Un altro podio per Gajser che continua la sua ottima stagione in Sardegna
Tim Gajser del Team HRC ha dato spettacolo sulla sabbia profonda di Riola Sardo, in Sardegna, ottenendo ancora una volta una doppietta per il suo terzo podio consecutivo mentre consolida il suo secondo posto nel campionato MXGP 2024. Il compagno di squadra esordiente Roan van de Moosdijk ha fatto dei buoni giri all’inizio di entrambe le manche, ma alla fine ha deciso che era più saggio lasciare piuttosto che rischiare un infortunio in quelle che erano le condizioni brutali del circuito dell’isola.
Mostrando una buona velocità per tutto il giorno sulla sua Honda CRF450R, Gajser è stato effettivamente il più veloce nel warm-up di domenica, dandogli un po’ di fiducia mentre si dirigeva alle manche più tardi nel corso della giornata. E quando il cancello si è abbassato, è salito rapidamente al secondo posto dopo un’altra buona partenza e ben posizionato per lottare per il comando. Sfortunatamente, non è mai riuscito a fare la mossa necessaria che gli avrebbe permesso di ottenere un’altra vittoria in moto, e si è dovuto invece accontentare del secondo posto.
La Gara due non è iniziata altrettanto bene, dato che era appena fuori dai primi cinque alla prima curva, ma come ha fatto finora nel 2024, è rapidamente riuscito a raggiungere il terzo posto e ha iniziato a provare a colmare il divario. sui primi due. Alla fine è riuscito a scendere a meno di cinque secondi e, mentre lo faceva, il pilota secondo è caduto e lui è tornato nella sua posizione con metà della manche da percorrere. Dopo aver firmato con il team questo fine settimana, il v/d Moosdijk avrebbe sempre dovuto affrontare una dura battaglia al suo debutto nella classe MXGP, arrivando con poco tempo a disposizione e senza una buona e solida preparazione fuori stagione al suo attivo. E quando le temperature hanno iniziato a salire, il suo compito si è reso ancora più difficile, su una pista che ha messo in difficoltà anche i migliori piloti del mondo. In entrambe le gare è stato appena fuori dalla top 10 prima di ritirarsi dalla pista per precauzione per evitare di commettere un errore che avrebbe potuto ostacolare il suo ulteriore sviluppo. Sa che la velocità c’è e ora inizia il lavoro per assicurarsi di poterla correre per una manche completa.
Questo compito dovrebbe essere molto più semplice sulla pista di Pietramurata il prossimo fine settimana, che sicuramente non è così impegnativa dal punto di vista fisico, e gli offre un’opportunità molto migliore per aprire il suo conto punti in questa classe. È anche una pista che Gajser chiama il suo “GP di casa” e lo sloveno non vedrà l’ora di vincere l’MXGP del Trentino.

Devo essere contento del secondo posto sulla sabbia. Non ho ottenuto buoni risultati qui in passato, ma finire secondo su quella che è probabilmente la pista più difficile del calendario è qualcosa con cui dovrei essere d’accordo. Ovviamente voglio sempre vincere e sentivo che probabilmente ce n’era di più nel serbatoio, ma non potevo spingere come volevo. Tuttavia, sono costantemente sul podio ed è una lunga stagione e so che sto guidando bene e presto otterrò delle vittorie.

Fine settimana difficile e non esattamente come speravo andasse il mio debutto. Le condizioni erano estremamente difficili e ho pensato che fosse meglio lottare un altro giorno, piuttosto che spingere oltre il limite e mettermi in pericolo. Ovviamente non sono felice di doverlo fare, soprattutto perché la mia velocità era buona all’inizio delle gare, ma ora avrò un altro paio di sessioni sulla moto per sentirmi più a mio agio e in forma e mi aspetto di fare molto meglio la prossima settimana in Trentino.

