La vittoria nella seconda manche regala a Gajser il podio, mentre Zanchi carica forte in Patagonia-Argentina

Tim Gajser del Team HRC ha iniziato alla grande la sua stagione MXGP 2024, vincendo in Gara due, dopo essersi piazzato quinto in Gara uno, ottenendo il terzo posto assoluto. In combinazione con la vittoria nella gara di qualificazione, si trova a soli tre punti dalla tabella rossa ed è ben pronto per un’altra sfida per il titolo. Sfortunatamente, il compagno di squadra Ruben Fernandez non è stato in grado di schierarsi per le manche a causa degli infortuni alla parte inferiore della gamba sinistra riportati ieri nell’incidente della gara di qualificazione alla prima curva.
Dopo aver vinto la gara di qualificazione da 10 punti, Gajser non ha avuto la partenza migliore, ma mentre si stava facendo strada attraverso il campo, ha commesso un piccolo errore ed è sceso al 13° posto mentre tagliavano il traguardo per la prima volta. Sapendo che sarebbe stata una gara lunga, ha aumentato la velocità e ha effettuato numerosi sorpassi, risultando l’uomo più veloce in pista, arrivando infine al quinto posto, a solo un paio di decimi dal quarto.
L’anno scorso, Fernandez vinse questo GP dopo essere andato cinque-uno, quindi il numero 243 sapeva che avrebbe avuto la possibilità di conquistare la classifica generale se avesse vinto la seconda gara, e con un’ottima partenza ci è riuscito. Ha quasi afferrato l’holeshot, ma si è rapidamente portato in testa e non si è mai guardato indietro, guidando un ritmo veloce ma controllato che il resto del gruppo non poteva eguagliare. Tuttavia, a differenza del 2023, il cinque a uno di Gajser lo ha visto trovare il terzo gradino del podio, ma è stato comunque un buon inizio per il cinque volte campione del mondo.
La coppia Honda CRF450R ha ora un fine settimana libero per riprendersi dal viaggio di ritorno dalla Patagonia, prima di dirigersi ad Arroyomolinos, vicino a Madrid, in Spagna, per il secondo round della serie il 23-24 marzo. Gajser spera ancora una volta di salire sul podio, mentre la prima priorità di Fernandez sarà concentrarsi sul rimettersi in forma per il suo GP di casa.
MX2
Al suo debutto completo per il Team HRC, Ferruccio Zanchi ha messo a segno due corse davvero impressionanti per superare il gruppo e finire sette-otto per il sesto posto assoluto. La velocità e l’abilità che ha dimostrato nel sorpassare i piloti su questa pista argentina estremamente veloce dovrebbero dargli molta fiducia in vista del secondo round e se riuscirà a migliorare le sue partenze, dovrebbe davvero diventare una caratteristica permanente di questa entusiasmante classe MX2.
Entrambe le gare hanno seguito uno schema simile, dato che il numero 73 è partito fuori dalla top 10, prima di farsi strada per tutta la manche. Lottando con piloti con molta più esperienza, il diciassettenne è riuscito a mantenere la calma e a fare le mosse necessarie ed è rimasto molto soddisfatto di come è andato il suo primo round del campionato del mondo a bordo di una Honda CRF250R.
Tim Gajser 243
Sono molto contento della mia guida oggi e vincere due delle tre gare del fine settimana è un buon modo per iniziare la stagione. Probabilmente ho corso un po’ troppo nella prima gara e ho commesso quell’errore, ma è stato bello poter fare alcuni sorpassi e risalire fino al quinto posto. Poi in Gara due ho fatto una partenza molto migliore e sono riuscito a controllare la gara e questa è una bella sensazione su una pista piuttosto difficile. Ora c’è la Spagna alle porte e spero di vincere anche lì.
Ruben Fernandez 70
Sono davvero deluso di aver saltato questo round, ma è stata la decisione giusta perché non ero abbastanza in salute per guidare al livello che volevo. Probabilmente avrei potuto provarci, ma volevo essere intelligente e la stagione è lunga, quindi il piano è di essere pronto per la Spagna tra un paio di settimane, che per me è il GP di casa e non vedo l’ora di farlo.
Ferruccio Zanchi 73
È stato un buon inizio per me con il Team HRC e sono molto felice di partire con il sesto posto assoluto. Anche se le mie partenze non sono state delle migliori, ho fatto molti sorpassi durante il fine settimana, il che ha rafforzato la mia fiducia ed è stato bello essere costante nelle tre manche. Non vedo l’ora di andare in Spagna tra un paio di settimane, dove spero di continuare con questo tipo di guida.

