Fernandez riceverà la nuova CRF250R per il Gran Premio di casa
L’emergente stella spagnola della MX2 – Ruben Fernandez di 114 Motorsports Honda – ha faticato ad aumentare il suo podio nella seconda metà della stagione 2021, ma spera che il suo infortunio alla spalla destra in lento miglioramento e il nuovo arrivo della CRF250R 2022 aumentino la sua competitività, a partire da questo fine settimana per il suo round casalingo a Intu Xanadú Arroyomolinos.
Il 22enne si è lussato la clavicola in un incidente alla prima curva al Gran Premio di Sardegna tre settimane fa ed è stato in grado di guidare la Honda per la prima volta solo prima del round francese di domenica scorsa.
“Tre settimane senza guidare… ma era ora di provare e soprattutto con il GP di casa in arrivo”, ha detto a Lacapelle Marival. “Volevo anche correre per la squadra a casa loro qui. È ancora doloroso e ancora di più quando scendo dalla moto. Se ci sto lavorando da molto tempo, mi accorgo davvero che qualcosa non va. Alla fine è ‘guidabile’ e l’adrenalina aiuta parecchio a sopportare”.
Fernandez non ha potuto completare la prima manche in Francia a causa di un problema tecnico e anche se il team è stato in grado di mettere a punto il proprio attuale CRF è stato penalizzato sia per la potenza che per il peso e le dimensioni della 250. 114 Motorsports ha avuto un spinta di recente quando è stato confermato che la nuova 250R arriverà nelle loro mani prima del round spagnolo. La moto è la base tecnica che Jett Lawrence ha utilizzato per vincere il titolo AMA 250MX 2021. Fernandez accoglie con favore l’upgrade ma non sa se sarà pronto per il cancello di Madrid.
“Può essere solo un bene. Da quello che ho sentito è un bel miglioramento a tutto tondo e quando si tratta di prepararlo per i Gran Premi allora dovremmo avere più possibilità, più potenza”, dice. “Faremo alcuni test questa settimana e guideremo su una pista vicino a Intu Xanadú e prenderemo una decisione se è pronta per il GP o se dobbiamo ancora lavorare”.
La Honda americana ha guidato il proprio sviluppo in collaborazione con HRC per gli sforzi delle corse dei Lawrence, ma non è ancora chiaro se i giapponesi daranno lo stesso sostegno a 114 Motorsports e Fernandez per la stagione 2022.

Fernandez to get new CRF250R for home Grand Prix
Emerging Spanish MX2 star – 114 Motorsports Honda’s Ruben Fernandez – has struggled to add to his podium tally in the second half of the 2021 season but hopes his slowly improving right shoulder injury and the fresh arrival of the 2022 CRF250R will boost his competitiveness, starting this weekend for his home round at Intu Xanadú Arroyomolinos.
The 22-year-old dislocated his collarbone in a first corner crash at the Grand Prix of Sardinia three weeks ago and was only able to ride the Honda for the first time prior to the French round last Sunday. “Three weeks without riding…but it was time to try and especially with the home GP coming up,” he said at Lacapelle Marival. “I also wanted to ride for the team at their home round here. It’s still painful and more so when I get off the bike. If I’m on it for a long time then I really notice that something is not right. In the end it’s ‘rideable’ and the adrenaline cloaks a lot of it.”
Fernandez could not complete the first moto in France due to a technical problem and even though the team have been able to highly tune their current CRF he has been penalised for both horsepower and because of his weight and size for the 250. 114 Motorsports had a boost recently when it was confirmed that the new 250R will come into their hands prior to the Spanish round. The bike is the technical base that Jett Lawrence used to win the 2021 AMA 250MX title. Fernandez welcomes the upgrade but doesn’t know if it will be ready for the gate in Madrid.
“It can only be a good thing. From what I hear it’s quite an improvement all-round and when it comes to preparing it for Grands Prix then we should have more possibilities, more power,” he says. “We’ll do some tests this week and will ride at a track close to Intu Xanadú and make a decision if it’s ready for the GP or we still need to do some work.”
American Honda have led their own development in conjunction with HRC for the Lawrences’ racing efforts but it is still unclear whether the Japanese will give the same backing to 114 Motorsports and Fernandez for the 2022 season.
