Tomac finisce sesto alla Wild Anaheim I
Eli Tomac di Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing è tornato da un inizio difficile per finire sesto nel drammatico Main Event 450SX di ieri sera all’apertura della stagione Monster Energy AMA Supercross all’Angel Stadium di Anaheim. Il suo compagno di squadra Dylan Ferrandis stava lottando per tornare tra i primi cinque in condizioni difficili, ma alla fine è arrivato 16°.
Sia Tomac che Ferrandis hanno mostrato velocità in anticipo, qualificandosi rispettivamente secondo e quinto. Dopo essere arrivato terzo nella sua gara di qualifica, Tomac stava cercando di costruire quel risultato ma non ha ottenuto la partenza che sperava e si è ritrovato 11° dopo il primo giro. Ha continuato a spingere e ha corso una gara intelligente per finire sesto in mezzo alla guerra di Anaheim in condizioni difficili.
Ferrandis ha anche lottato con le partenze ad Anaheim I. È arrivato quinto nella sua gara di quali e ha avuto un’altra partenza difficile nel main, ma si è subito messo al lavoro ed è avanzato all’11° posto dietro al suo compagno di squadra al giro 3. Il campione 2021 della 450MX ha superato un paio di giri dopo e ha continuato la sua carica in avanti fino al sesto posto. Durante la foga della battaglia, ha avuto un problema con le whoops ed è stato rimescolato all’11° posto a otto giri dalla fine. Ha provato a iniziare un’altra carica in avanti, ma sfortunatamente è caduto e ha continuato a recuperare alcuni punti al 16 ° posto.
Il team Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing si dirigerà a Oakland, in California, il prossimo fine settimana per il secondo round del Monster Energy AMA Supercross al RingCentral Coliseum sabato 15 gennaio.

“È stato un inizio un po’ più lento di quello che volevamo in questa stagione. Stasera si è davvero ridotto a due cose: le partenze e stavo lottando un po’ con le whoops. Era una pista difficile; probabilmente uno degli A1 più duri che abbiamo avuto da un po’ di tempo. Una nota positiva, ho avuto sessioni di qualifiche davvero buone tutto il giorno, quindi so di poter essere veloce ed essere lì. Devo solo mettere tutto insieme. È sempre più facile a dirsi che a farsi, ma è possibile. Cercheremo di sistemare le piccole cose e torneremo la prossima settimana”.

“Anaheim I è sempre un po’ matto. In realtà mi sentivo abbastanza bene tutto il giorno; sono stati i miei inizi a farmi male. Nell’evento principale, sono partito davvero male, ma sono risalito. Mi sentivo abbastanza bene, abbastanza forte e stavo tornando tra i primi cinque. Poi ho avuto un problema e ho provato a tornare, ma ho commesso un errore e sono andato in crash. Quindi non è stata davvero una bella serata, ma ora so di essere in grado di guidare in testa nella classe 450. Ci riorganizzeremo e saremo pronti per il prossimo fine settimana”.

Tomac Finishes Sixth at Wild Anaheim I
Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing’s Eli Tomac came back from a tough start to finish sixth in last night’s drama-filled 450SX Main Event at the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season opener at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim. His teammate Dylan Ferrandis was fighting his way back for a top-five result in the challenging conditions but ultimately finished 16th.
Both Tomac and Ferrandis showed speed early, qualifying second and fifth, respectively. After finishing third in his heat race, Tomac was looking to build off that result but did not get the start he was hoping for and found himself 11th after the first lap. He kept pushing and rode a smart race to finish sixth amidst the war of attrition in the challenging conditions.
Ferrandis also struggled with starts at Anaheim I. He finished fifth in his heat race and had another difficult start in the main, but immediately went to work and advanced to 11th behind his teammate by Lap 3. The 2021 450MX Champion moved past a couple of laps later and continued his forward charge to sixth. During the heat of battle, he had an issue in the whoops and was shuffled to 11th with eight laps remaining. He tried to begin another forward charge but unfortunately crashed and went on to salvage some points in 16th.
The Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team heads up to Oakland, California, next weekend for Round 2 of Monster Energy AMA Supercross at RingCentral Coliseum on Saturday, January 15.

“Anaheim I was off to a very good start for us, and both Eli and Dylan were very comfortable and qualified well. Unfortunately, we did not get the results we were looking for in the race. We need to go back to work and execute our starts. Starting in the back makes it very hard to get to the front of this stacked class. We are going to put our heads down and come back stronger in Oakland.”

“It was a little bit of a slower start than what we wanted this season. It really came down to two things tonight: the starts and I was struggling a little bit with the whoops. It was a tough track; probably one of the toughest A1’s that we’ve had in quite some time. On a positive note, I had really good qualifying sessions all day, so I know I can be fast and be there. I just have to put it all together. It’s always easier said than done, but it’s possible. We’re going to try and fix the little things and come back next week.”

“Anaheim I is always a little crazy. I was actually feeling pretty good all day; it was my starts that hurt me. In the main event, I got a really bad start, but I moved my way up. I was feeling pretty good, pretty strong, and was coming back to the top five. Then I had an issue and tried to come back but made a mistake and crashed. So it was not a really good night, but I know now that I’m capable of riding out front in the 450 class. We’re going to regroup and be ready for next weekend.”