Questo è stato un GP difficile per tutti, arrivare a queste temperature calde quando faceva così freddo nel resto d’Europa e, insieme alla brutale pista di Riola Sardo, ha significato che è stato un vero test per questi ragazzi. Ovviamente Tim ha dimostrato ancora una volta di essere all’altezza della situazione, ottenendo un altro paio di secondi posti, mentre continua questo ottimo periodo di forma. Siamo sicuri che non passerà molto tempo prima che salga sul gradino più alto del podio.
Sfortunatamente per Roan, queste sono state probabilmente le condizioni più difficili in cui debuttare e non è riuscito a finire nessuna delle due manche. Sapevamo che sarebbe stato difficile e non c’erano aspettative, quindi valuteremo tutto e cercheremo di assicurarci che il Trentino vada meglio per lui, cosa che siamo sicuri sarà così.

Another podium for Gajser as he continues his strong season in Sardinia
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser put in strong show in the deep sand of Riola Sardo, Sardinia, going two-two once again for his third podium in a row as he cements his second place in the 2024 MXGP Championship. Debutant teammate Roan van de Moosdijk put in some good laps at the beginning of both motos, but in the end decided it was wiser to pull-off than risk injury in what were some brutal conditions at the island circuit.
Showing good speed all day on his Honda CRF450R, Gajser was actually fastest in the early Sunday warm-up, giving him some confidence as he headed into the motos later on in the day. And when the gate did drop, he was quickly up into second place after another good start and well-placed to challenge for the lead. Unfortunately, he was never quite able to make the necessary move that would have seen him take another moto victory, and he instead had to settle for second.
Moto two didn’t start quite as well, as he was just outside the top five around the first bend, but as he has done so far in 2024, he quickly made his way into third place and set about trying to close the gap up to the top two. Eventually he got it down to under five seconds, and as he did that, the rider in second crashed and he swept into his position with half the moto to go. Just like the first moto, he wasn’t quite able to get close enough to leader for a pass and kept up his run of podium finishes.
After signing with the team this weekend, v/d Moosdijk was always going to be facing an uphill battle in his MXGP-class debut, coming with little bike-time and without a good, solid off-season of preparation under his belt. And when the temperature gauges started rising, his job was made even more difficult on a track that has made even the best riders in the world struggle. As it was, he was just outside the top 10 in both races before removing himself from the race-track as a precaution to avoid making a mistake that could hinder his further development. He knows the speed is there, and now the work begins to make sure he can run that for a full moto.
This task should be a lot easier at the Pietramurata track next weekend, which definitely isn’t as physically demanding, and offers a much better opportunity for him to open his points account in this class. It’s also a track that Gajser calls his ‘home GP’ and the Slovenian will be very much looking forward to going for the win at the MXGP of Trentino.

I’ve got to be happy with second in the sand. I haven’t had good results here in the past but to finish second on what is probably the hardest track in the calendar is something I should be okay with. Of course I always want to be winning, and I felt there was probably more in the tank but I just couldn’t push as I wanted. Still, I am consistently on the podium and it is a long season and I know I am riding well and will be getting some victories soon.

Tough weekend, and not exactly how I hoped my debut would go. The conditions were extremely difficult and I felt it was better to fight another day, than to push over the limit and put myself in danger. Of course I’m not happy to have to do it, especially as my speed was good at the beginning of the races but I will now have another couple of sessions on the bike to get more comfortable and fitter and I expect to do a lot better next week in Trentino.

This was a hard GP for everyone, coming into these hot temperatures when it’s been so cold in the rest of Europe and coupled with the brutal Riola Sardo track meant that it was a real test for these guys. Obviously Tim showed once again that he can rise to the occasion, putting in another pair of second place finishes, as he continues this strong run of form. We are sure it won’t be long before he’s on the top step of the podium.
Unfortunately for Roan, these were probably the toughest conditions to make a debut in, and he wasn’t able to finish either moto. We knew it would be difficult and there weren’t any expectations coming in, so we will assess everything and try to make sure that Trentino goes better for him, which we are sure it will.
