Vlaanderen sale al settimo posto in Sardegna
Calvin Vlaanderen di Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP ha mantenuto il suo inizio forte e coerente nel Campionato del mondo MXGP 2024 con il settimo posto assoluto al terzo round della serie a Riola Sardo, in Sardegna.
Un ottimo inizio in gara uno ha permesso a Vlaanderen di ottenere un risultato positivo nello stesso luogo in cui si è assicurato la sua vittoria di debutto in MXGP nel 2022. Effettuare più sorpassi al primo giro ha portato il sudafricano al quarto posto dove è rimasto fino al quarto giro quando era retrocesso da Jeffrey Herlings. Un piccolo incidente qualche giro dopo ha fermato quello che sembrava destinato a essere un risultato solido, con il pilota della Yamaha YZ450FM che alla fine ha ottenuto il settimo posto.
Presentandosi per Gara due con una strategia chiara, Vlaanderen si è concentrato sulla realizzazione di giri costanti e sulla riduzione al minimo degli errori. Capace di mettere in atto il suo piano pre-gara, il 27enne ha concluso al sesto posto assoluto e ora sale al settimo posto nella classifica del campionato.
Ad unirsi al team Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP per l’MXGP della Sardegna era il campione in carica della Coppa del mondo FIM Sand Races, Todd Kellett. Non estraneo alle corse sulla sabbia, l’inglese ha migliorato la sua gara uno 21esimo per segnare punti in gara due con il suo 16esimo posto finale.
Il Campionato mondiale FIM Motocross 2024 torna ora nell’Europa continentale e a Pietramurata in Italia per l’MXGP del Trentino il 13 e 14 aprile.

“Sono un po’ deluso dal mio fine settimana. Vengo sempre qui con grandi aspettative dopo aver vinto qui in passato. Sapevo che non sarebbe stato facile, soprattutto perché la pista era davvero accidentata e il clima era molto caldo, ma era lo stesso per tutti là fuori. È un peccato per la caduta in gara uno perché mi ha spinto molto indietro e ho perso il ritmo. Per Gara due volevo solo raggiungere i miei obiettivi e fare giri costanti ed è quello che ho fatto. Sto ottenendo buoni punti ogni fine settimana e questo è davvero importante, quindi ora il prossimo fine settimana tocca al Trentino”.

“È stata un’esperienza incredibile qui in Sardegna. Innanzitutto, voglio solo ringraziare enormemente tutto il team per questa opportunità. È stato un po’ frustrante cadere in entrambe le gare oggi, ma nel complesso è stato davvero un buon fine settimana”.

Vlaanderen Charges to Seventh in Sardinia
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Calvin Vlaanderen maintained his strong and consistent start to the 2024 MXGP World Championship with seventh overall at round three of the series in Riola Sardo, Sardinia.
A strong start in race one set Vlaanderen up for a positive result at the same venue in which he secured his debut MXGP victory in 2022. Making multiple passes on lap one moved the South African up to fourth where he remained until lap four when he was demoted by Jeffrey Herlings. A small crash a few laps later halted what looked set to be a solid result, with the Yamaha YZ450FM rider ultimately claiming seventh.
Lining up for race two with a clear strategy, Vlaanderen focused on delivering consistent laps and keeping any mistakes to a minimum. Able to execute his pre-race plan, the 27-year-old finished sixth for seventh overall and now moves up to seventh in the championship standings.
Joining the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team for the MXGP of Sardegna was reigning FIM Sand Races World Cup Champion, Todd Kellett. No stranger to racing on sand, the Brit improved upon his race one 21st to score points in race two with his 16th place finish.
The 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship now heads to back to mainland Europe and to Pietramurata in Italy for the MXGP of Trentino on April 13th and 14th.

“I’m a little disappointed about my weekend. I always come here with high expectations after winning here in the past. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, especially as the track was really rough and the weather was really hot, but it was the same for everyone out there. It was a pity about my crash in race one as it pushed me back a lot and I lost my rhythm. For race two, I just wanted to hit my marks and ride consistent laps and that’s what I did. I’m scoring good points every weekend and that’s really important so now it’s on to Trentino next weekend.”
