il pilota al secondo posto, suggellando la prima vittoria della Heat Race della sua carriera in modo impressionante.
Uno sfortunato inizio del Main Event per DiFrancesco lo ha seppellito in profondità, con il californiano che alla fine si è ritrovato con uno sfortunato DNF nel fango.
Ryder DiFrancesco: “È stata una bella notte qui finché non lo è stata più! Per tutto il giorno mi sono sentito bene nel fango, non so da dove venga, forse a Bakersfield quando è fangoso, ma succede una volta all’anno… È stato bello ottenere la mia prima vittoria in una Heat Race, che è una bella sensazione! Abbiamo un sacco di cose su cui lavorare, ma è un bene che potremo schierarci di nuovo il prossimo fine settimana.

Round 2 marked a challenging night for Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/GASGAS Factory Racing’s Barcia, who put in a warrior-like effort to endure the treacherous conditions while managing an illness. He qualified his way into the Main Event via the LCQ, where he would pilot his GASGAS MC 450F Factory Edition to 17th place.
Justin Barcia: “Crazy day here in San Francisco, crazy event. I got a serious sickness coming into this race, so I couldn’t ride or train, had to hit the hospital a couple of times, and I’m just really happy to be here. It was really tough with the weather, and unfortunately, my body was pretty hammered – made it hard on myself by going to the LCQ, but all-in-all it was a survival mode weekend for me. I’m happy to be in one piece and am looking forward to being healthy and putting my bike up front.”
DiFrancesco opened his San Francisco race day by posting the 13th-fastest time in the sole qualifying session, before rocketing out of the gates aboard his GASGAS MC 250F Factory Edition in the second 250SX West Heat Race to the holeshot. Intent on checking out, DiFrancesco built a staggering 20-second margin between him and the second-place rider, sealing the first Heat Race win of his career in impressive fashion.
An unfortunate start to the Main Event for DiFrancesco had him buried deep in the field, with the Californian ultimately ending up with an unfortunate DNF in the mud.
Ryder DiFrancesco: “It was a good night here until it wasn’t! All day I felt good in the mud, I don’t know where that comes from – maybe Bakersfield when it’s muddy, but that’s once a year… It was good to get my first Heat Race win, which is a cool feeling! We have a bunch of stuff to work on, but good thing we get to line up again next weekend.”
Current MXGP World Champion Prado made his second AMA Supercross start in San Francisco with 12th in qualifying, quickly followed up by a massive Heat Race holeshot and a thrilling performance to secure the opening 450SX Heat Race victory. A measured ride during the Main Event saw the Spaniard claim a commendable seventh-place result.
Jorge Prado: “Second round is done, and I am very happy about everything. I feel like I got used to the format already after last weekend, which is a big adjustment for me, especially learning a new track in eight or nine laps. But hey, good start in the Heat and some good opening laps, stayed consistent, and got my first-ever Heat Race win! I was super happy about that because I’m not a big mud specialist, then in the Main Event the gate dropped very quickly, and I got a bad start. I slowly made my way through the field and only wanted to stay on the bike, that was my goal, so with seventh place, I am very happy.”
