Febvre pronto per l’Argentina
Dopo due solide gare pre-stagionali, Romain Febvre e il Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP sono pronti per il round di apertura del FIM MXGP World Motocross Championship in Argentina questo fine settimana.
È stato un inverno impegnativo per il francese che subito dopo l’ultimo GP del 2022 è stato operato per rimuovere uno placca alla gamba.
“Il chirurgo ha colto l’occasione anche per pulire il ginocchio, quindi ho dovuto aspettare fino alla fine di novembre per tornare ad allenarmi fisicamente e successivamente in bici. Per la prima volta dopo tanto tempo posso correre e fare allenamento fisico senza dolore, ed è stato fantastico avere un inverno forte per preparare la stagione “.
Ha spiegato Romain, che ha anche deciso di sottoporsi a un ulteriore piccolo intervento chirurgico agli avambracci a gennaio.
“Due anni fa ho avvertito dolore alle braccia e sono stato operato, poi l’anno scorso, quando sono tornato dopo sei mesi, il dolore è tornato. È abbastanza normale dopo che non guidi per molto tempo, ma dopo un intenso allenamento e test questo inverno ho sentito di nuovo il dolore, quindi non ho voluto correre rischi e sono stato operato a gennaio. Ho dovuto smettere di guidare per alcune settimane, motivo per cui non ho corso la serie internazionale italiana “.
Per la nona volta nella sua carriera, Romain si schiererà nella classe MXGP dove ha vinto il titolo mondiale nel 2015. Ha mancato di poco un secondo titolo nel 2021, il suo secondo anno con Kawasaki, quando la serie è andata alla manche finale del stagione, e ovviamente quest’anno il suo obiettivo principale è quello di conquistare nuovamente l’oro.
“È impossibile spiegare che bella sensazione sia quando sei campione del mondo. Già da bambino sognavo di ottenere un titolo almeno una volta; inizialmente era un sogno, ma quando finalmente l’ho ottenuto volevo di più. Quando pratichi uno sport, qualunque esso sia, vuoi essere il migliore ma non è facile. Poi, quando lo perdi solo per un paio di punti come nel 2021, guardi indietro alla stagione e vedi dove avresti potuto ottenere quei pochi punti in più. E questo non è facile da accettare”, ha detto in analisi.
Con tutta la sua esperienza sa quanto sia importante l’approccio mentale. “Il lato mentale è una parte importante del puzzle! Anche se lavori sodo e sei pronto per la sfida, sai prima dell’inizio di ogni gara che è una faccenda dura. Essere forti mentalmente può aiutarti a gestire la pressione, ed è qualcosa che devi avere in te. O ce l’hai o no; non puoi inventarlo”.
Le gare pre-campionato sono state abbastanza buone per Romain, che ha ottenuto diversi podi, ma ora è il momento di schierarsi per i primi GP contro un avversario ancora più forte. “Adesso sono quasi al 100% e la stagione sarà davvero lunga. Adoro quella pista in Argentina e l’obiettivo sarà quello di segnare più punti possibili ad ogni round. So che nel 2021 a volte mi mancava un po’ di velocità rispetto a Herlings, ed è un punto su cui abbiamo lavorato con Kevin Strijbos. Se prendo regolarmente buone partenze, come nella prima manche ad Hawkstone, so di cosa siamo capaci in questa stagione. Andiamo !”

Febvre ready for Argentina
After two solid pre-season races Romain Febvre and the Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP are ready for the opening round of the FIM MXGP World Motocross Championship in Argentina this weekend.
It has been a busy winter for the Frenchman who underwent surgery straight after the final GP of 2022 to remove a pin in his leg. “The surgeon also took this opportunity to clean the knee so I had to wait until the end of November to get back training physically and later on the bike. For the first time in a while I can run and undertake physical training without pain, and that was great to have a strong winter to prepare the season,” explained Romain, who also decided to have further minor surgery on his forearms in January. “Two years ago I experienced pain in my arms and underwent surgery then last year, when I was back after six months, the pain returned. That’s pretty usual after you don’t ride for a long time, but after intensive training and testing this winter I felt the pain again so I didn’t want to take any risks and had surgery in January. I had to stop riding for a few weeks which is why I didn’t race the Italian International series.”
For the ninth time in his career, Romain will line up in the MXGP class where he won the world title in 2015. He narrowly missed a second title in 2021, his second year with Kawasaki, when the series went to the final moto of the season, and of course it’s his main goal this year to clinch gold again. “It’s impossible to explain what a great feeling it is when you are world champion. Already as a child I was dreaming to get a title at least one time; it was a dream initially but when I finally got it I wanted more. When you take part in any sport, whatever it is, you want to be the best but it’s not easy. Then when you miss it by just a couple of points like in 2021 you look back on the season and you see where you could have got those few more points. And that’s not easy to accept,” he said in analysis. With all his experience he knows how important the mental approach is. “The mental side is a big part of the puzzle! Even if you work hard and are ready for the challenge you know before the start of each race that it’s a tough affair. To be strong mentally can help you to handle the pressure, and that’s something that you must have in you. Either you have it or you don’t; you can’t invent it.”
The pre-season races were pretty good for Romain, who achieved several podium results, but now it’s time to line up for the first GPs against even stronger opposition. “I’m nearly at 100% now, and the season will be really long. I love that track in Argentina, and the goal will be to score as many points as possible at each round. I know that in 2021 I was missing some speed compared to Herlings at times, and that’s a point we have worked on with Kevin Strijbos. If I regularly take good starts, like in the first moto at Hawkstone, I know what we are capable of this season. Let’s go !”
