Team France Fight for 5th Consecutive Monster Energy FIM MXoN Victory
REDBUD (Michigan, USA) 7 ottobre 2018 – La più grande gara di motocross del mondo, il Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni, era nel circuito americano di redbud, dove Team France issato il trofeo Chamberlain per il loro 5° anno di fila!
Il team francese è stato portato alla vittoria dal capitano della squadra e Monster Energy FIM MXoN veterano Gautier Paulin insieme a Dylan Ferrandis e Jordi Tixier. Venendo dalla seconda gara da un deficit di due punti è sulla squadra italiana di Antonio Cairoli, Michele Cervellin, e Alessandro Lupino. Prende l’ultimo posto sul podio la squadra olandese guidata da Jeffrey Herlings insieme a Calvin Vlaanderen e Glenn Coldenhoff.
Il 72° svolgimento della manifestazione è stato uno dei più riusciti di sempre con innumerevoli fan motocross da tutto il mondo che si sono uniti gli americani sulle colline del Michigan. L’atmosfera creata quest’anno al Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni è unica come l’evento stesso che ospita piloti e appassionati provenienti da oltre trenta paesi. I fan più appassionati di motocross, energici, e talvolta folli del mondo erano una delle parti migliori della manifestazione di quest’anno che forniscono un’emozionante giornata di competizioni.
Un vero culmine dello sport del Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni mette i piloti di solito indipendenti in un contesto di squadra contro i concorrenti faccia a faccia mettendo a dura prova la loro adattabilità, velocità e costanza nel corso di un week-end difficile. Mentre ogni fan della propria nazione avevano i loro favoriti per la vittoria, è stato uno dei più competitivi e pieno di talenti Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni di sempre. Con orgoglio sulla linea e il patriottismo nei loro cuori di 30 squadre hanno partecipato al concorso, ma il campo ridotto ad un ancora più competitive 20 teams questa mattina.
19 squadre qualificate direttamente fuori delle sessioni di qualifica ieri, e le 11 squadre rimanenti hanno avuto un’ultima possibilità durante la mattina vincendo la Finale-B. Portando la folla in piedi con la loro vittoria B-finale era il Team Porto Rico, Travis Pastrana, Kevin Windham e Ryan Sipes.
Dopo i discorsi e la tradizionale urla di “RedBuuuuud” gli Stati Uniti hanno suonato l’inno nazionale ed è stato cantato per aprire l’evento! Mentre la folla e fuochi d’artificio sono scoppiati in background i piloti MXGP e MX2 di Gara 1 sono andati in pista per il loro giro di allineamento.
La squadra della Spagna MX2 col pilota Jorge Prado era proprio dietro Herlings in seconda, ma ha assunto il comando prima del primo giro quando l’olandese scivolò. Il francese Gautier Paulin ha assunto la seconda in vantaggio del Canada Colton Facciotti. Herlings tornato su dalla pista in 5° con alle spalle l’Australiano Hunter Lawrence mentre l’americano Eli Tomac e Aaron Plessinger correvano in 10° e 9°.
Herlings si è affrettato a fare passaggi attraverso il rettilineo di partenza al primo giro ufficiale arrivato fino al 3° con Lawrence al 4°. Il compagno di squadra francese di Paulin Dylan Ferrandis era in sella bene in sesta posizione ma ha perso il posto sula Gran Bretagna Tommy Searle, alla fine del secondo giro.
Americano Tomac si stava muovendo in avanti dal 10 al 3° giro ed è arrivato fino al 6, ma il suo compagno di squadra Plessinger era caduto al 21°. Nel frattempo, il 2018 Campione del Mondo MX2 Prado ha tenuto la testa, ma Herlings si avvicinò rapidamente, passato Paulin per il secondo, al giro 8 Herlings ha preso il comando da Prado, ma il suo compagno di squadra olandese Vlaanderen era fuori gara per un infortunio all’occhio causato da una pietra.
Tomac si è fatto strada fino al 4° appena dietro al pilota MX2 Prado, mentre Cairoli è venuto dal suo primo incidente al 6, Plessinger ha recuperato solo fino al 18° posto. Herlings ha conquistato la vittoria di gara con 25 secondi su Paulin, 31 secondi da Prado e 40 secondi di vantaggio su Tomac. I risultati dei due piloti in gara 1 hanno messo la Francia in testa nella classifica del Nazioni con 9 punti, 7 meglio dell’ Italia seconda e 9 sul Belgio in terza posizione.

