Motocross e Supercross legend, Ryan Villopoto annuncia il suo ritiro!!!

Vincitore di molteplici AMA Supercross e AMA Pro Motocross titoli, icona della Kawasaki Ryan Villopoto ha annunciato il suo ritiro.

A seguito di un incidente e le successive lesioni subite nella quarta prova del campionato in corso MXGP in Trentino, Italia, il 27enne pilota della Kawasaki ha preso la difficile decisione di cessare competere nello sport che lo ha visto elevato al rango di uno dei grandi di tutti i tempi, sia all’indoor che all’outdoor.

Il Primo titolo nazionale Villopoto è venuto su un KX125 agli AMA Amateur Campionati Nazionali nel 2005. Dopo lo ha visto passare al professionismo, ha continuato a spazzare tre consecutivi campionati AMA Motocross 2006-2008 nella classe 250, mentre sosteneva anche il campionato 2007 250SX AMA Supercross West Regional . Villopoto è uno dei soli quattro piloti ad aver vinto tre consecutivi 250 titoli di classe.

“Ryan si definisce con la parola campione”, ha detto Kawasaki Motors Corp. USA Vice Presidente Marketing Chris Brull. “Da quando ha iniziato con Kawasaki Green Team, Ryan ha messo la sua Kawasaki e spinto per essere migliore ogni anno. La sua dedizione alla sua arte ha pagato nei campionati che ha vinto, e gli sviluppi che abbiamo potuto fare in tutta la nostra linea di KX. Ryan sarà sempre una parte della famiglia Kawasaki e parlo per tutti in Kawasaki, gli auguro tutto il meglio nel suo ritiro “.

Una volta che si è trasferito alla KX450F, Villopoto ha vinto quattro titoli consecutivi Monster Energy AMA Supercross  2011-2014 mentre anche sostenendo due titoli AMA Pro Motocross (2011, 2013.) nove AMA campionati nazionali professionali, Villopoto lo colloca secondo nel libro dei record dietro solo a Ricky Carmichael.

Prendendo la decisione col suo solito coraggio ed entrare nella serie MXGP quest’anno dopo una lunga e fortunata carriera in America, il pilota nato a Washington era in lizza durante la prima parte della stagione con un conseguente vittoria al GP Thailandia nel turno marzo.

Purtroppo l’incidente insolito in Italia ha comportato sia un infortunio al coccige e, dopo ulteriori indagini dettagliate, altri traumi alla sua parte bassa della schiena, che sono ancora in via di guarigione.

Raccogliendo i suoi pensieri sul pensionamento dopo una vita di sostegno da parte di Kawasaki e Monster Energy, Villopoto ha scritto una lettera aperta emotiva ai suoi migliaia di fan in tutto il mondo, che comprende i seguenti passi:

“Sono grato per aver avuto l’opportunità di fare qualcosa che ho amato sin da quando ero un ragazzino e farne il mio sostentamento. Sono grato per il sostegno della mia famiglia per tutti gli anni trascorsi insieme alle mie moto e girare nei campi gara, interrompendo la loro vita nel processo naturale. Sono grato per il sostegno dei miei tanti sponsor nel corso degli anni, in primo luogo la Kawasaki, che è stata la mia moto preferita da mia squadra Verde tutti i giorni. Sono stati con me attraverso alti e bassi, gravi lesioni e grandi successi. Kawasaki è un marchio che è sinonimo della mia carriera agonistica.

Sono grato di aver avuto la possibilità di correre con i migliori nel mondo, i miei concorrenti in Supercross e Motocross nonché in MXGP. Sono grato di sapere che la nostra competitività ha contribuito a continuare la crescita del nostro sport. “

Per Monster Energy, Mitch Covington, Vice Presidente di Sports Marketing ha aggiunto:

“Abbiamo sponsorizzato Ryan e il suo team per tutta la sua carriera. Dal 2006, Ryan è stato in grado di darci tutto ciò che abbiamo chiesto dentro e fuori la pista. Lui è un grande corridore che ha iniziato a costruire la sua leggenda la prima volta sulla griglia di partenza come un Pro. Non vediamo l’ora di vedere il prossimo capitolo della storia di Ryan Villopoto. ”

Mentre Ryan considera il suo futuro e riflette su una carriera di successo stellare, Kawasaki Motors Europe Direttore Sportivo, Steve Guttdrige, ha commentato il fenomeno Villopoto e ha ringraziato la stella per la sua grinta, l’impegno e l’impresa.

