MONACO (Principato di Monaco) 29 maggio 2024 – Il Campionato mondiale FIM Motocross 2024 ritorna dopo un fine settimana libero per lanciarsi in un’altra serie di eventi di tre settimane, a partire da questo fine settimana con il Liqui Moly MXGP della Germania sul leggendario circuito Talkessel di Teutschenthal!
La compatta valle tedesca ha ospitato ben 26 eventi MXGP nella sua storia, il primo dei quali nel 1971. Il vincitore quel giorno fu la stella Suzuki Joel Robert, sulla strada per il quinto dei suoi sei titoli mondiali in carriera. Non siamo tornati al Talkessel fino al 1993, quando un pilota che porta il nome del grande Robert, Joel Smets, vinse il primo dei suoi 57 Gran Premi in carriera sulla sua tonante Husaberg.
La sede è stata inserita nel calendario MXGP ogni anno dal 1999, a parte il 2013, quando ha ospitato invece il Motocross delle Nazioni, e la stagione 2020, colpita dalla pandemia. Antonio Cairoli detiene il record per il maggior numero di Gran Premi vinti sul circuito con cinque, accumulando anche il maggior numero di vittorie in gare individuali con nove. Tutti e quattro i principali contendenti della MXGP hanno visto il successo a Teutschenthal. La classe MX2 vede la più grande speranza del pubblico di casa per un vincitore tedesco, con Simon Laengenfelder attualmente al secondo posto in classifica per il Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing.
I piloti che si sono schierati al Motocross delle Nazioni del 2013 e che correranno ancora nel 2024 includono due membri del team svizzero quel giorno, Jeremy Seewer del Kawasaki Racing Team e il pilota del Team Ship to Cycle Honda Motoblouz SR Valentin Guillod. Quel giorno era presente anche Glenn Coldenhoff, sostenitore della Fantic Factory Racing, anche se dei tre solo Guillod è entrato nella top ten.
Il campionato EMX250 tornerà per il quinto round, con Mathis Valin che fissa la tabella rossa sulla sua Kawasaki Bud Racing dopo il GP di casa, e ora guida davanti a Cas Valk, che è a 23 punti da Gabriel SS24 KTM, con il precedente leader Valerio Lata. scendendo al terzo posto per Beddini GASGAS Factory Juniors dopo aver segnato solo 8 punti a St, Jean d’Angely.
Teutschenthal dà il benvenuto anche al Campionato mondiale di motocross femminile FIM, tornato per la prima volta dal 2018, quando Courtney Duncan vinse! L’eroina di casa Larissa Papenmeier ha vinto lì due volte in passato e farà affidamento sul supporto locale per risalire dal 7° posto nella serie. Kiara Fontanesi, vincitrice nel 2015, è terza in classifica dietro alla coppia adolescente composta da Lotte van Drunen, che porterà la tabella rossa per De Baets Yamaha, e alla stella di RFME GASGAS Factory Juniors Daniela Guillen, che è a soli nove punti di distacco mentre raggiungere il giro di boa della serie, essendo questo il quarto round dei sette per WMX nel 2024.

La corsa al titolo MXGP 2024 si sta rivelando il classico assoluto che lo straordinario schieramento aveva promesso all’inizio dell’anno. I due precedenti campioni del mondo MXGP, Tim Gajser del Team HRC e Jorge Prado per la Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, sono a soli cinque punti di distanza in cima alla classifica dopo che lo sloveno ha vinto il Monster Energy MXGP di Francia, mentre Romain Febvre è a soli 24 punti. più indietro per il Kawasaki Racing Team dopo aver lottato coraggiosamente contro l’infortunio al pollice riportato nelle prove libere.
Jeffrey Herlings del team Red Bull KTM Factory Racing è ora quarto nella serie e a 61 punti dal leader, dopo aver vinto gara due a St Jean d’Angely. Con le previsioni del tempo che mostrano più pioggia possibile per la Liqui Moly MXGP della Germania, Herlings potrebbe essere l’uomo da battere sul circuito tedesco.