La seconda gara è stata combinata con i piloti della MX2 e Open che ha visto l’Olanda prendere la linea di nuovo con Glenn Coldenhoff ma questa volta non c’era Clavin Vlaanderen dopo l’infortunio di gara 1 impossibilitato nel continuare.
Senza un pilota Coldenhoff ha sfruttato al massimo la situazione per la squadra olandese prendendo il Fox Holeshot e seguito di nuovo dall’ imponente pilota MX2 Jorge Prado. Del team Gran Bretagna Ben Watson era in terza e il leader Jeremy Seewer del team Svizzera, mentre gli americani stavano di nuovo lottando.
Justin Barcia era in 16° e Plessinger era in 18° al primo giro Barcia si è fatto strada fino al 9 e dal 9° giro Coldenhoff stava ancora guidando su Prado e Watson. Plessinger d’altra parte ha ottenuto solo due posizioni in più per tutta la gara per finire 16°.
Il pilota australiano MX2 Hunter Lawrence faceva pressioni su Seewer già nel 2° giro, ma alla fine ha trovato la sua strada oltre il pilota svizzero al giro 7. 6 giri più tardi passò Watson per il 3° prima di trasferirsi in seconda davanti a Prado al penultimo giro.
Coldenhoff ha conquistato la vittoria per i Paesi Bassi davanti a Lawrence, Prado, Watson, e Seewer. Team France Ferrandis e Tixier hanno segnato 8° e 32° con la moto di Tixier ferma mentre Barcia ha fatto ulteriori mosse per prendere un 9°. I risultati 2-3 di Prado lo incoronano il vincitore assoluto MX2, mentre il Team Australia ha preso il comando del nazioni in classifica davanti a Belgio e Italia.

L’ultima gara della giornata è stata quella che ha deciso il vincitore 2018 con le classi combinate di MXGP e OPEN con l’ultima corsa. Sulla partenza era l’Italia con Alessandro Lupino che prende il Fox Holeshot davanti a Ken Roczen della Germania e Paesi Bassi Glenn Coldenhoff.
Coldenhoff ha preso il secondo sul tedesco e all’uscita della seconda curva prese l’iniziativa su Lupino per passarlo solo poche curve dopo. Paulin spostato in terza con Herlings venuto da una brutta partenza per passare sia Roczen che Paulin in un solo giro.
Venendo in avanti insieme a Herlings è stato Antonio Cairoli ma l’italiano è stato rallentato da Paulin con Herling che ha preso il 2° su Lupino. Dopo la ricerca di un modo per passare Paulin per 3 giri, Cairoli si è spostato al 4, ma poi sia lui che Paulin sono stati superati da Max Nagl della Germania.
Nagl è caduto in seguito al 7° giro però, Cairoli è stato 4° per un giro dietro Paulin che poi ha preso il posto di attacco per passare Lupino. 2 giri prima del traguardo Lupino e Cairoli si sono scambiati di posizione con Coldenhoff andato a segnare 1-1 e Herlings in seconda, terzo Paulin.
Le gare delle categorie assolute sono sia di Coldenhoff e Herlings, tuttavia, non sono stati sufficienti a compensare l’assenza di Vlaanderen e la consistenza della squadra Francese, ha fatto si di prendere la loro 5° vittoria consecutiva del Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni, il 6 ° nella storia del loro paese.

