MONACO (Principato di Monaco) 13 settembre 2023 – Andrea Bonacorsi è riuscito a conquistare la vetta dell’EMX250 prima di fare il salto nelle classi maggiori. Il pilota ufficiale EMX250 di Hutten Metaal Yamaha vanta ora due campionati europei di motocross nell’EMX125 presentato da FMF Racing e nell’EMX250.

A 20 anni Andrea Bonacorsi ha già la bacheca dei trofei piena, e dovrà trovare spazio con questo nuovo titolo di Campionato Europeo, questa volta nella classe EMX250. Un destino già tracciato. Questo è quello che penseresti guardando il suo percorso fino ad oggi nel mondo del Motocross. Il suo amore per gli sport motociclistici è nato molto presto, quando appena a due anni percorreva i sentieri dei paddock italiani con il padre, pilota enduro nazionale. La passione era già lì e un anno dopo al ragazzo venne regalata la sua prima moto. Una volta seduto sopra, non è più sceso. All’età di 8 anni Bonacorsi partecipò alle sue prime gare in Italia. Fu l’inizio di una lunga strada per sviluppare le sue capacità di guida e un giorno raggiungere l’élite europea e mondiale. Ha raggiunto il massimo livello all’età di 15 anni, quando è entrato nel campionato EMX125 con il team KTM Silver Action. Un anno per familiarizzare con la categoria, e nel 2018 è stato raggiunto un traguardo importante, con il primo podio del teenager a Lommel, tempio del motocross. Quel giorno, mentre era terzo dietro allo svedese Filip Olsson e al suo connazionale Mattia Guadagnini, Andrea si rese conto che nulla avrebbe potuto impedirgli di realizzare i suoi sogni di titolo. Ma dovrà ancora aspettare.

Mentre si univa al team Celestini KTM, il 2019 non è stato il suo anno migliore, con un nono posto nella classifica generale EMX125, ma la sensazione che avrebbe potuto diventare un campione è rimasta intatta. E quell’ossessione si è concretizzata un anno dopo. Sette gare vinte nel 2020 e quattro vittorie assolute dopo, il pilota – all’epoca con il Fantic Factory Team Maddii – era sul gradino più alto del podio assoluto. Il Team Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 non ha mancato di notare i risultati del giovane fenomeno e lo ha accolto per la stagione 2021 in Olanda, per il suo passaggio alla classe EMX250.

Dopo un ottimo anno da rookie in cui è salito tre volte sul podio e ha ottenuto il quarto posto assoluto, Bonacorsi ha iniziato la sua stagione 2022…in MX2! Gli è stata infatti data l’opportunità di sostituire Thibault Benistant a Matterley Basin, con il team Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 . Questo primo tentativo non è finito come sperava, ma altre occasioni per brillare a questo livello sono arrivate successivamente. Una seconda campagna europea che ha potuto quindi alternare con alcune gare nella classe MX2 si è conclusa con un 6 ^° posto nella classifica generale EMX250. Quasi aneddotico in quanto l’esperienza maturata sarà utile per il futuro.

A tre anni dalla sua incoronazione nell’EMX125, Andrea Bonacorsi ha conquistato una nuova corona. Nelle nove gare del campionato EMX250 2023, l’italiano è salito ogni volta sul podio, vincendo un totale di quattro round.

Nel primo GP, in Sardegna, Bonacorsi è andato 1-1 ottenendo una vittoria preziosa per iniziare la sua stagione mentre Prugnieres ha conquistato il secondo posto sul podio e Karssemakers il terzo assoluto. Poi in Trentino, Valerio Lata ha conquistato la sua prima vittoria nell’EMX250 davanti al detentore della Tabella Rossa che è arrivato secondo (1-2), e Ferruccio Zanchi terzo per un podio 100% italiano. Agueda ha visto Bonacorsi ottenere la sua seconda vittoria assoluta della stagione, mentre Kay Karssemakers ha fatto una buona operazione con la sua solida corsa arrivando secondo sul podio e secondo nella classifica del campionato. Anche Ferruccio Zanchi ha corso molto bene in Portogallo ottenendo un meritato podio consecutivo.

Una settimana dopo, nella periferia di Madrid, Cas Valk ha vinto la classifica generale mentre il N.32 è riuscito a ottenere un importante secondo posto assoluto per il campionato e Kay Karssemakers ha conquistato un altro podio al terzo posto. Giunto nell’Est Europa poi, a Kegums, il ragazzo della Yamaha si è sorpreso piazzandosi terzo alle spalle di Ivano Van Erp e del costante Kay Karssemakers. Bonacorsi ha cercato di rimediare al suo “fallimento” in Germania. È arrivato secondo dietro Marc-Antoine Rossi, ma davanti a Kay Karssemakers. Ancora in pericolo mentre era ancora leader della classifica generale, l’italiano ha ottenuto un nuovo secondo posto a Uddevalla, Svezia (2-2), battuto questa volta da Cas Valk mentre il terzo uomo Kay Karssemakers ha lottato duramente per salire sull’ultimo gradino della classifica. Il podio.

Ma non passerà molto tempo prima che Andrea riacquisti il ​​gusto della vittoria. E lo ha fatto in Olanda, con un 2-2 che gli ha permesso di conquistare il primo posto assoluto, davanti a Cas Valk e Kay Karssemakers. E ad Afyonkarahisar, nonostante il quarto posto in Gara 1, il bergamasco si è superato per portarsi al comando nella seconda manche e strappare una vittoria assoluta, preziosa, quella che gli ha regalato il titolo, davanti a Valk secondo e Karssemakers terzo.

