Dal 2025 Bimota torna nel WorldSBK
L’iconica casa motociclistica italiana Bimota tornerà sulla scena mondiale nel 2025 gareggiando nel Campionato Motul FIM WorldSBK.
24 Aprile – La storia di Bimota affonda le sue radici nelle corse, vittoriosa nel Campionato 350cc del 1980 con Jon Ekerold su una Bimota YB3 bicilindrica a due tempi e nel 1987 durante il TT Formula 1 trionfante con la leggenda Virginio Ferrari in sella di una YB4R. Successivamente, con i quattro tempi, Bimota vince sette gare nel primissimo Campionato del Mondo Superbike del 1988, rispettivamente con Davide Tardozzi (5) e Stephane Mertens (2). Ancora nel 2000, Bimota ottiene una vittoria durante la gara del WorldSBK grazie al compianto Anthony Gobert, che a bordo di una SB8R sale sul gradino più alto del podio in un weekend di gara bagnato a Phillip Island.
Per la stagione 2025, Bimota e Kawasaki stanno lavorando intensamente per sviluppare una moto con ciclistica Bimota equipaggiata con il motore della ZX-10RR e le tecnologie Kawasaki.
La collaborazione con il marchio di Akashi non si fermerà qui: molti membri dello staff ufficiale Kawasaki Racing Team, dopo quasi quattro decenni nel principale campionato mondiale delle derivate di serie, trasferiranno le loro conoscenze e il loro impegno nel programma racing di Bimota, operando sotto il nome di Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team.
Oltre all’eredità nel campionato iridato, andrà sempre più a crearsi una sinergia tra Kawasaki e il produttore italiano con sede a Rimini. Il nuovo Team svolgerà un ruolo fondamentale anche nella visibilità globale e nella presenza sul mercato del marchio Bimota, mettendo in risalto l’artigianalità e la cura per la creazione di ogni prodotto Bimota. L’aspettativa è che con questa operazione nel racing, si crei anche un aumento della domanda e quindi delle vendite di motociclette stradali Bimota.
Parlando della nuova direzione di Kawasaki nel WorldSBK, il Presidente e Amministratore Delegato di Kawasaki Motors, Ltd. Hiroshi Ito, ha dichiarato:
“Bimota ha una reputazione invidiabile per l’eccellenza nella progettazione e la produzione di motociclette. Nell’ambito della nostra visione per l’evoluzione di questo marchio di fama mondiale, vediamo le corse come un logico passo successivo, sia in termini di sviluppo del prodotto, che di esposizione del marchio sulla scena globale. Il nostro impegno nel WorldSBK è più forte che mai e speriamo che questo nuovo progetto racing possa dare energia e nuova linfa sia ai fan di Bimota sia a quelli di Kawasaki. La passione per il successo nelle gare rimane e non vediamo l’ora di vedere il Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team sulla griglia del WorldSBK 2025”.

Ora, dopo che Kawasaki ha gareggiato per quasi quattro decenni nel campionato Superbike, siamo orgogliosi di far parte di una nuova era che getta le basi della nuova Bimota del BbK Racing Team.

Bimota returns to WorldSBK in 2025
The iconic Italian motorcycle manufacturer Bimota is set to return to the world racing stage in 2025 competing in the Motul FIM WorldSBK Championship.
Winners of the 1980 350cc World Championship fielding Jon Ekerold on a two-cylinder, two stroke Bimota YB3 machine, success was also achieved in TT Formula 1 with legend Virginio Ferrari aboard a YB4R taking the Championship honours in1987. No strangers to four stroke machinery, Bimota won no less than seven races in the very first World Superbike Championship year of 1988 thanks to Davide Tardozzi (5) and Stephane Mertens (2). Even as late as the year 2000, Bimota were still able to achieve a WorldSBK race win thanks to the late, great Anthony Gobert aboard an SB8R machine mounting the top step of the podium at a wet Phillip Island race weekend.
For the 2025 season, Bimota is partnering with Kawasaki in a joint venture which will result in a Bimota chassis with Kawasaki engine (plus allied technology), competing in WorldSBK. Not only will the donor Ninja ZX-10RR powerplant be familiar, but also many of the team staff as Kawasaki transfers its efforts into the Bimota racing program marking a landmark moment in the journey of the Kawasaki Racing Team after nearly four decades in the premier global racing series based on production machines that can be purchased at dealerships.
Recognising not just the legacy of Kawasaki in Superbike racing, but also the close cooperation and synergies between majority Bimota shareholder, Kawasaki, and the Rimini based Italian manufacturer, the new team will operate under the title of Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team.
Fielding a machine jointly developed by Bimota and Kawasaki, the new team will play a pivotal role in the wider global recognition and market presence of the Bimota brand as well as being crucial in highlighting the hand built craftsmanship and care that goes into the creation of every Bimota product. This wider appreciation of the Bimota brand and its core racing DNA is also expected to create increased demand and sales of Bimota street motorcycles.
