Romain Febvre inizia la sua stagione con una vittoria
Il leader del Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP Romain Febvre ha aperto la sua stagione 2023 con un’impressionante vittoria in moto e due terzi posti nel prestigioso motocross internazionale di Hawkstone Park.
Una tipica fresca giornata di inizio primavera sotto un cielo terso ha salutato i team, i piloti e gli spettatori per la prima grande gara di shakedown della stagione sulla famosa pista di sabbia nell’Inghilterra centrale tre settimane prima del GP di apertura e l’asso francese della Kawasaki ha subito lasciato il segno con l’holeshot la manche di apertura, che ha condotto in modo impressionante dall’inizio alla fine; L’esperto di sabbia olandese Glenn Coldenhoff ci è andato vicino in una fase prima che il pilota Kawasaki si allontanasse di nuovo durante le fasi finali della gara di venticinque minuti più un giro. Romain è rimasto intrappolato nel traffico alla prima curva in ciascuna delle manche successive dopo essere andato in testacoda al cancello, ma ha evitato con cura ogni pericolo di collisione mentre si faceva strada attraverso il gruppo per tagliare il traguardo terzo ogni volta; in modo significativo ha registrato il giro più veloce nell’ultima gara della giornata mentre inseguiva fino a sfidare anche per il comando prima di indietreggiare di nuovo sensibilmente alla fine poiché la mancanza di guida nelle ultime settimane a seguito di una recente operazione precauzionale per alleviare le braccia dure è diventata evidente.
Romain Febvre: “Sono arrivato qui senza aspettative reali perché sono stato tre settimane senza guidare la moto dopo l’operazione al braccio e non mi aspettavo di guidare così bene, né in termini di velocità né fisicamente. Di sicuro vincendo la mia prima gara per la stagione è una spinta, e mi ha fatto bene anche mentalmente! Nella seconda gara sono partito in gruppo dopo essere scivolato sulla griglia metallica e sono risalito terzo, poi in Superfinale diversi di noi hanno fatto lo stesso ancora, all’inizio ero quarto ma sono arrivato secondo e ad un certo punto ero quasi al fianco di Coldenhoff per la testa ma non sono riuscito a prendere il vantaggio e proprio alla fine della gara Van Doninck è scivolato e l’ho superato. Sentivo la mancanza di guida e negli ultimi cinque giri mi sono un po’ stancato, cosa prevedibile dopo tre settimane senza moto. È la prima volta che vengo a Hawkstone Park; è una bellissima pista naturale con curve di tanti tipi diversi e la grande salita dove puoi usare la potenza del motore; è un circuito bellissimo, soprattutto quando il tempo è bello come oggi”.
Antti Pyrhönen (team manager KRT MXGP): “Negli anni passati Romain ha avuto problemi alle braccia all’inizio della stagione, quindi ha deciso di sottoporsi a un intervento chirurgico precauzionale il mese scorso e ha ricominciato a guidare solo lo scorso fine settimana, ma ha subito fatto un holeshot nella prima manche e ha guidato l’intera gara; Coldenhoff ci è andato vicino in una fase, ma Romain è riuscito a staccarsi di nuovo alla fine. È stato coinvolto nel traffico alla prima curva nelle altre gare dopo essere andato in testacoda al cancello, ma ogni volta è arrivato terzo. È stato un inizio davvero soddisfacente per la nuova stagione.”

Romain Febvre starts his season with a win
Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP leader Romain Febvre opened his 2023 campaign with an impressive moto victory and two third places in the prestige international motocross at Hawkstone Park.
A typically fresh early springtime day under bright skies greeted the teams, riders and spectators for the first major shakedown race of the season at the famous sand track in central England three weeks before the opening GP and Kawasaki’s French ace immediately made his mark as he holeshot the opening moto, leading impressively from start-to-finish; Dutch sand expert Glenn Coldenhoff came close at one stage before the Kawasaki rider moved away again during the closing stages of the twenty-five-minute-plus-one-lap race. Romain got caught up in traffic at the first turn in each of the later motos after spinning at the gate but carefully avoided any danger of collisions as he carved his way through the pack to cross the finish line third each time; significantly he recorded the fastest lap in the final race of the day as he chased through to even challenge for the lead before he sensibly backed off again at the close as the lack of riding in recent weeks following a recent precautionary operation to relieve arm pump became evident.
Romain Febvre: “I came here with no real expectations as I was three weeks without riding the bike after my arm surgery and I didn’t expect to ride so well, either in terms of speed or physically. For sure winning my first race of the season is a boost, and it was good for me mentally too! In the second race I started in the pack after slipping on the metal grid and I came back to third, then in the Superfinal several of us did the same again at the start. I was fourth at first but came through to second and at one point I was almost side-by-side with Coldenhoff for the lead but I couldn’t manage to take the advantage and right at the end of the race Van Doninck slipped past me. I was feeling the lack of riding and in the last five laps I got a little tired, which was to be expected after three weeks off the bike. It’s the first time I have been to Hawkstone Park; it’s a beautiful natural track with turns of so many different types and the big uphill where you can use the power of the motorcycle; it’s a beautiful circuit, especially when the weather is nice like today.”
Antti Pyrhönen (KRT MXGP team manager): “Romain has had arm pump at the start of the season in past years so he decided to undergo precautionary surgery last month and only started riding again last weekend, but he immediately holeshot the first moto and led the entire race; Coldenhoff came close at one stage but Romain could pull away again at the end. He was caught up in traffic at the first turn in the other races after spinning at the gate but came through to third each time. It was a truly satisfying start to the new season.”