Sia Tim che Ferruccio hanno disputato delle gare davvero forti oggi, ed è stato fantastico da vedere. Tim sembrava davvero veloce e ha mostrato la sua velocità quando ha controllato gara due, e anche in gara uno quando è riuscito a rimontare il gruppo. Senza quel piccolo errore sono sicuro che partirebbe da qui con la tabella rossa, ma è una stagione lunga e questo è stato comunque un ottimo round di apertura. Anche Ferruccio ha dimostrato di essere una grande prospettiva ottenendo il sesto posto assoluto dopo sette-otto manche. È riuscito a farsi notare in entrambe le gare, superando piloti molto più esperti e siamo davvero contenti di come sia andata. Ovviamente Ruben non è riuscito a schierarsi e torneremo in Europa per controllarlo di nuovo, quindi faremo piani in base a quali saranno questi risultati.

Second moto victory gives Gajser podium, as Zanchi charges hard in Patagonia-Argentina
MXGP
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser got his 2024 MXGP campaign off to a strong start, taking the win in moto two, after placing fifth in race one to give him third overall. Combined with the qualification race victory, he sits just three points off the red-plate and well poised for another title challenge. Unfortunately, teammate Ruben Fernandez wasn’t able to line-up for the motos due to the lower left-leg injuries he sustained in the first turn qualification race incident yesterday.
Having first gate-pick after winning the 10-point qualifying race, Gajser didn’t get the best start, but as he was forcing his way through the field, he made a small mistake and dropped down to 13th as they crossed the line for the first time. Knowing that it was a long race, he built his speed up and made plenty of passes, as the fastest man on the track, eventually coming home in fifth place, just a couple of tenths behind fourth.
Last year, Fernandez won this GP after going five-one so the #243 knew he had a chance to take the overall if he won the second race, and with a great start he was able to just that. He almost grabbed the holeshot, but swiftly moved into the lead and never looked back, riding a fast but controlled pace that the rest of the field couldn’t match. However, unlike in 2023, Gajser’s five-one saw him find the third step of the podium, but it was still a strong start for the five-time world champion.
The Honda CRF450R pair now have a weekend off to recover from their travel back from Patagonia, before they head to Arroyomolinos, near Madrid in Spain for the second round of the series on March 23-24. Gajser will once again be hoping to making it up onto the podium, while Fernandez’s first priority will be concentrating on getting healthy for his home GP.
MX2
In his full-debut for Team HRC, Ferruccio Zanchi put in two really impressive rides to come through the pack and finish seven-eight for sixth overall. The speed and skill that he showed to pass riders on this extremely fast Argentina track should give him a lot of confidence heading into round two and if he can improve his starts, he really should become a permanent feature of this exciting MX2 class.
Both races followed a similar pattern as the #73 started way outside the top 10, before working his way forward throughout the moto. Battling with riders with much more experience, the 17-year-old was able to maintain his composure and make the necessary moves and he was delighted with how his first world championship round on-board a Honda CRF250R went.

I am very happy with my riding today and to win two of the three races over the weekend is a good way to start the season. I probably rushed a bit too much in the first race and made that mistake but it was good to be able to make some passes and get back up to fifth. Then in race two, I got a much better start and was able to control the race and that is a nice feeling on what is quite a difficult track. Now we have Spain coming up and I hope to go for the win there as well.

I’m really disappointed to miss this round, but it was the right decision as I wasn’t really healthy enough to ride at the level I want to. I could have probably tried but I wanted to be smart and the season is long so the plan is to be ready for Spain in a couple of weeks, which is a home GP for me and one I always look forward to.
Ferruccio Zanchi 73
It was a good start for me with Team HRC, and I’m very happy to be leaving with sixth overall. Even though my starts weren’t the best, I made a lot of passes throughout the weekend which really builds my confidence and it was good to be consistent across the three motos. I am already looking forward to Spain in a couple of weeks, where hopefully I will continue with this kind of riding.

Both Tim and Ferruccio put in some really strong races today, and that was great to see. Tim looked really fast and showed his speed when he controlled race two, and even in race one when he came through the field. Without that small mistake I’m sure he’d be leaving here with the red-plate but it is a long season and this was still a very good opening round. Ferruccio also showed what a great prospect he is by getting sixth overall after seven-eight moto finishes. He came through the field in both races, overtaking some much more experienced riders and we are just delighted with how it went. Of course, Ruben wasn’t able to line-up and we will get back to Europe and check him again, and then make plans based on what those results are.
