Ferrandis finisce secondo assoluto a Tough Unadilla
Dylan Ferrandis di Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing è tornato sul podio con un ottimo secondo posto assoluto in condizioni difficili al Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Unadilla National di ieri a New Berlin, New York. Il leader della classe 450 ha mantenuto la sua striscia di podi e ha ottenuto alcuni punti preziosi nella lotta per il titolo. Christian Craig ha avuto un’altra solida prestazione all’interno della top 10, chiudendo la giornata al settimo posto assoluto. Sfortunatamente, la giornata di Aaron Plessinger si è conclusa presto con una grande partenza nella prima manche mentre combatteva davanti.
Ferrandis è partito bene dalla quinta scelta del cancello ed è stato terzo dopo la partenza alle spalle di Plessinger. Da lì, ha guidato una gara intelligente comodamente in quella posizione e poi è passato al secondo posto dopo che il suo compagno di squadra è caduto fuori dalla gara, conquistando il suo 13° podio in moto della stagione. Ha ottenuto un’altra buona partenza nella seconda manche in quarta ed è stato rapidamente alle calcagna del terzo pilota. Il francese lo ha superato all’esterno per conquistare l’ultimo posto sul podio, ma i primi avevano già accumulato un comodo distacco. Da lì, Ferrandis ha corso una gara intelligente per finire terzo, assicurandosi il secondo posto assoluto e partendo con un vantaggio di 39 punti in campionato.
In qualifica ottavo, Craig non è uscito dal cancello come sperava nella prima manche e si è ritrovato 13° dopo il primo giro. Ha abbassato la testa e si è rapidamente fatto strada nella top 10. A tre giri dalla fine, ha ridotto il divario nella battaglia per il quinto posto, ma alla fine ha dovuto accontentarsi del settimo. Il californiano è partito decisamente meglio in Moto 2, infilato alle spalle del compagno di squadra e in lotta per il quinto posto. In sesta posizione, ha gestito la sua gara in condizioni difficili per mantenere la posizione e concludere la giornata al settimo posto assoluto.
Plessinger ha iniziato la giornata alla grande, ottenendo il miglior risultato in carriera nella classe regina al secondo posto. Dopo la caduta del cancello, si è infilato in quel secondo posto. Il duo davanti si è allontanato dal resto del gruppo e il nativo dell’Ohio ha corso alcuni giri veloci per mantenere il leader in vista. Poco dopo la metà del percorso, Plessinger ha avuto una brutta caduta e non è stato in grado di rientrare in gara. È stato valutato dall’Unità medica mobile e inviato all’ospedale per ulteriori accertamenti, dove è stato dimesso. Plessinger sarà valutato di nuovo prima del round del prossimo fine settimana al Budds Creek Motocross Park e seguirà un aggiornamento.

“Sono venuto qui per vincere, ma il secondo posto assoluto è stato il meglio che potessi fare oggi. La pista era semplicemente selvaggia! Era così tecnico e così difficile da guidare e andare veloce. Non avevamo il ritmo e Ken (Roczen) era troppo forte, quindi congratulazioni a lui. Siamo saliti su ogni podio finora in questa stagione e ne sono davvero felice. Ferrandis Finishes Second Overall at Tough Unadilla
Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing’s Dylan Ferrandis returned to the podium with a strong second overall finish in challenging conditions at yesterday’s Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Unadilla National in New Berlin, New York. The 450 class points leader maintained his podium streak and scored some valuable points in the title fight. Christian Craig had another solid performance inside the top 10, ending the day seventh overall. Unfortunately, Aaron Plessinger’s day ended early with a big get-off in the first moto while fighting up front.
Ferrandis got a good start from the fifth gate pick and was third after the start behind Plessinger. From there, he rode a smart race comfortably in that position and then advanced to second after his teammate crashed out of the race, scoring his 13th moto podium of the season. He got another good start in the second moto in fourth and was quickly on the heels of the third-place rider. The Frenchman passed him on the outside to take that final podium spot, but the front runners had already amassed a comfortable gap. From there, Ferrandis rode a smart race to finish third, securing second overall and leaving with a 39-point lead in the championship.
Qualifying eighth, Craig didn’t get off the gate as he hoped in the first moto and found himself back in 13th after the first lap. He put his head down and quickly made his way inside the top 10. With three laps to go, he closed the gap on the battle for fifth but ultimately had to settle for seventh. The Californian got a much better start in Moto 2, slotted behind his teammate and battling for fifth. In sixth place, he managed his race in the tricky conditions to maintain the position and end the day seventh overall.
Plessinger got the day off to a great start, earning a career-best qualifying result in the premier class in second. After the gate drop, he slotted into that runner-up spot. The duo up front pulled away from the rest of the field, and the Ohio native ran some fast laps to keep the leader in sight. Just after the halfway mark, Plessinger had a big crash and was unable to rejoin the race. He was evaluated by the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit and sent to the hospital for further evaluation, where he was cleared. Plessinger will be evaluated again before next weekend’s round at Budds Creek Motocross Park, and an update will follow.

“We had a very up and down day at Unadilla. Practice went well, and the first moto started great with Aaron and Dylan up front, and Christian charging through the pack.