Tra gli attivi MXGP, Gajser ha vinto di più a Teutschenthal, conquistando il trofeo MX2 nel suo primo anno di titolo nel 2015, oltre alle vittorie MXGP nel 2019, ’21 e ’22. Herlings e Prado ne hanno vinti tre ciascuno al Talkessel, con l’attuale campione che ha vinto il premio la scorsa stagione. Febvre ha ottenuto una sola vittoria assoluta lì, vincendo la classe MXGP nel 2015. Anche il suo compagno di squadra del 2024 Jeremy Seewer ha vinto nella MX2 nel 2017.
Con un elenco di 43 piloti, dovrebbe esserci un cancello pieno in MXGP, con una grande ondata di wildcard locali che sperano di esibirsi bene davanti al pubblico solitamente numeroso e chiassoso! Tom Koch è il tedesco più in alto nella classifica del Team KTM Kosak, e anche il team Schmicker Racing si godrà il Gran Premio di casa con i suoi piloti Corneliues Toendel e Adam Sterry.
La lotta è ancora viva nella MXGP, sia sul finale che in quella che sarà sicuramente una valle affollata, sia dentro che fuori pista!
La classe MX2 ha offerto alcune gare sfrenate nel 2024, con i primi sei piloti in classifica che hanno tutti vinto una gara sabato o domenica, e finora le vittorie nei Gran Premi sono andate a ondate, con Kay de Wolf che ha conquistato i primi tre per Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, Liam Everts i successivi due per la Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, poi il compagno di squadra di De Wolf, Lucas Coenen, agli ultimi due round. La costanza di De Wolf lo ha visto allungare di 52 punti di vantaggio nel campionato, e il grande favorito di casa Simon Laengenfelder è il prossimo pilota, segnando bene in ogni gara tranne la seconda in Portogallo, dove è caduto e si è rotto la clavicola .
Lottando con la placca per l’infortunio del Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, la sua velocità è aumentata di nuovo e cercherà di sfruttare al massimo il supporto di casa con il volume della valle che sicuramente aumenterà con ogni passo in avanti che farà! Le due vittorie di Lucas Coenen lo hanno visto risalire al terzo posto, a soli 7 punti dal tedesco.
Everts e il suo compagno di squadra Andrea Adamo, il campione in carica della classe, sono quarto e quinto, con l’altro vincitore, Thibault Benistant del Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2, purtroppo probabilmente fuori per la Germania dopo essersi fatto male alla schiena in un grosso incidente a Francia.
Everts ha ottenuto la vittoria assoluta a Teutschenthal lo scorso anno, anche se ha avuto un po’ di fortuna poiché Lucas Coenen ha subito la rottura della catena mentre era in testa a gara due, dopo aver dominato la prima. Sia De Wolf che Laengenfelder hanno subito infortuni prima dell’evento dello scorso anno, quindi con i primi cinque tutti in salute, il Liqui Moly MXGP della Germania potrebbe rivelarsi altrettanto imprevedibile come ogni altro round quest’anno!

MXGP IS BACK FOR MORE AT TEUTSCHENTHAL FOR THE LIQUI MOLY MXGP OF GERMANY
MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 29 May 2024 – The 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship returns after a weekend off to launch into another three-week run of events, beginning this weekend with the Liqui Moly MXGP of Germany at the legendary Talkessel circuit of Teutschenthal!
The compact German valley has hosted a massive 26 MXGP events in its history, with its first being in 1971. The winner that day was Suzuki star Joel Robert, on his way to the fifth of his six career world titles. We didn’t return to the Talkessel until 1993, when a rider named after the great Robert, Joel Smets, won the first of his 57 career Grands Prix on his thundering Husaberg.
The venue has been on the MXGP calendar every year since 1999, apart from 2013, when it hosted the Motocross of Nations instead, and the pandemic-affected season of 2020. Antonio Cairoli holds the record for the most Grand Prix wins at the circuit with five, amassing the most individual race wins as well with nine. All four of the leading MXGP contenders have seen success in Teutschenthal. The MX2 class sees the home crowd’s biggest hope for a German winner, with Simon Laengenfelder currently sitting second in the points for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing.
