La prospettiva Supercross
Una delle stagioni più attese del Monster Energy Supercross Championship prenderà il via ad Anaheim sabato sera(Domanica all’alba in Italia), caratterizzata da un who’s who dei campioni attuali e passati nel tentativo di iniziare le loro campagne 2024 nella forma più forte possibile. Durante la conferenza stampa pre-campionato di ieri sera, un’ampia gamma di contendenti chiave condivideranno le loro aspettative per il round di apertura e per la prossima stagione.

Chase Sexton (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing):
È stato davvero divertente, molto diverso rispetto agli ultimi due anni: salire su una nuova moto, doverlo imparare e anche avere a che fare con una nuova squadra. È bello incontrare nuove persone, conoscevo abbastanza la maggior parte dei ragazzi, ma lavorare con loro è diverso e, come ho detto, è stato divertente e molto diverso. Abbiamo lavorato e lavorato, quindi siamo dove vogliamo essere in questo momento e non vedo l’ora che arrivi domani sera, con la nostra prima gara alle spalle. Non sappiamo davvero dove siamo, quindi questa è la parte emozionante di questa gara. Imparare una nuova moto e gareggiare con una nuova moto è la parte divertente, ma anche stressante. Sono pronto per la sfida… dobbiamo continuare a costruire per tutta la serie.
Ken Roczen (Progressive Ecstar Suzuki):
Abbiamo dedicato molte ore per cercare di migliorare e mi sono sentito il più rilassato che abbia mai provato andando ad Anaheim. Sto trattando questa stagione con il massimo rispetto perché abbiamo un campo davvero, davvero pieno e nel complesso sono in una posizione molto diversa rispetto agli anni passati. So anche che puoi vincere o salire sul podio un fine settimana, ma finire decimo un’altra settimana. Mi sento molto, molto meglio sulla moto e posso concentrarmi sulle corse piuttosto che sulla moto e su ciò che dobbiamo cambiare. Non c’è niente di nuovo in realtà, sono davvero entusiasta di ricominciare.
Jett Lawrence (Team Honda HRC):
Sono grato di essere dove sono adesso, ho lavorato sodo per essere qui, quindi sono entusiasta di essere finalmente qui. Non vedo l’ora che inizi la stagione, dovrebbe essere buona per me, sono entusiasta di saperne di più e di arrivare lì.
Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing):
Mi sento come se fossi nella stessa posizione dell’anno scorso ed è così che è andata bene per me. Era una grande incognita, sono tornato in sella per la prima volta in ottobre, ed è stato allora che ho iniziato. L’obiettivo era quello di partecipare al supercross e ho centrato il mio obiettivo, quindi è stata una navigazione abbastanza fluida. Questo infortunio è stato spaventoso, ma penso che con la nostra attrezzatura e il modo in cui ti siedi su una moto, puoi superare questo infortunio entro sei mesi e esibirti. Mi sento come se fossi al livello dell’anno scorso, diciamo a gennaio, quindi siamo pronti.
Jason Anderson (Monster Energy Kawasaki):
Ovviamente la nostra nuova moto e il nuovo telaio sono a un livello superiore. Detto tra me e AC, penso che abbiamo avuto feedback davvero positivi sulla pista di prova, ma è un po’ diverso nei giorni di gara. Mi sento bene e sono pronto a vedere cosa succederà: spero di essere vicino ai primi e di non avere troppi problemi, ma non si sa mai cosa succede.
Jorge Prado (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing):
È bello essere qui perché sarà un sogno diventato realtà correre sotto le luci. Sono super felice di essere qui e quasi pronto a guidare. Penso che abbiamo fatto del nostro meglio con il poco tempo che avevamo per prepararci per le gare e sono emozionato perché fin da quando ero bambino ho sempre guardato questi ragazzi. Vediamo come va, sarà la prima volta che gareggio in Supercross. Mi sento molto a mio agio con la moto, mi permette di avere un buon ritmo e sono molto contento: abbiamo fatto un buon lavoro con la squadra. Non è facile quando corri a tempo pieno in Europa e chiedi di venire a fare qualche gara, ma loro conoscono i rischi e io conosco i rischi, ma hanno messo tutto insieme per farmi sentire a mio agio, quindi devo ringraziare la mia squadra per l’opportunità.

Chase Sexton (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing):
It’s been really fun, a lot different than the last couple of years – getting on a new bike, having to learn that, and also just dealing with a new team. It’s cool meeting new people, I was pretty familiar with most of the guys, but you’re working with them is different and, like I said, it’s been fun and a lot different. We’ve been working and working, so we are where we want to be right now and I’m looking forward to tomorrow night, getting our first race under our belt. We don’t really know where we’re at, so that’s kind of the exciting part about this race. Learning a new bike and racing a new bike is the fun part, but also stressful too. I’m ready for the challenge… we have to keep building throughout the series.
Ken Roczen (Progressive Ecstar Suzuki):
We have put in a lot of hours to try get better and I’ve felt the most relaxed I’ve ever felt going into Anaheim. I’m treating this season with the most respect because we have a really, really stacked field, and overall I’m in a much different position than I’ve been in the years past. I also know that you can win or be on the podium one weekend, but finish 10th another week. I feel much, much better on the bike and I can focus on racing rather than the bike and what we need to change. Nothing’s new really, I’m really just excited to get going again.
Jett Lawrence (Team Honda HRC):
I’m grateful to be where I am now, I’ve worked my butt off to be here, so I’m pumped to be here finally. I’m looking forward to the season, it should be a good one for me, I’m excited to learn more and to put it up there.
Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing):
I feel like I’m in the same position [as last year] and that’s how well it’s gone for me. It was a huge unknown, I first got back on the motorcycle in October, and that’s when I started. The goal was to be on supercross in November and I hit my mark, so it’s been pretty smooth sailing. This injury was a scary thing to have happen, but I think with our equipment and the way you sit on a motorcycle, you can get through this injury within six months and performing. I feel like I’m to the level that I was last year, say January, so we’re ready.”
Jason Anderson (Monster Energy Kawasaki):
Obviously our new bike and new frame is a level up. Between me and AC, I think we’ve had really positive feedback with it at the test track, but it’s a little different on race days. I feel good and I’m ready to see what goes down – hopefully for me I’m close to the front and we don’t have too many problems, but you never know what happens.
Jorge Prado (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing):
It’s nice to be here because it’s going to be a dream come true to race under lights. I’m super-happy to be here and almost ready to ride. I think we did our best with the little time that we’ve had to get ready for racing and I’m excited because since I was a little kid I’ve always watched these guys. Let’s see how it goes, it will be my very first time racing Supercross. I feel very comfortable with the bike, it allows me to go in a good pace for me, and I am very happy – we did good work with the team. It’s not easy when you race full-time in Europe and ask to come and do some racing, but they know the risks and I know the risks, but they put everything together to make me feel comfortable, so I need to thank my team for the opportunity.