Team France Fight for 5th Consecutive Monster Energy FIM MXoN Victory
REDBUD (Michigan, USA) 07 October 2018 – The world’s biggest motocross race, the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, has taken on the American circuit of RedBud today where Team France ecstatically hoisted the Chamberlain trophy for their 5th year in a row!
The French team was led to victory by team captain and Monster Energy FIM MXoN veteran Gautier Paulin along with Dylan Ferrandis and Jordi Tixier. Coming in second by only a two-point deficit was the Italian team of Antonio Cairoli, Michele Cervellin, and Alessandro Lupino. Taking the final spot on the podium was team Netherlands led by Jeffrey Herlings along with Calvin Vlaanderen and Glenn Coldenhoff.
The 72nd running of the event was one of the most successful ever as countless motocross fans from around the world joined the Americans on the Michigan hillsides. The atmosphere created at this year’s Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations was as unique as the event itself hosting riders and fans from over thirty countries. The world’s most passionate, energetic, and sometimes crazy motocross fans were one of the best parts of this year’s event providing an emotion packed day of racing.
A true pinnacle of the sport the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations puts the usually independent riders into a team setting against competitors never before face truly testing their adaptability, speed, and consistency over a challenging weekend. While each fan and nation had their favorites for the win it was one of the most competitive and deeply talented Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations fields ever. With pride on the line and patriotism in their hearts 30 teams entered the competition but the field narrowed to an even more competitive 20 this morning.
19 teams directly qualified out of yesterday’s warm up sessions but the 11 teams remaining had one last chance this morning via winning the B-Final. Bringing the crowd to their feet with their B-Final win was Team Puerto Rico’s Travis Pastrana, Kevin Windham, and Ryan Sipes.
Following the B-Final and a short break was an opening ceremony at the podium with motocross legends Ryan Villopoto, Jeff Stanton, Jeremy McGrath, John Dowd, Tim Ferry, Ricky Carmichael, Gary Semics, Ricky Johnson, Steve Stackable, Donnie Hanson, Billy Lies, Jeff Ward, Ron Lenchien, and Chuck Sun in his cowboy hat. The legends shared their most memorable racing moments including participating in the previous editions of the Motocross of Nations before the microphones were handed over for speeches from Youthstream Vice President David Luongo, Monster Energy Vice President of Sports Marketing Mitch Covington, FIM/CMS Director Tony Skillington, President of AMA Rob Dingman, and United States Congressman Fred Upton.
Following the speeches and tradition yelling of “RedBuuuuud” the United States national anthem was sang to open the event! As the crowd and fireworks erupted in the background the riders MXGP and MX2 of MXoN Race 1 went out on track for their sighting lap.
The first team to line up for Race 1 was Saturday’s top qualifier, the Netherlands. MXGP rider Jeffrey Herlingstook full advantage of the start by scoring the Fox Holeshot after the better jump off the gate from Italy’s Antonio Cairoli was thrown away when he slid out in the first turn.
Team Spain’s MX2 rider Jorge Prado was right behind Herlings in second but took over the lead before the first lap was complete when the Dutchman slid out. France’s Gautier Paulin took over second ahead of Canada’s Colton Facciotti. Herlings got back up and on track in 5th behind Australia’s Hunter Lawrence while the American’s of Eli Tomac and Aaron Plessinger ran in 10th and 9th.
Herlings was quick to make passes through and at the start of the first official lap was up to 3rd as Lawrence also moved up to 4th. Paulin’s French Teammate Dylan Ferrandis was riding well in 6th but lost the spot to Great Britain’s Tommy Searle at the end of the second lap.
America’s Tomac was moving forward from 10th and by lap 3 he was up to 6th but his teammate Plessinger was dropping as far back as 21st. Meanwhile the 2018 MX2 World Champion Prado led but Herlings came up quickly one past Paulin for second. On lap 8 Herlings took the lead from Prado but his Dutch teammate Vlaanderen was out of the race.
By the finish Tomac worked his way up to 4th just behind MX2 rider Prado while Cairoli came from his first turn crash to 6th but Plessinger only recovered to 18th place. Herlings took the race win by 25 seconds over Paulin, 31 second ahead of Prado and 40 seconds ahead of Tomac. The results of the two riders in race 1 put France in the lead of the nations standings with a combined 9 points, 7 better than Italy in second and 9 better then Belgium in third.

The second race was the combined riders of MX2 and Open which saw the Netherlands going to line first again with Glenn Coldenhoff but this time no Clavin Vlaanderen after his injury from race 1 made it impossible to continue.
Down a rider Coldenhoff made the most of the situation for the Dutch team taking the Fox Holeshot and leading the again impressive MX2 rider Jorge Prado. Team Great Britain’s Ben Watson was up in third and leading Team Switzerland’s Jeremy Seewer while the American’s again struggled.
Justin Barcia was in 16th and Plessinger was in 18th on the first lap Barcia worked his way up to 9th by lap 9 as Coldenhoff still led Prado and Watson. Plessinger on the other hand only gained two positions throughout the entire race to finish 16th.
The Aussie MX2 rider Hunter Lawrence was pressuring Seewer as early as lap 2 but finally found his way past the Swiss rider on lap 7. 6 laps later Lawrence passed Watson for 3rd before finally moving into second ahead of Prado on the next to last lap.
Coldenhoff took the race win for the Netherlands ahead of Lawrence, Prado, Watson, and Seewer. Team France’s Ferrandis and Tixier scored 8th and 32nd as Tixier’s bike expire while Barcia made no further moves to take 9th. The 2-3 scores of Prado crowned him the MX2 overall winner while Team Australia took the lead in the nations standings ahead of Belgium and Italy.

The final race of the day was the one that decided the 2018 winner with the combined classes of MXGP and Open racing one last time. On the start it was Italy’s Alessandro Lupino taking the Fox Holeshot ahead of Germany’s Ken Roczen and the Netherlands Glenn Coldenhoff.
Coldenhoff took second away from the German on the exit of the second corner before taking the lead from Lupino only a few corners later. Paulin moved into third as Herlings came from a poor start to pass both Roczen and Paulin in one lap.
Coming forward with Herlings was Antonio Cairoli but the Italian got held up by Paulin as Herling took 2nd from Lupino. After looking for a way by Paulin for 3 laps Cairoli moved to 4th but then both he and Paulin were passed by Germany’s Max Nagl.
Nagl fell afterwards to 7th however but Cairoli was only 4th for a lap as Paulin took the spot back then went on to pass Lupino. 2 laps before the finish Lupino and Cairoli swapped positions as Coldenhoff went 1-1 with Herlings in second and Paulin 3rd.
The strong races and class overall wins from both Coldenhoff and Herlings however were not enough to make up for the absence of Vlaanderen and the consistency of team France who took their 5th successive Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations win, the 6th in their country’s history.