Riders who lined up at the 2013 Motocross of Nations and will still race in 2024 include two of the Swiss team that day, Jeremy Seewer of the Kawasaki Racing Team, and Team Ship to Cycle Honda Motoblouz SR rider Valentin Guillod. Fantic Factory Racing stalwart Glenn Coldenhoff was also there that day, although from the three, only Guillod got into the top ten.
The EMX250 Championship will return for their fifth round, with Mathis Valin bolting the red plate onto his Bud Racing Kawasaki after his home GP, and he now leads from Cas Valk, who is 23 points behind for Gabriel SS24 KTM, with previous leader Valerio Lata dropping to third for Beddini GASGAS Factory Juniors after scoring only 8 points at St, Jean d’Angely.
Teutschenthal also welcomes the FIM Women’s World Motocross Championship, back for the first time since 2018, when Courtney Duncan took the victory! Home heroine Larissa Papenmeier has won there twice in the past, and she will lean on the local support to lift her from 7th in the series. Kiara Fontanesi, winner in 2015, is third in the points behind the flying teenage pair of Lotte van Drunen, who will carry the red plate for De Baets Yamaha, and RFME GASGAS Factory Juniors star Daniela Guillen, who is only nine points behind as they reach the halfway point of the series, this being round four of seven for WMX in 2024.
The 2024 MXGP title race is proving to be the absolute classic that the dazzling line-up promised at the start of the year. The previous two MXGP World Champions, Team HRC’s Tim Gajser and Jorge Prado for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, are just five points apart at the top of the standings after the Slovenian won the Monster Energy MXGP of France, while Romain Febvre sits just 24 points further back for the Kawasaki Racing Team after bravely fighting through a thumb injury sustained in Free Practice.
Jeffrey Herlings of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team is now fourth in the series and 61 points behind the leader, after winning race two at St Jean d’Angely. With the weather forecast showing more rain possible for the Liqui Moly MXGP of Germany, Herlings could be the man to beat at the German circuit.
Of the active MXGP field, Gajser has won the most at Teutschenthal, taking the MX2 trophy in his first title year of 2015, plus MXGP victories in 2019, ’21, and ’22. Herlings and Prado have each won three at the Talkessel, with the current Champion taking the honours last season. Febvre has only one overall win there, taking the MXGP class in 2015. His 2024 teammate Jeremy Seewer also won in MX2 back in 2017.
With a 43-rider entry list there should be a full gate in MXGP, with a large swell of local wildcards hoping to perform well in front of the usually large and raucous crowd! Tom Koch is the highest-placed German in the standings for the KTM Kosak Team, and the Schmicker Racing team will also be enjoying its home Grand Prix with its riders Corneliues Toendel and Adam Sterry.
The fight is well and truly still on in MXGP, both at the sharp end and throughout what is sure to be a crowded valley, both on and off the track!

The MX2 class has provided some wild racing in 2024, with the first six riders in the standings all taking a race win on either Saturday or Sunday, and so far the Grand Prix victories have gone in waves, with Kay de Wolf taking the first three for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, Liam Everts the next two for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, then De Wolf’s teammate Lucas Coenen taking the most recent two rounds. De Wolf’s consistency has seen him stretch out a 52-point lead in the Championship, and the big home favourite Simon Laengenfelder is the next rider along, scoring well in every race apart from the second one in Portugal, where he crashed and broke his collarbone.
Struggling on with plating over the injury for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, his speed has been climbing again, and he will be looking to make the most of the home support with the volume of the valley sure to rise with every move forward he makes! Lucas Coenen’s two wins have seen him rise back to third, just 7 points behind the German.
Everts and his teammate Andrea Adamo, the reigning Champion in the class, are fourth and fifth, with the other winner, Thibault Benistant of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2, sadly likely to be out for Germany after hurting his back in a big crash in France.
Everts took the overall win at Teutschenthal last year, although he had a slight piece of fortune as Lucas Coenen suffered a broken chain whilst leading race two, after dominating the first. Both De Wolf and Laengenfelder suffered injuries before last year’s event, so with the top five all healthy, the Liqui Moly MXGP of Germany could prove just as unpredictable as every other round this year!
