Zanchi e Gajser siglano l’impressionante doppietta del Team HRC
L’HRC ha mostrato la sua forza quando Tim Gajser ha vinto la classe MX1 agli Internazionali d’Italia a Riola Sardo, in Sardegna, con una prestazione uno-uno dominante, e poi in quello che è stato il suo debutto per la squadra, Ferruccio Zanchi ha corso in modo estremamente impressionante per vincere la MX2 dopo aver ottenuto la vittoria nella seconda manche. Ruben Fernandez è arrivato sesto assoluto nella MX1 dopo un paio di quinti posti.
Classe MX1
Sia Gajser che Fernandez sono partiti bene in gara uno, con Gajser che faceva pressione sul leader e Fernandez non troppo lontano da lui. Al secondo giro il numero 243 ha fatto la sua mossa e ha preso la prima posizione con la speranza di staccarsi. Tuttavia, in quella che è la sua prima gara dell’anno, Gajser ha avuto un po’ di indurimento alle braccia e invece ha dovuto tenere a bada un Romain Febvre in carica per l’intera manche prima di tagliare la bandiera a scacchi.
In gara due, ancora una volta Gajser era in una buona posizione nelle prime fasi, e ancora una volta è passato rapidamente al comando in pochi giri. Ma questa volta, il pilota della Honda CRF450R è riuscito a staccarsi dal gruppo degli inseguitori e ad aggiudicarsi la vittoria con un distacco di quasi 30 secondi.
Parte di quel gruppo in entrambe le gare era Fernandez, che è stato coinvolto in battaglie praticamente per tutte e due le gare mentre cercava di sorpassare o tenere a bada i piloti intorno a lui. Alla fine si è dovuto accontentare di un paio di quinti posti, che è comunque un buon risultato su una pista che non è sempre stata gentile con lui in passato.
Classe MX2
Nella prima gara della MX2, dopo essersi qualificato quarto, Zanchi era 29° al primo giro dopo aver avuto problemi dopo le prime curve. Tuttavia, ciò non ha impedito al giovane di abbassare la testa e farsi strada velocemente attraverso il campo. Nonostante il traffico, il pilota del Team HRC è stato il più veloce in pista per numerosi giri e, dopo aver realizzato il suo miglior giro verso la fine della gara, è riuscito a passare al quarto posto. È stata una grande rimonta e gli ha comunque dato la possibilità di ottenere un risultato solido se fosse riuscito a fare lo stesso di nuovo in gara due.
Questa volta, il primo giro è andato molto meglio e il #73 è passato rapidamente al terzo posto. Da lì, ha inseguito i due piloti davanti, conquistando infine il secondo posto prima di puntare sul leader. Sapendo che la vittoria in gara gli avrebbe dato anche la classifica generale, ha continuato a caricare e a pochi giri dalla fine ha fatto la sua mossa ed è passato in testa. È stato un grande momento per il diciassettenne al suo debutto con il Team HRC non solo conquistare la vittoria in manche, ma anche il modo perfetto per iniziare questo rinnovato programma CRF250R.

La prima gara è stata una vera battaglia con Romain, soprattutto perché ho avuto problemi alle braccia, ma sono riuscito a resistere fino alla vittoria. Gara due è stata molto più semplice dopo aver superato Glenn per il comando, e sono riuscito a fare dei bei giri costanti e ad allontanarmi per la vittoria. È sempre bello ottenere la classifica generale ed è stato fantastico vedere anche Ferruccio vincere. Un buon inizio, ma ovviamente so che davanti a noi c’è il campionato MXGP, quindi l’obiettivo è prepararci.
Ruben Fernandez 70
Correre qui è sempre una giornata dura, ma è bello venire qui e fare un paio di drop-down e ritrovare quella sensazione di gara. Ho avuto delle belle battaglie e penso di essere migliorato in queste condizioni, quindi questa è la cosa principale e qualcosa da cui posso costruire, per quando inizierà la vera stagione a marzo. Anche Mantova il prossimo fine settimana dovrebbe essere un altro buon test e spero di poter lottare un po’ più vicino ai primi. Un grandissimo complimento a Ferro per aver vinto questa gara! Ha guidato incredibilmente bene per ottenere quella vittoria e so che ha lavorato duramente in bassa stagione e sono entusiasta di vedere cosa potrà fare nella classe MX2 nei GP.
Ferruccio Zanchi 73
È incredibile vincere qui oggi. Non è stato facile cadere al primo giro in gara uno e riprendere in ultima posizione, ma ho continuato a spingere e spingere ed ero davvero felice di arrivare quarto. Sapevo di avere una buona velocità e una volta che mi sono trovato in quella posizione in Gara due, con la necessità di vincere la classifica generale, ho fatto del mio meglio e ce l’ho fatta! Un grande ringraziamento a tutto il Team HRC per tutto il lavoro e tutto il supporto. Questa è una grande prima gara, ma ce ne sono altre in arrivo!

