Gajser vince un’altra manche epica per estendere il vantaggio in campionato
Tim Gajser del Team HRC ha prodotto un’altra epica prestazione nella seconda manche per vincere la gara al MXGP della Gran Bretagna, andando a quattro per il secondo posto assoluto e aumentando il suo vantaggio in cima al campionato mondiale di motocross a 15 punti sul secondo posto.
Con la pioggia che ha minacciato il circuito di Matterley Basin vicino a Winchester, in Inghilterra per tutto il giorno, la prima manche non ha prodotto molti sorpassi poiché i piloti hanno faticato a trovare linee diverse su quello che è il tempo sul giro più lungo del calendario. In qualifica i primi sette sono stati separati da poco più di un secondo e questo è continuato dopo la caduta del cancello poiché i piloti generalmente hanno terminato molto vicino al punto in cui hanno attraversato il primo giro. Per Gajser, questo ha significato un solido quarto posto, sistemandosi dietro a quelli davanti, non volendo forzare il problema così presto in questa battaglia per il campionato.
Tuttavia, in gara due, dopo un acquazzone e un’altra manche MX2, la pista argillosa aveva sviluppato alcuni solchi e il pilota della Honda CRF450RW lo ha sfruttato a suo vantaggio, tagliando il campo nel primo giro dopo una buona partenza per attraversare per il primo giro al terzo posto. Dopo un altro paio di giri aveva fatto un’altra mossa e stava mettendo gli occhi sul leader per provare a vincere quella che sarebbe stata la sua terza manche su quattro finora nel 2021.
Dopo aver studiato le sue linee per l’intera seconda metà della gara, Gajser sapeva esattamente dove voleva fare il sorpasso, quindi quando è uscito il tabellone dei due giri, ha chiuso il gap e ha applicato davvero la pressione. Il primo tentativo non è andato a buon fine, ma il campione del mondo in carica non si è negato e a mezzo giro dalla fine è passato in testa, prendendo la bandiera a scacchi e continuando la sua ottima corsa di forma. Questa vittoria ha dato a Gajser 43 punti per il secondo posto assoluto, ma soprattutto cinque punti in più rispetto al suo più vicino rivale in campionato e quindi dopo solo due round, è già a 15 punti dal secondo posto, e su una manche dal quarto posto in poi.
Il prossimo appuntamento, domenica prossima, è la storica pista di Maggiora, in Italia, dove il pilota del Team HRC ha già vinto all’inizio di quest’anno in una gara del Campionato Italiano, quindi sarà pieno di fiducia e sperando che il terzo round vada bene come i primi due.

Mi piace sempre venire in Inghilterra e correre qui a Matterley Basin. Il tempo ha fatto sì che non strappassero così tanto la pista, quindi nella prima manche non c’erano molte linee e non era facile passare così mi sono dovuto accontentare di un quarto posto. Sentivo che avrei potuto lottare per il comando ma non volevo spingere troppo e pensavo che in gara due sarebbe stato più facile. Ho avuto una partenza migliore nella seconda gara e nonostante ci fossero molti sorpassi e azioni in corso, sono rimasto calmo e concentrato sulla ricerca di buone traiettorie e sul lavoro per arrivare in testa. Quando ero al secondo posto, non potevo stare troppo vicino al leader per molto tempo perché il terreno era duro e volevo essere sicuro di avere una visione chiara verso la fine della gara. Quando ho visto uscire il tabellone dei due giri, sapevo che avevo un paio di posti dove potevo fare la mia mossa e nell’ultimo giro ho usato una buona linea esterna e ho preso il comando. Sono davvero contento di come sto guidando e di come tutti nel team stanno lavorando insieme per migliorare ogni fine settimana. Non vedo l’ora che arrivi Maggiora e spero di continuare questa serie di risultati. Un grande grazie a tutti!

Dopo la Russia, sapevamo che questo sarebbe stato un fine settimana importante per Tim, al fine di sostenere le sue prestazioni e dimostrare che può correre a quel livello ogni fine settimana. E dopo gara due, penso che abbia dimostrato di essere il ragazzo più veloce della classe e il pilota da battere quest’anno. Ora ha superato tutti i suoi rivali e sebbene fosse secondo assoluto, ha comunque aumentato il divario in cima al campionato e sta guidando così bene. Abbiamo solo una settimana fino al prossimo turno, ma continueremo ad assicurarci che tutto vada nella giusta direzione e che Tim mantenga il suo alto livello di prestazione.

Gajser wins another epic moto to extend championship lead
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser produced another epic second moto performance to take the race win at the MXGP of Great Britain, going four-one for second overall and increasing his lead at the top of the world motocross championship to 15 points over second place.
With rain threatening the Matterley Basin circuit near Winchester, England throughout the day, the first moto didn’t produce a lot of passing as riders struggled to find different lines on what is the longest laptime on the calendar. In qualifying the top seven were separated by just over a second and that continued after the gate drop as riders generally finished very close to where they crossed the first lap. For Gajser, this meant a solid fourth place effort, settling behind those in front, not wanting to force the issue so early on in this championship battle.
However, in race two, after a light shower and another MX2 moto, the loamy track had developed a few ruts and the Honda CRF450RW rider used that to his advantage, slicing his way through the field on the first lap after a good start to cross for the first lap in third place. After a couple more laps he had made another move and was setting his sights on the leader in order to try and win what would be his third moto out of four so far in 2021.
After studying his lines for the entire second-half of the race, Gajser knew exactly where he wanted to make the pass, so when the two-lap board came out, he closed the gap and really applied the pressure. The first attempt didn’t quite stick, but the reigning world champion wasn’t to be denied and with half a lap remaining he swept through into the lead, taking the chequered flag and continuing his excellent run of form. This victory gave Gajser 43 points for second overall, but importantly five points more than his nearest championship rival and so after just two rounds, he is already 15 points of second place, and over a moto clear of fourth place onwards.
Next up, this coming Sunday, is the historic track in Maggiora, Italy where the Team HRC rider has already won earlier this year at an Italian Championship race, so he’ll be brimming with confidence and hoping that round three will go as well as the first two.

I always enjoy coming to England and racing here at Matterley Basin. The weather meant that they didn’t rip the track so much, so in the first moto there weren’t many lines and it wasn’t easy to pass on so I just had to settle for a fourth place. I felt I could have challenged for the lead but I didn’t want to push too hard and I thought that in race two it would be easier. I got a better start in second race and although there was a lot of passing and action going on, I stayed calm and focused on finding good lines and working my way to the front. When I was in second place, I couldn’t stay too close to the leader for a long time because the roost was hard and I wanted to make sure I had clear vision for near the end of the race. When I saw the two-lap board come out, I knew a couple of places where I could make my move and on the last lap I used a really good outside line and took the lead. I’m really happy with how I’m riding and how everyone in the team is working together to improve each weekend. I can’t wait for Maggiora and I hope to continue this run of results. After Russia, we knew that this would be an important weekend for Tim, in order to backup his performance and show that he can race at that level every weekend. And after race two, I think he proved that he is the fastest guy in the class and the rider to beat this year. He has now passed everyone of his rivals and although he was second overall, he still increased the gap at the top of the championship and is just riding so well. We only have a week until the next round but we will keep making sure that everything is going in the right direction and that Tim maintains his high level of performance.
