Ferrandis rafforza la posizione di campionato a Southwick
Dylan Ferrandis di Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing continua a rafforzare la sua posizione nel campionato Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450MX, ottenendo la sua quarta vittoria assoluta al Southwick National di ieri. Christian Craig ha avuto un paio di ribaltamenti nella seconda manche e ha concluso la giornata 11° con un risultato di 9-13. È stata una giornata sulle montagne russe per Aaron Plessinger, che ha raggiunto il suo compagno di squadra sul podio della Moto 1 con un altro terzo posto, ma sfortunatamente ha concluso 12° assoluto a causa di un problema tecnico in Moto 2.
Ferrandis è uscito oscillando in Moto 1. Ha afferrato il suo primo holeshot nella classe regina e poi ha buttato giù il giro più veloce della gara al giro 2 per costruire un gap sulla concorrenza. Il detentore della tabella rossa ha allungato e ha portato a quasi 10 secondi quando ha tagliato il traguardo con un comodo margine per la sua terza vittoria in manche della stagione.
Nella seconda manche, Ferrandis era sesto dopo la partenza ed è rapidamente arrivato quarto. Dopo un paio di giri, il pilota francese ha dovuto passare alla modalità di conservazione per gestire la sua gara. È stato in grado di conquistare l’ultimo posto sul podio a metà gara e ha cercato di colmare il divario dal secondo, ma ha avuto un ribaltamento e alla fine ha portato la moto a casa al terzo posto per assicurarsi la sua quarta vittoria assoluta della stagione. Ferrandis lascia “The Wick” con un vantaggio di 19 punti mentre la serie si avvicina alla metà.
Anche Plessinger ha avuto un’ottima partenza nella prima manche, arrivando poco prima dell’holeshot mentre il suo compagno di squadra ha preso la linea interna. È stato subito sotto pressione ed è passato al primo giro. Il nativo dell’Ohio ha tenuto d’occhio il suo ex compagno di squadra e ha cercato di colmare il divario, ma alla fine ha dovuto accontentarsi del terzo podio consecutivo al terzo posto. In Moto 2, Plessinger ha tentato un altro holeshot ed è partito benissimo terzo, ma sfortunatamente un problema tecnico ha posto fine alla sua gara al primo giro.
Craig ha iniziato bene la giornata, qualificandosi quinto. Non ha avuto la partenza che stava cercando nella prima manche e ha dovuto farsi strada dall’11° posto per rompere la top 10 e finire nono. Il californiano è partito decisamente meglio nella seconda manche all’interno dei primi cinque. Dopo essere stato superato da Ferrandis, ha avuto un ribaltamento ed è rientrato ottavo. Ha continuato a spingere ma sfortunatamente ha avuto un altro incidente alla fine della manche, tagliando il traguardo 13° per l’11° assoluto.
Il prossimo fine settimana il team Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing si dirigerà a Millville, Minnesota, per lo Spring Creek National il 17 luglio, round 6 del Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship allo Spring Creek MX Park.

“È stata una giornata pazzesca a Southwick! Mi sentivo benissimo nella prima manche, non avevo nessuno davanti e avevo occhiali puliti e niente sabbia in faccia. Quindi è stata una moto abbastanza facile da quello a cui sono abituato, non dover combattere con i ragazzi da dietro. La pista era davvero difficile da gestire. Era una pista tecnica, davvero accidentata, e non lo stesso stile di pista di sabbia a cui sono abituato in Europa. Sono felice di ottenere la vittoria generale, ma avremmo potuto essere migliori in Moto 2. Possiamo ancora mantenere la tabella rossa, il che è davvero positivo per me e per il team”.

Ferrandis Strengthens Championship Bid at Southwick
Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing’s Dylan Ferrandis continues to strengthen his position in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross 450MX Championship, taking his fourth overall victory at yesterday’s Southwick National. Christian Craig had a couple of tip-overs in the second moto and ended the day 11th with a 9-13 result. It was a rollercoaster day for Aaron Plessinger, who joined his teammate on the Moto 1 podium with another third-place finish, but unfortunately finished 12th overall with a technical issue in Moto 2.
Ferrandis came out swinging in Moto 1. He grabbed his first holeshot in the premier class and then threw down the fastest lap of the race on Lap 2 to build a gap on the competition. The red-plate holder stretched that lead to almost 10 seconds and crossed the line with a comfortable margin for his third moto victory of the season.
In the second moto, Ferrandis was sixth after the start and quickly made his way to fourth. After a couple of laps in, the hard-charging Frenchman had to switch into conservation mode to manage his race. He was able to take the final podium spot at the halfway mark and tried to close the gap to second, but had a tip-over and ultimately brought the bike home in third to secure his fourth overall victory of the season. Ferrandis leaves ‘The Wick’ with a 19-point lead as the series approaches the halfway mark.
Plessinger also had a great start in the first moto, coming just shy of the holeshot as his teammate took the inside line. He was immediately under pressure and passed on the opening lap. The Ohio native kept his former teammate in sight and tried to close the gap but ultimately had to settle for his third-consecutive podium finish in third. In Moto 2, Plessinger went for another holeshot and got a great start in third, but unfortunately, a technical issue ended his race on the opening lap.
Craig got a good start to the day, qualifying fifth. He didn’t get the start he was looking for in the first moto and had to work his way from 11th to break the top 10 and finish ninth. The Californian got a much better start in the second moto inside the top five. After being passed by Ferrandis, he had a tip-over and rejoined in eighth. He kept pushing but unfortunately had another crash late in the moto, crossing the line 13th for 11th overall.
Next weekend the Monster Energy Star Yamaha Racing team heads to Millville, Minnesota, for the Spring Creek National on July 17, Round 6 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at the Spring Creek MX Park.

“It was a crazy day at Southwick! I was feeling great in the first moto, having no one in front of me and having clean googles and no sand in my face. So it was a pretty easy moto from what I’m used to, not having to fight with the guys from behind. The track was really hard to manage. It was a technical track, really rough, and not the same style of sand track that I’m used to in Europe. I’m happy to get the overall win, but we could have been better in Moto 2. We still get to keep the red plate which is really good for me and the team.”

“It was a tough day for me. I had to come from the back in Moto 1 to finish ninth. In the second moto, I had a better start and was running towards the front, but unfortunately had a big crash towards the end and just had to ride it in from there.”

The track was gnarly today with a hard base but super deep where It was really sandy. I’m happy with my starts and my riding. We’ll keep working and bring the heat next weekend at Spring Creek.”