Una grande giornata per tutto il Team HRC. È stato bello vedere la vittoria di Tim e dimostra che quest’anno arriverà davvero preparato e pronto per iniziare la stagione alla grande. E poi per Ferruccio vincere la sua prima assoluta al primo tentativo è stato fantastico. Quando è arrivato al primo giro in 29esima posizione, speravamo solo che potesse guidare bene e non eravamo troppo concentrati sul risultato, ma è riuscito a risalire fino al quarto posto! Poi in Gara due, sapendo che una vittoria gli avrebbe dato la classifica generale, ha guidato così bene e si è mantenuto costante e gli altri ragazzi non sono riusciti a eguagliarlo. Il modo perfetto per iniziare il 2024.

Zanchi and Gajser secure impressive Team HRC double-win
HRC showed its strength as Tim Gajser won the MX1 class at the Internazionali d’Italia in Riola Sardo, Sardinia with a dominating one-one performance, and then in what was his debut for the team, Ferruccio Zanchi rode extremely impressively to win the MX2 class after taking the second moto victory. Ruben Fernandez ended up sixth overall in MX1 after a pair of fifth places finishes.
MX1 Class
Both Gajser and Fernandez got off to good starts in race one with Gajser pressuring the leader and Fernandez not too far behind him. On lap two #243 made his move and took over first position with the hope of pulling away. However, in what is his first race of the year, Gajser got some arm-pump and instead had to hold off a charging Romain Febvre for the entire moto before taking the chequered flag.
In race two, once again Gajser was in a good position early on, and once again he quickly passed for the lead within a few laps. But this time, the Honda CRF450R rider was able to pull well clear of the chasing pack and took the victory by almost 30 seconds.
Part of that pack in both races was Fernandez, who was involved in battles for practically the whole of both races as he was either looking to pass or hold off riders around him. In the end he had to settle for a pair of fifth place finishes, which is still a good result at a track that hasn’t always been kind to him in the past.
MX2 Class
In the first MX2 race, having qualifyed fourth, Zanchi was down in 29th as they rounded the first lap after having trouble after the opening few corners. Still, that didn’t deter the youngster from putting his head down and working his way through the field at speed. Despite being in traffic, the Team HRC rider was the fastest guy on track for numerous laps and after putting in his best lap near the end of the race, he was able to make the move into fourth place. It was a great recovery and it still gave him a shot at a solid result if he could do the same again in race two.
This time, the first lap went much better and the #73 was quickly into third place. From there, he stalked the two riders in front, eventually picking off second place before setting his sights on the leader. Knowing that victory in the race would also give him the overall, he kept charging and with a few laps to go, he made his move and swept into the lead. It was a great moment for the 17-year-old on his debut with Team HRC to not only take the moto win, but also the overall and the perfect way to start this renewed CRF250R programme.

The first race was a real battle with Romain, especially as I got arm pump, but I was able to hold on for the win. Race two was a lot easier after I passed Glenn for the lead, and I was able to run some nice consistent laps and pull away for the win. It is always nice to get the overall and it was awesome to see Ferruccio take the win as well. A good start but of course I know there is the MXGP championship ahead of us, so the aim is to prepare for that.

Riding here is always a tough day, but it is good to come here and get a couple of gate-drops and just to get that race feeling back. I had some good battles and I think I’ve improved in these conditions so that is the main thing and something I can build from, for when the real season begins in March. Mantova next weekend should also be another good test and hopefully I’ll be able to challenge a bit nearer the front. A huge congratulations to Ferro for winning this race! He rode amazingly well to take that win and I know he’s been working hard in the off-season and I’m excited to see what he can do in the MX2 class in the GPs.
Ferruccio Zanchi 73
It is amazing to get the win here today. It wasn’t easy, crashing on that first lap in race one and picking up in last place, but I just kept pushing and pushing and was really happy to get up to fourth. I knew I had good speed and once I found myself in that position in race two, needing to win for the overall, I tried my hardest and made it happen! A big thank you to the whole of Team HRC for all the work and all the support. This is a great first race, but there is more to come!

A great day for everyone in Team HRC. Tim winning was great to see and shows he’s coming into this year really prepared and ready to start off the season strongly. And then for Ferruccio to win his first overall in his first attempt was amazing. When he came around the first lap in 29th position, we were just hoping he could ride well and weren’t focused on the result too much but he made it all the way up to fourth! Then in race two, knowing that a win would give him the overall, he rode so well and just kept it consistent and the other guys couldn’t match him. The perfect way to start 2024 off.
