Weekend positivo in trentino con Gajser che recupera le posizioni di vertice
Tim Gajser del Team HRC ha realizzato tre solide manche nel corso di questo MXGP del Trentino per ridurre il divario in testa al Campionato del mondo MXGP 2024 a soli 13 punti. Lo sloveno ha confermato il suo secondo posto nella gara di qualificazione di ieri per arrivare a due-quattro e al terzo posto assoluto, estendendo la sua serie di podi a quattro.
In gara uno, un bel salto dalla traiettoria lo ha visto girare la curva in una posizione decente, nonostante fosse costretto a sbattere contro il muro interno della prima curva. Ha fatto rapidamente le mosse necessarie e quando hanno attraversato il giro per la prima volta, era al terzo posto. Sapendo che non poteva permettersi di lasciare scappare i primi due, ha lanciato una carica e quando hanno superato la metà del percorso, è passato al secondo posto. Nonostante uno sforzo disperato, tagliando il traguardo a soli 0,3 secondi dal leader, ha dovuto accontentarsi del secondo posto e concentrarsi sulla seconda manche, sapendo che una vittoria lo avrebbe visto salire sul gradino più alto del podio.
Sfortunatamente, è rimasto coinvolto in una carneficina alla prima curva ed è rimasto a malapena su due ruote. Molto in fondo al gruppo e sapendo di avere molto lavoro da fare, ha tagliato ancora una volta il gruppo nei primi due giri per salire al sesto posto. Un giro dopo era quinto e dopo un errore di un pilota davanti è passato al quarto posto. Cercando di spingere al massimo, non è riuscito a compiere i movimenti necessari e si è dovuto accontentare del quarto posto, che gli è valso il terzo gradino del podio, per la gioia delle migliaia di sloveni che avevano oltrepassato il confine e stavano sostenendo il loro eroe.
Il compagno di squadra Roan van de Moosdijk era assente dall’azione dopo aver deciso di ritirarsi dalla MXGP. Dopo la gara di qualificazione di ieri, è apparso evidente che il pilota olandese soffriva troppo per poter guidare al 100% e per questo ha deciso che sarebbe stato meglio non schierarsi. Ora tornerà a casa per vedere uno specialista ed elaborare un piano d’azione basato su questi risultati.
Con due fine settimana liberi, entrambi i piloti hanno tutto il tempo per prepararsi per quella che sarà una dura serie di tre gare in tre settimane. Il primo sarà il Portogallo il 4-5 maggio, prima che la serie si trasferisca in una nuova sede a Lugo, in Spagna, una settimana dopo. Il triplo incontro si conclude poi con il ritorno sulla magnifica pista di St Jean D’Angely in Francia, che attira sempre un folto pubblico.

Sentivo che la mia guida era buona per la maggior parte, ma non sono riuscito a fare le partenze migliori, soprattutto in gara due e questo ha reso il mio lavoro davvero difficile. Quindi, due-quattro per il terzo posto assoluto è pur sempre un podio, ma volevo davvero salire sul gradino più alto per me, per la squadra e per tutti i tifosi che mi hanno supportato questo fine settimana. È stato fantastico vedere così tante persone uscire e mi sono perso questa gara l’anno scorso, quindi è stato davvero bello rivedere tutti. Ora abbiamo un paio di fine settimana per riorganizzarci e provare a ottenere quella vittoria che sento di essere vicino a ottenere.

Durante la notte ho preso la difficile decisione di ritirarmi dal GP. Non ho fatto una buona gara di qualificazione e conosco il mio corpo e semplicemente non mi sentivo bene, e sapevo che era simile a come mi sentivo nel pre-campionato e non andava bene per me. Adesso devo farlo controllare adeguatamente e una volta ottenute queste informazioni, decideremo come procedere. Un grande ringraziamento a tutto il Team HRC che mi ha aiutato nelle ultime due settimane e ha accettato la mia decisione in modo solidale.