“È davvero bello per me. Ho lavorato così duramente negli ultimi due-tre anni per raggiungere questo obiettivo. Se mi pongo un obiettivo, faccio tutto il possibile per realizzarlo. E l’ho fatto, quindi sono davvero orgoglioso di me stesso perché non mi sono arreso e sono davvero orgoglioso di tutti i miei ragazzi intorno a me” , ha esultato Bonacorsi dopo aver vinto il titolo assoluto ed europeo ad Afyonkarahisar, in Turchia.

Allo stesso tempo, ha regalato alla Yamaha il terzo titolo EMX250 negli ultimi quattro anni. Thibault Benistant nel 2021, poi Rick Elzinga nel 2022, avevano precedentemente permesso al marchio giapponese di imporsi come produttore di riferimento della categoria negli ultimi anni.

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 13 September 2023 – Andrea Bonacorsi has made it to the top of the EMX250 before making the jump in the bigger classes. The Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 rider now boasts two European Motocross Championship in EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing and EMX250.

At 20 years old, Andrea Bonacorsi already has a full trophy cabinet, and he will have to find some space with this new European Championship title, this time in the EMX250 class. A destiny all mapped out. That’s what you’d think when you look at his journey to date in the world of Motocross. His love for motorbike sports was born at a very early age, when the barely two-year-old was walking the paths of the Italian paddocks with his father, a national enduro rider. The passion was already there, and a year later the kid was given his first bike. Once he sat on it, he never got off again. At the age of 8, Bonacorsi took part in his first races in Italy. It was the start of a long road to develop his riding skills, and one day reach the European and World elite. He reached the top level at the age of 15, when he entered the EMX125 Championship with the team KTM Silver Action. A year to familiarize himself with the category, and in 2018 an important milestone was reached, with the teenager’s first podium in Lommel, the temple of motocross. That day, while he was third behind Swede Filip Olsson and his compatriot Mattia Guadagnini, Andrea realized that nothing could stop him from achieving his title dreams. But he will still have to wait. 

While he joined the team Celestini KTM, the year 2019 had not been his best year, with a ninth-place finish in the EMX125 overall standings, but the feeling that he could become a Champion remained intact. And that obsession came to fruition a year later. Seven races won in 2020 and four overall wins later, the rider – at the time with Fantic Factory Team Maddii – was on the top step of the podium overall. The Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 Team didn’t fail to notice the young phenomenon’s results and welcomed him for the 2021 season in the Netherlands, for his switch to the EMX250 class.

After an excellent rookie year in which he finished on the podium three times and obtained fourth overall, Bonacorsi has started his 2022 season…in MX2! Indeed, he was given the opportunity to replace Thibault Benistant at Matterley Basin, with the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team. This first attempt did not end as he’d hoped, but other opportunities to shine at this level came later. A second European campaign which he was therefore able to alternate with a few races in the MX2 class resulted in a 6^th place in the EMX250 overall standings. Almost anecdotal as the experience gained will be beneficial for the future. 

Three years after his coronation in EMX125, Andrea Bonacorsi has conquered a new crown. And with manner. In the nine races of the 2023 EMX250 Championship, the Italian reached the podium each time, winning a total of four rounds. 

     

During the first Round, in Sardinia, Bonacorsi went 1-1 to get a precious win to kick-start his season while Prugnieres clinched the second place on the podium and Karssemakers third overall. Then at Trentino, Valerio Lata clinched his first EMX250 win in front of the Red Plate holder who finished second (1-2), and Ferruccio Zanchi third for an 100% Italian podium. Agueda saw Bonacorsi getting his second overall win of the season, while Kay Karssemakers made a good operation with his solid racing getting second on the podium and second in the Championship Standings. Ferruccio Zanchi also rode very well in Portugal getting a well deserve back-to-back podium.

A week later in intu-Xanadù, Madrid, Cas Valk won the overall while the No.32 managed to get an important overall second place for the Championship and Kay Karssemakers made another podium in third. Coming to Eastern Europe then, at Kegums, the boy from Yamaha was surprised by finishing third behind Ivano Van Erp and the constant Kay Karssemakers. Bonacorsi tried to correct his “failure” in Germany. He finished second behind Marc-Antoine Rossi, but ahead of Kay Karssemakers. Still under threaten while he was still leader overall, the Italian got a new second place at Uddevalla, Sweden (2-2), beaten this this time by Cas Valk while the Third-Man Kay Karssemakers fought hard to get on the last step of the podium. 

But it wouldn’t be long anymore before Andrea regained the taste of victory. And it was done in The Netherlands, with 2-2 results that allowed him to take first overall, in front of Cas Valk and Kay Karssemakers. And at Afyonkarahisar, despite a fourth place in Race 1, the kid from Bergamo surpassed himself to take the lead in the second heat and snatch a precious victory overall, the one that offered him the title, ahead of Valk second and Karssemakers third.

“It’s really cool for me. I worked so hard during the last two-three years to achieve this goal. If I put a goal to myself, I do everything that I can to realize it. And I did it so I’m really proud of myself because I did not give up and I’m really proud of all my guys, around me”, Bonacorsi rejoiced after winning the overall and the European title in Afyonkarahisar, Türkiye. 

At the same time, he gave Yamaha its third EMX250 title in the last four years. Thibault Benistant in 2021, then Rick Elzinga in 2022, had previously allowed the Japanese brand to establish itself as the benchmark manufacturer in the category in recent years.
