Ferrandis Battles Torna in cima a Budds Creek
Dylan Ferrandis di Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing ha combattuto per la vittoria in Moto 2, conquistando la vittoria complessiva di Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450MX con un risultato di 2-1 al Budds Creek National di ieri. Dopo essere caduto fuori dalla prima manche, Christian Craig è rimbalzato per prendere un ottavo posto in Moto 2. Ancora non al 100% dopo la sua grande caduta lo scorso fine settimana, Aaron Plessinger ha fatto uno sforzo coraggioso per correre il nono round del campionato a Mechanicsville, Maryland, ma alla fine si ritirò dalla gara dopo il giro di boa della Moto 1.
Ferrandis ha avuto un buon inizio di giornata, qualificandosi secondo. Non è sceso dal cancello come sperava, ma al primo giro è rapidamente arrivato quinto. Al quinto giro, il leader della classifica è passato al quarto posto e poi ha ridotto il divario verso l’ultimo posto sul podio intorno al punto centrale, facendo il sorpasso per il terzo posto poco prima dell’inizio del giro 10. Dietro al leader di oltre 10 secondi, ha messo la testa giù e ha chiuso il gap in seconda, passandolo poco prima che finisse il tempo. A tre giri dalla fine, il francese ha continuato a caricare e ha divorato il distacco di cinque secondi per portare il suo rivale in vista, arrivando a soli 0,384 di secondo dalla vittoria.
Infiammato dopo quella prima manche, Ferrandis ha avuto una partenza migliore in terza posizione. Dopo essere stato rimescolato al quarto posto, il francese è rapidamente tornato al terzo posto poco prima del traguardo del secondo giro. Ha continuato a registrare alcuni tempi veloci e ha ridotto il divario dai primi, ma non era solo mentre la gara si stringeva e si trasformò in una battaglia di quattro piloti. All’ottavo giro, ha fatto un altro sorpasso prima del traguardo per prendere il secondo posto e mettere gli occhi sul leader. Pochi giri dopo, ha fatto un paio di tentativi e poi ha fatto passare il suo rivale in campionato per rivendicare il comando. Ferrandis ha costruito un gap e ha colto la vittoria per tornare sul gradino più alto del podio con la sua quinta vittoria assoluta della stagione. Il risultato di 2-1 ha anche mantenuto il suo vantaggio di 39 punti nella corsa al titolo con tre turni rimanenti.
La prima manche di Craig ha avuto un inizio difficile. Non ha avuto la partenza che sperava e poi è caduto al secondo giro e alla fine è stato accreditato con il 40esimo posto. Il californiano è risalito in Moto 2 con una partenza migliore ed è rapidamente arrivato all’ottavo posto, dove avrebbe concluso, chiudendo la giornata in 14° posto assoluto.
Plessinger ha provato a resistere a Budds Creek nonostante non si sentisse al 100% dopo il suo grande incidente lo scorso fine settimana a Unadilla. Ha fatto un buon lavoro di qualificazione all’ottavo posto e una partenza decente appena fuori dalla top 10 in Moto 1. È arrivato fino al settimo posto, ma le condizioni punitive lo hanno fatto perdere la classifica prima della metà del percorso, e alla fine si è ritirato dal l’evento pochi giri dopo.
Il 28 agosto il team Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing si reca a Crawfordsville, nell’Indiana, per il decimo round del campionato Lucas Oil Pro Motocross all’Ironman National.

È difficile impegnarsi così tanto e perdere di pochi decimi, ma è stata una buona manche. La mia partenza è stata molto migliore in Moto 2, quindi mi sono messo in una posizione migliore e ho fatto delle belle battaglie. Volevo davvero quella vittoria. La moto era incredibile e la squadra è fantastica, anche i miei compagni di squadra, quindi è davvero un ottimo ambiente per ottenere buoni risultati. Sono davvero felice della mia giornata al Budds Creek.”

“È stata una giornata piuttosto selvaggia a Budds Creek. Le qualifiche sono andate bene ed ero fiducioso per le manche. Sfortunatamente, ho avuto una brutta partenza in Moto 1 e pochi giri dopo ho avuto una brutta caduta. Ero piuttosto scosso e incapace di finire la manche, ma mi sentivo abbastanza bene per uscire per la Moto 2 e sono riuscito a ottenere alcuni punti e finire ottavo. Torneremo a lavorare e cercheremo di finire la stagione alla grande”.

Ferrandis Battles Back to the Top at Budds Creek
Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing’s Dylan Ferrandis fought to victory in Moto 2, taking the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450MX overall win with a 2-1 result at yesterday’s Budds Creek National. After crashing out of the first moto, Christian Craig rebounded to take an eighth-place finish in Moto 2. Still not 100% after his big get-off last weekend, Aaron Plessinger made a valiant effort to race the ninth round of the championship in Mechanicsville, Maryland, but ultimately withdrew from the race after the halfway mark of Moto 1.
Ferrandis had a good start to the day, qualifying second. He did not get off of the gate as he hoped but quickly made his way into fifth on the first lap. On Lap 5, the points leader moved into fourth and then closed the gap to the final podium spot around the midway point, making the pass for third just before the start of Lap 10. Trailing the leader by over 10 seconds, he put his head down and closed the gap on second, passing him right before the clock ran out. With three laps to go, the Frenchman kept charging and ate away at the five-second gap to bring his rival in sight, coming just .384 of a second shy of the win.
Fired up after that first moto, Ferrandis had a better start in third. After getting shuffled to fourth, the Frenchman quickly made his way back to third just before the finish line on Lap 2. He kept putting in some fast times and closed the gap to the frontrunners, but he wasn’t alone as the race tightened up and turned into a four-rider battle. On Lap 8, he made another pass before the finish line to take the runner-up spot and set his sights on the leader. A few laps later, he had a couple of tries and then made the pass stick on his championship rival to claim the lead. Ferrandis built a gap and took the win to return to the top step of the podium with his fifth overall victory of the season. The 2-1 result also maintained his 39-point advantage in the title chase with three rounds remaining.
Craig’s first moto got off to a rough beginning. He didn’t get the start he was hoping for and then crashed on the second lap and ultimately was credited with 40th. The Californian rebounded in Moto 2 with a better start and quickly made his way to eighth, where he would finish, ending the day 14th overall.
Plessinger tried to tough it out at Budds Creek despite not feeling 100% after his big crash last weekend at Unadilla. He had a good qualifying effort in eighth and a decent start just outside of the top 10 in Moto 1. He worked his way up to seventh, but the punishing conditions had him dropping down the order before the halfway mark, and he ultimately withdrew from the event a few laps later.
The Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team heads to Crawfordsville, Indiana, on August 28 for Round 10 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at the Ironman National.

“I didn’t have a good start in Moto 1. I had to push hard to come back to second and then managed to finish the moto close to the leader. It’s hard putting in so much effort and losing by a few tenths, but it was a good moto. My start was way better in Moto 2, so I put myself in a better position and had some good battles. I really wanted that win. The bike was incredible, and the team is awesome — my teammates also — so it’s a really good environment for getting good results. I’m really happy with my day at Budds Creek.”

“It was a pretty wild day at Budds Creek. Qualifying went well, and I was confident going into the motos. Unfortunately, I got a really bad start in Moto 1, and a few laps later had a big crash. I was pretty shaken up and unable to finish the moto, but I felt good enough to go out for Moto 2 and was able to get some points and finish eighth. We’ll get back to work and look to finish out the season strong.”