È stato un fine settimana positivo in campionato perché abbiamo chiuso la classifica di pochi punti e questo è sempre positivo. Tim ha guidato davvero bene in tutte e tre le gare, facendo molti sorpassi su una pista stretta e difficile e può essere orgoglioso dello sforzo che ha fatto. Naturalmente, possiamo vedere che era un po’ deluso da come è andata la seconda manche, ma lavoreremo sulle cose nelle prossime due settimane e cercheremo di assicurarci che sia pronto per le tre gare di fila che ci aspettano.
È stata una notizia deludente per Roan, ma abbiamo visto che non è riuscito a rendere al 100% e speriamo che le notizie siano buone dopo il controllo di questa settimana. Da lì possiamo fare un piano su come affrontare il resto della stagione.

Positive Trentino weekend as Gajser closes gap at the top
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser put in three solid motos over the course of this MXGP of Trentino to close up the gap at the top of the 2024 MXGP World Championship to just 13 points. The Slovenian backed up his second place from yesterday’s qualification race to go two-four for third overall as he extended his podium streak to four.
In race one, a good jump off the line saw him rounding the corner in a decent position, despite being forced into the inside wall of the first turn. He quickly made the necessary moves and by the time they crossed the lap for the first time, he was into third place. Knowing that he couldn’t afford to let the front two get away, he put on a charge and as they passed the halfway mark, he made the move on second place. Despite a last-ditch effort, crossing the line just 0.3 seconds behind the leader, he had to be content with second place and focus on moto two, knowing that a victory would have saw him stand on the top step of the podium.
Unfortunately, he got caught up in some first-turn carnage and only just about stayed on two wheels. Way down the field and knowing he had a lot of work to do, he once again sliced through the field in the opening couple of laps to get up to sixth. A lap later he was in fifth and after a mistake from a rider in front he moved into fourth. Trying to push as much as possible, he couldn’t quite make the necessary moves and instead had to settle for fourth place, which gave him third step on the podium, much to the delight of the thousands of Slovenians who had crossed the border and were supporting their hero.
Teammate Roan van de Moosdijk was missing from the action after deciding to withdraw from the MXGP. After the qualification race yesterday, it became apparent that the Dutch rider was in too much pain, to be riding at 100% and as such, decided it would be better not to line-up. He will now travel home to see a specialist and work out a plan of action based upon those results.
With two weekends off now, there is plenty of time for both riders to prepare themselves for what will a tough run of three races in three weeks. First up is Portugal on May 4-5 before the series heads to a new venue in Lugo, Spain a week later. The triple-header is then rounded out with a return to the magnificent St Jean D’Angely track in France which always brings the crowds out in force.

I felt my riding was good for the most part, but I didn’t get the best starts, especially in race two and that really made my job difficult. So, two-four for third overall is still a podium but I really wanted to get on the top step for me, the team and for all the fans that supported me this weekend. It was great to see so many people coming out and I missed this race last year so it was really cool to see everyone again. Now we have a couple of weekends to re-group and try to get that victory that I feel like I’m close to achieving.

Overnight I made the difficult decision to pull out of the GP. I didn’t have a good qualification race and I know my body and it just wasn’t feeling right, and I knew it was similar to how I was feeling in the pre-season and that wasn’t good for me. Now I have to get it checked out properly and once we get that information, we will make a decision how to proceed. A big thank you to all of Team HRC who have helped me these past couple of weeks and accepted my decision in a supportive way.

A positive weekend in the championship as we closed up the table by a few points and that’s always a good thing. Tim rode really well over all three races, making a lot of passes on a tight, tricky track and he can be proud of the effort he put in. Of course, we can see he was a little disappointed with how the second moto went but we will work on things in these next couple of weeks and try to make sure he is ready to go for the three races in a row coming up.
It was disappointing news for Roan but we could see he wasn’t able to perform at 100% and we hope that the news will be good after the check-up this week. From there we can make a plan for how we approach the rest of the season.