“Ryan ha portato un interesse reale per i Campionati del Mondo MXGP questa stagione che è stata incredibile per testimoniare ed essere una parte di se. E ‘un peccato che è stato in grado di competere solo i primi quattro turni perché onestamente credo che Ryan si era adattando bene al grande cambiamento di corsa intorno al mondo come è diventato più acclimatato ai diversi circuiti e gare formato MXGP.

Anche se il suo tempo in Europa, non è andato come previsto a causa della sfortunata ferita, tutti sul nostro team siamo orgogliosi di aver lavorato con Ryan e abbiamo tutti ottenuto una massiccia quantità di esperienza nel processo.

In seguito a tale decisione importante di carriera, Ryan sta valutando i suoi obiettivi e le ambizioni future. Gli auguriamo ogni bene per qualunque direzione scelga di prendere da questo punto in avanti ”

Motocross and Supercross legend, Ryan Villopoto announces his retirement

Winner of multiple AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross titles, Kawasaki icon Ryan Villopoto has announced his retirement.

Villopoto’s first national title came on a KX125 at the AMA Amateur National Championships in 2005. After turning pro, he went on to sweep three consecutive AMA Motocross championships from 2006-2008 in the 250 class while also claiming the 2007 250SX AMA Supercross West Regional championship. Villopoto is one of only four riders to ever win three consecutive 250 class titles.

“Ryan defines the word champion,” said Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A. Vice President of Marketing Chris Brull. “Since he started with Kawasaki on Team Green, Ryan has pushed himself and Kawasaki to be better every year. His dedication to his craft has paid off in the championships that he has won, and the developments we have been able to make throughout our KX line. Ryan will always be a part of the Kawasaki family and I speak for everyone at Kawasaki when I wish him all the best in his retirement.”

Once he moved up to the KX450F, Villopoto won four straight Monster Energy AMA Supercross titles from 2011-2014 while also claiming two AMA Pro Motocross titles (2011, 2013.) Villopoto’s nine professional AMA national championships places him second in the record books behind only Ricky Carmichael.
Taking the typically bold decision to enter the MXGP series this year after a long and successful career in America, the Washington born rider was in contention during the early part of the season resulting in a race win at the Thailand hosted round in March.
Unfortunately the uncharacteristic crash in Italy resulted in both an injury to his coccyx and, upon further detailed investigation, other traumas to his lower back which are still in the process of healing.

Gathering his thoughts on retirement after a lifetime of support from Kawasaki and Monster Energy, Villopoto has written an emotional open letter to his thousands of worldwide fans which includes the following passages:

“I am grateful for having had the opportunity to do something I have loved since I was a kid and make it into my livelihood. I am grateful for the support of my family for all the years they spent hauling my bikes and me around to races, interrupting their lives in the process. I am grateful for the support of my many sponsors through the years, first and foremost Kawasaki, which has been my bike of choice since my Team Green days. They have been with me through ups and downs, serious injuries and great successes. Kawasaki is a brand that is synonymous with my racing career.
I am grateful to have had the chance to race with the very best in world, my competitors in Supercross and Motocross as well as on MXGP. I am grateful to know that our competitiveness helped to continue the growth of our sport.”

While Ryan considers his future and reflects on a career of stellar success, Kawasaki Motors Europe Racing Manager, Steve Guttridge, commented on the Villopoto phenomenon and thanked the star for his grit, commitment and enterprise.

“Ryan brought a real buzz to the MXGP World Championships this season that was incredible to witness and be a part of. It’s such a shame that he was only able to compete at the first four rounds because I honestly believe that Ryan was adjusting well to the big change of racing around the world as he became more acclimatized to the different circuits and race format in MXGP’s.
Though his time in Europe did not go as planned due to the unfortunate injury, everyone on our team is proud to have worked with Ryan and we have all gained a massive amount of experience in the process.
