Nessuna pausa per Lawrence direttamente nella preparazione al Supercross
Quando la maggior parte dei piloti MXGP completeranno i primi test del 2019 e considereranno alcune festività, l’australiano Hunter Lawrence sarà impegnato in una fase di adattamento con Geico Honda e imparerà a conoscere i millimetri delle piste di test californiane.
Lawrence, che ha fatto il suo ultimo Gran Premio MX2 due settimane fa a Imola, Italia come parte del team Honda 114 Motorsports (essenzialmente uno stop-gap prima di unirsi a Geico per i campionati 2019 AMA 250SX e MX che è stata sventrato da un infortunio alla mano e commozione cerebrale ) era stato nella scena del campionato mondiale per due anni e nel 2015 ha anche vinto nel campionato europeo EMX250. In quel periodo ha corso con Kawasaki, Suzuki e Honda ma ha trovato il suo percorso con l’assetto Geico.
“Non sono troppo triste per andarmene perché è quello che ho sempre sognato, quindi sto creando degli obiettivi”, ha ammesso. “E ‘stato un anno deludente e non ho raggiunto quello che ho deciso di fare, ma non ho intenzione di sedermi e riflettere su di esso. Mi mancheranno tutte le persone che ho incontrato qui. ”
Lawrence ha fatto le valigie e ha volato da Imola a Chicago per rappresentare l’Australia al 72° Motocross delle Nazioni e viaggerà direttamente nel suo nuovo appartamento a Corona, in California, dove inizierà la fase successiva della sua carriera.
“Faremo dei test e lavoreremo sulle sospensioni del motocross un po ‘per anticipare il gioco per il prossimo anno”, ha detto. “Hanno cose che vogliono testare per me e poi saremo nel Supercross. Non abbiamo un programma super-rigoroso, ma ci sarò “dentro” per un paio di settimane dopo il Nazioni, mentre sono ancora affamato sulla moto per ottenere tutti i dial-in con la configurazione del motore, le sospensioni e le diverse parti dagli sponsor del team. Analizzeremo tutta la moto, analizzeremo e cercheremo di migliorare la sensazione di benessere che ho già sulla Honda “.
Lawrence ha segnato sei podi per i Gran Premi nelle sue due stagioni complete e avrebbe potuto guidare altri tre anni nella MX2, ma ha colto l’occasione con Geico che vedrà anche il suo fratello minore Jet (che quest’anno ha ottenuto risultati decenti in EMX con una Suzuki) per la squadra americana. Lawrence dovrebbe fare il suo debutto ad Anaheim 1 per l’apertura della serie 250SX West.

No break for MX2 star Lawrence straight into Supercross prep
When most MXGP riders will completing first 2019 tests and considering some holidays Australian Hunter Lawrence will be neck deep in an adaption phase with Geico Honda and learning the inches of the Californian test tracks.
Lawrence, who made his final MX2 Grand Prix appearance last week at Imola, Italy as part of the Honda 114 Motorsports team (essentially a stop-gap before joining Geico for the 2019 AMA 250SX & MX campaigns that was foiled by a hand injury and concussion) had been on the world championship scene for two years and also claimed victory in the EMX250 European championship in 2015. In that period he raced Kawasaki, Suzuki and Honda machinery but has found his path with the Geico set-up.
“I’m not too sad to leave because this is what I’ve always dreamed of, so I’m creating goals,” he admitted. “It has been a disappointing year and I didn’t achieve what I set out to do but I’m not going to sit around and ponder on it. I’ll miss all the people I’ve met here.”
Lawrence had his bags packed and flew straight from Imola to Chicago to represent Australia at the 72nd Motocross of Nations and will travel directly to his new apartment in Corona, California where the next phase of his career begins.
“We’ll do some testing and work on the motocross suspension a bit to get ahead of the game for next year,” he said. “They have stuff they want to test with me and then we’ll be into Supercross. We don’t have a super-strict schedule but I’ll be ‘into’ it for a couple of weeks after the Nations while I’m still hungry on the bike to get all dialled-in with engine configuration, suspension and the different parts from team sponsors. We’ll go through the whole bike, dissect and try to improve the comfortable feeling I have on the Honda already.”
Lawrence scored six Grand Prix podiums in his two full seasons and could have ridden another three years in MX2 but took the opportunity with Geico that will also see his younger brother Jet (who has posted decent results in EMX with a Suzuki this year) go into the American squad. Lawrence should make his debut at Anaheim 1 for the opener of the 250SX West series.
