Maxime Renaux incoronato campione del mondo MX2 dopo lo splendido Gran Premio di Garda Victory.
Maxime Renaux di Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 è stato incoronato Campione del Mondo 2021 MX2 al 16° round del Campionato Mondiale FIM Motocross a Pietramurata, in Italia, dopo aver celebrato una fenomenale vittoria del Grand Prix con un’emozionante vittoria in gara, la sua ottava della stagione.
Un incredibile 12 podi in 16 round, otto vittorie in gare, cinque vittorie in Gran Premi e 20 primi tre piazzamenti sono alcuni dei momenti salienti della campagna per il titolo 2021 di Renaux. Il 21enne francese si è assicurato il titolo mondiale MX2 2021 battendo i suoi unici rivali rimasti in campionato, Tom Vialle e il compagno di squadra Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Jago Geerts, in entrambe le gare al MXGP di Garda oggi. Il suo successo nel titolo mondiale arriva per la prima volta per Yamaha in MX2 da Antonio Cairoli nel 2007.
Renaux è partito tra i primi cinque nella gara di apertura e ha guidato la sua YZ250FM oltre il campione del mondo in carica Vialle per portarsi in quarta posizione al primo giro. Poche curve dopo, la giovane arma ha ereditato la seconda posizione dai due piloti davanti a lui, Geerts e Bastien Boegh-Damm, che si sono scontrati e si sono schiantati in modo spettacolare. Dimostrando un’incredibile maturità in gara, il sensazionale francese ha mantenuto i suoi tempi sul giro veloci e costanti mentre correva verso un sensazionale secondo posto.
Entrando nell’ultima gara del fine settimana, Renaux aveva un comodo vantaggio di 101 punti su Geerts nella classifica del campionato MX2. Tutto quello che doveva fare era battere il suo compagno di squadra e finire a sei punti da Vialle per prendere la corona. Quando i cancelli alla fine sono caduti, la tensione che si era accumulata prima della gara è stata sicuramente avvertita quando il leader del campionato ha sfidato Vialle per il primo posto. Dopo aver dimostrato di essere il pilota più veloce in pista stabilendo il giro più veloce della gara, il “959” ha superato con successo al quinto giro e si è precipitato verso un’enfatica vittoria della gara.
Allo stesso tempo, un drammatico Gran Premio ha visto Geerts cadere in modo spettacolare dalla terza posizione al primo giro di gara uno quando un altro pilota è saltato attraverso la pista e lo ha colpito a mezz’aria. Da lì, il ’93’ è rimontato sulla sua YZ250FM e ha lanciato una valorosa carica attraverso il gruppo dall’ultima posizione alla tredicesima, mentre il terzo del trio Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Thibault Benistant ha reagito da un decimo posto dall’inizio al sesto posto.
Nella gara finale, Geerts ha avuto un problema tecnico insolito e ha dovuto ritirarsi, mentre Benistant ha lottato per il settimo posto.
Dopo una fantastica dimostrazione di velocità e abilità al MXGP di Garda, il neo-campione del mondo MX2, Renaux, ha celebrato una campagna di titoli 2021 di successo nel miglior modo possibile, dal gradino più alto del podio.
Con due round rimanenti nel Campionato del Mondo FIM Motocross, Renaux è imprendibile al vertice.
Benistant ha mancato la top-five per soli 3 punti. Era sesto nella classifica generale ed è attualmente settimo nella classifica del campionato MX2. Allo stesso tempo, Geerts ha concluso 17° assoluto e si dirigerà verso gli ultimi due round della serie MXGP, terzo in classifica, a 16 lunghezze da Vialle.
Il team Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 si dirige ora a 128 chilometri a sud di Pietramurata, in Italia, a Mantova, dove disputerà gli ultimi due round del Campionato Mondiale FIM Motocross domenica 7 e mercoledì 10 novembre.

Maxime Renaux Crowned MX2 World Champion after Stunning Grand Prix of Garda Victory
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2’s Maxime Renaux has been crowned 2021 MX2 World Champion at the 16th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Pietramurata, Italy, after celebrating a phenomenal Grand Prix win with a thrilling race victory – his eighth of the season.
An incredible 12 podiums from 16 rounds, eight race wins, five Grand Prix wins and 20 top-three finishes are some of the highlights from Renaux’s 2021 title campaign. The 21-year-old Frenchman secured the 2021 MX2 world title by beating his only remaining championship rivals, Tom Vialle and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 teammate Jago Geerts, in both races at the MXGP of Garda today. His world title success comes as a first for Yamaha in MX2 since Antonio Cairoli in 2007.
Renaux got off to a top-five start in the opening race and powered his YZ250FM past the defending World Champion Vialle to move into fourth position on lap one. A few turns later, the young gun inherited second from the two riders in front of him, Geerts and Bastien Boegh-Damm, as they collided and crashed spectacularly. Demonstrating incredible race maturity, the French sensation kept his lap-times fast and consistent as he raced to a sensational second-place finish.
Going into the final race of the weekend, Renaux had a comfortable 101-point lead over Geerts in the MX2 Championship Standings. All he had to do was beat his teammate and finish within six points of Vialle to take the crown. When the gates eventually fell, the tension that had built up prior to the race was certainly felt as the championship leader challenged Vialle for the top spot. After proving he was the fastest rider on track by setting the quickest lap of the race, the ‘959’ successfully made a pass on lap five and stormed to an emphatic race victory.
At the same time, a dramatic Grand Prix saw Geerts crash spectacularly out of third position on the first lap of race one when another rider jumped across the track and struck him mid-air. From there, the ‘93’ remounted his YZ250FM and put in a valiant charge through the pack from last position back to 13th, as the third of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 trio Thibault Benistant fought back from a 10th place start to finish sixth.
In the final race, Geerts experienced an unusual technical issue and had to withdraw, as Benistant battled for seventh.
After a fantastic display of speed and skill at the MXGP of Garda, the newly crowned MX2 World Champion, Renaux, celebrated a successful 2021 title campaign in the best way possible, from the top step of the podium.
With two rounds remaining in the FIM Motocross World Championship, Renaux is uncatchable at the top.
Benistant missed the top-five by a mere 3-points. He was sixth in the overall classification and is currently seventh in the MX2 Championship Standings. At the same time, Geerts finished 17th overall and will head into the final two rounds of the MXGP series, third in the points, 16 shy of Vialle.
The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team now heads 128 kilometers south of Pietramurata, Italy, to Mantova where they will contest the final two rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship on Sunday 7th and Wednesday 10th November.
