Intervista by Ryan Introvigne
Le vacanze sono passate, il mondiale è praticamente finito, ma le interviste del nostro Ryan proseguono con Max Anstie, un pilota molto forte quando gira tutto per il verso giusto, vincitore di molte gare, eccovi alcune curiosità!

Ciao Max, raccontaci del tuo GP delle Americhe. Com’è andata?
Charlotte non è stata la mia miglior giornata di gara, abbiamo faticato con il setting, ci sono mancate le prove del sabato. Penso di aver sbagliato già dal setting iniziale che abbiamo utilizzato. In gara 1 mi sentivo meglio ed ho fatto una bella partenza ma son caduto subito al primo giro, dovendo così recuperare dal fondo. Gara 2 è stata strana, mi sentivo veramente male sia durante che dopo la gara. Penso non fosse nulla di serio, magari un pò di acqua sporca che mi ha fatto male.
Ti è piaciuta la pista?
La pista era ok ma non come quelle a cui siamo abituati noi europei. Inoltre avevamo molto jet-lag e correre di notte ha solo peggiorato le cose. Anche le luci non erano granché. In Qatar sembrava tutto più luminoso.
I piloti statunitensi hanno abbastanza dominato entrambe le classi, Tomac con un 1-1 e Webb ha battuto Jeffrey. Te lo aspettavi?
Si beh per la maggior parte degli europei la priorità è il campionato, non battagliare o prendere rischi non necessari con piloti che non dobbiamo battere. Non poter utilizzare il sabato per mettere a punto le moto, il cambio di fuso orario e il correre di notte hanno messo a dura prova noi europei. Comunque non si può togliere nulla dalla prestazione dei ragazzi americani, sono davvero grandi piloti. Penso che il top in America ed il top in Europa, nei loro rispettivi campionati e nelle loro rispettive piste rappresentino l’elite mondiale dello sport.
Pensi che vedremo risultati differenti a Glen Helen, la pista forse più iconica e naturale del mondo?
Spero di si…almeno in MX2!
Grande lotta per il 3rzo posto in Campionato tra te e Paturel. Solo otto punti vi separano.
Si Paturel è stato grande per tutto l’anno. Dopo aver finito la scorsa stagione con un brutto infortunio alla schiena ed al collo, tutto quello che speravo era finire il 2016 nella top 5! Ed essere in lotta per il terzo posto è fantastico. Sicuramente mi sarebbe piaciuto finire il mio ultimo anno in MX2 con il botto ma visto come sono andate le cose, sono in una buona posizione per passare in MXGP.
Che voto daresti alla tua stagione? 2 vittorie di GP e 4 vittorie di manche.
La stagione è stata dura ma arrivando da un infortunio importante, dovendo abituarmi alla nuova moto ed al nuovo team, penso che sia stata un successo e sono positivo per la prossima stagione.
La prossima stagione passerai in MXGP. Come ti senti sulla 450?
Inizierò a guidare la 450 un pò dopo il Nazioni, quando Jacky Martens mi darà il via libera per iniziare col 450 ICE ONE.
Hai già un contratto per il prossimo?
ICE ONE per due anni.
Farai parte del Team GB al MXON alla fine di questo mese. Pensi che il podio sia possibile? Ti piace la pista?
Il Nazioni è un grande evento e tutto quello che posso sperare è che vada meglio dell’anno scorso!! Penso che abbiamo un buon team, vedremo. La pista a Maggiora è cool e mi impegnerò per fare delle belle gare.

Hi Max, tell us about this MXGP of Americas. How was it for you?
Charlotte wasn’t the best day of racing, we struggled with our settings a little as we missed out on the Saturday. I feel I went the wrong direction with our set up to start with. By Moto 1 I felt better and got a solid start but went down on lap one so had to work hard from the back. Moto 2 was a weird one, I was really sick during the race and after, don’t think it was anything serious I think it was some dodgey water or something.
Did you like the track?
The track was ok but not what the Europeans are used to. Also we were all very jet lagged and racing at night only made that worse. Also the lights were not that great. In Qatar it seems much brighter.
U.S. riders pretty much dominated both classes, Tomac with double moto win and Webb beating Jeffrey. Did you expect that?
Yeah well for the European main guys the priority is championship not going all out for a win or a battle where they can take unnecessary risk with some guys that we don’t have to beat. Without a Saturday to dial the bikes in to the track and it also being a night race with the Europeans all not in the right time zone it took the edge out of the euro guys. But still you can’t take anything away from the US guys they are all really great riders. I feel the top in America and top in Europe on their type of championship and tracks are both at the top elite level of the sport.
Do you think we’ll see different results at Glen Helen, maybe the most iconic and natural track in the world?
I’m hoping so… At least in Mx2.
Big fight between you and Paturel for the 3rd place in the World Championship standings. Only eight points separate you from him.
Yeah Paturel has been great all year. From where I came from at the end of last season with a broken back and neck all I could hope for was to be somewhere inside the top 5 at this point! And to be in it close for top 3 is great. I know I would have like to gone out with a bang in my last year of MX2 but with how everything has progressed I’m in a strong place moving into mxgp.
How would you rate your season? 2 GP wins and 4 motos (Belgium and Switzerland).
The season was tough but with coming back from a big injury, learning a new team and bike I feel it has been a success and positive for next season.
Next season you’ll move to the MXGP. How do you feel on the bigger bike?
I will start riding the 450 some time after the nations when Jacky Martens says I can start on the 450 with ICE ONE
Do you have a contract for next year, maybe with the actual team Husqvarna or nothing signed yet?
Iceone for 2 years.
You will be part of Team GB for the MXON at the end of this month. Do you feel podium is possible? Do you like the track?
The nations is a great event and all I can hope for is a better one than last year!! I think we have a good team so we will see. The track is cool in Maggiora and I’ll make for some good racing.
