Gajser vittorioso dopo la straordinaria prestazione a Turkiye
Tim Gajser del Team HRC ha vinto la seconda manche al MXGP di Turkiye, salendo sul gradino più alto del podio per la sua prima vittoria assoluta in GP nel 2023. Ha coronato un eccellente fine settimana per il #243 che ha dimostrato ancora una volta a tutti di essere in grado di una forza da non sottovalutare, ora che è tornato al massimo delle sue forze.
Anche il compagno di squadra Ruben Fernandez si è lasciato alle spalle un fine settimana un po’ frustrante per guidare in modo eccellente nella seconda gara e ottenere il quarto posto, regalandogli il sesto posto assoluto e un’immagine molto più corretta di come si sentiva all’inizio di questo evento.
Per Gajser, però, è passato quasi un anno dal giorno in cui ha vinto l’ultima volta un MXGP e dopo aver ottenuto il primo posto nelle prove cronometrate di ieri per dargli la prima scelta quando la gara di qualificazione è stata annullata a causa di una tempesta, è arrivato alle manche di oggi sentendosi davvero fiducioso. . Un buon inizio in gara uno lo ha visto passare rapidamente al comando nel terzo rettilineo e, anche se ha provato a staccarsi, ha comprensibilmente avuto un po’ di tensione nel guidare questo gruppo altamente competitivo della MXGP per la prima volta in 12 mesi. Tuttavia, è riuscito a raggiungere il secondo posto, sapendo che una vittoria in gara due gli avrebbe dato la vittoria.
Ed è esattamente questo che è riuscito a ottenere dopo essere tornato in testa alla seconda curva e aver dato prova di guida che lo ha visto ottenere un vantaggio di 10 secondi ad un certo punto. Un piccolo errore lo ha visto rimontare proprio davanti al gruppo degli inseguitori, ma ha riacquistato la calma e ancora una volta ha recuperato un gap di cinque secondi quando ha ricevuto la bandiera a scacchi, scatenando scene di giubilo per sé e per tutto il Team HRC.
Dal suo ritorno da un femore rotto a febbraio, il campione del mondo in carica è lentamente migliorato in ogni evento, e questa gara era quella che aveva considerato un potenziale podio, ma dopo essersi sentito a suo agio nella primissima sessione, il suo obiettivo è stato aggiornato a una vittoria e lo sloveno l’ha ottenuta con una dimostrazione di guida che ha mostrato a tutti di essere tornato al suo meglio nel 2022.
Dietro di lui al quarto posto c’era Fernandez, che finalmente ha potuto dimostrare a tutti che aveva velocità su questa pista e che stava tornando al meglio dopo un paio di mesi difficili. Non è riuscito a fare un giro decente nelle prove cronometrate e con la gara di qualificazione annullata, non ha avuto l’opportunità di migliorare quella 14a posizione.
Poi in gara uno, dopo aver fatto un bel salto, è stato eliminato nel secondo rettilineo e ha dovuto riprendere la moto quasi per ultimo. Sebbene la sua guida fosse buona, è riuscito a risalire solo all’11° posto, lasciandolo fortemente motivato a fare molto meglio in gara due. E ci è riuscito, facendo ancora una volta una buona partenza e portandosi rapidamente al quarto posto. Lo ha mantenuto per tutta la durata e lascia Turkiye molto meglio riguardo alla sua prestazione.
Anche se ora c’è il fine settimana libero, entrambi i piloti si recheranno a Maggiora, in Italia, per il penultimo round della stagione con uno stato d’animo eccellente e cercando di mantenere alto questo slancio e cercando davvero di concludere questo campionato alla grande.

Mi sentivo fiducioso in vista di questo fine settimana e una volta che ho guidato in pista, sapevo che sarebbe stato un buon fine settimana. Anche se la tempesta ha impedito che gareggiassimo, ho avuto la prima scelta e questo mi ha davvero aiutato a fare due buone partenze sulla mia Honda CRF450R, dandomi l’opportunità di condurre le gare nelle prime fasi. Nella prima gara ho avuto problemi alle braccia, quindi mi sono dovuto accontentare del secondo, ma in gara due mi sentivo davvero bene sulla moto. Avevo davvero un buon vantaggio e, anche se ho commesso un errore, sono riuscito a rimanere davanti e poi a recuperare di nuovo un gap. Un grande ringraziamento a tutta la squadra, alla mia ragazza Spela e a tutti i tifosi che mi hanno supportato quest’anno quando le cose non erano andate come speravo. Sono davvero felice di mostrare a tutti che sono tornato e ora sono davvero emozionato per gli ultimi due round.

La seconda manche è andata molto meglio per me, e molto di più al livello che mi aspetto da me stesso. Dopo non aver avuto l’opportunità di migliorare la mia 14a posizione nelle prove cronometrate, non ho avuto la scelta migliore ma ho comunque fatto una buona partenza in gara uno. Tuttavia, un altro pilota mi è venuto addosso prima della seconda curva e io stavo riprendendo la moto praticamente per ultimo. Sono tornato all’11° posto ma è stata una gara piuttosto frustrante. Per fortuna gara due è andata molto meglio e sono riuscito a partire bene e a tenere in vista i primi tre per tutta la gara. Un grande complimento a Tim per la sua vittoria e spero davvero che potremo vederci sul podio in questi ultimi due round.

Che grande prestazione di Tim durante l’intero fine settimana. È stato veloce in ogni sessione e ha meritato pienamente di vincere qui, il che aumenta davvero la sua fiducia per Maggiora e Matterley Basin, che sono due piste che gli piacciono. Tutta la squadra, sia in gara che in Giappone, ha lavorato molto duramente per aiutarlo a rimettersi al passo e così è stata la testimonianza dell’impegno profuso da tutti, che è riuscito a ottenere questa vittoria. Anche Ruben ha fatto una grande gara nella seconda manche e inizia ad assomigliare al pilota che ha iniziato la stagione così bene. Complimenti ad entrambi i piloti e non vediamo l’ora di arrivare a Maggiora e provare a fare ancora meglio.

Gajser victorious after amazing performance in Turkiye
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser won the second moto at the MXGP of Turkiye, to get himself on the top step of the podium for his first overall GP victory in 2023. It capped off an excellent weekend for the #243 who showed everyone once again that he is a force to be reckoned, now that he is back to full strength.
Teammate Ruben Fernandez also put a bit of a frustrating weekend behind him to ride excellently in the second race to get fourth place, giving him sixth place overall, and a much fairer reflection of how he was feeling coming into this event.
For Gajser though, it is almost a year to the day that he last won an MXGP and after topping timed practice yesterday to give him first gate-pick when the qualification race was cancelled due to a storm, he came into today’s motos feeling really confident. A good start in race one saw him quickly move into the lead on the third straight and although he tried to pull away, he understandably got a bit of arm-pump from leading this highly competitive MXGP field for the first time in 12 months. Still, he was able to cruise to a second place, knowing that a win in race two would give him the victory.
And that’s exactly he was able to achieve after once again getting into the lead round the second corner and putting in a display of riding that saw him pull out a 10 second lead at one stage. A small mistake saw him remount just in front of the chasing pack, but he regained his composure and once again pulled out a five second gap by the time he received the chequered flag, sparking scenes of jubilation for himself and all of Team HRC.
Since his return from a broken femur in February, the reigning world champion has slowly improved in each event, and this race was one that he had circled as a potential podium, but after being comfortable in the very first session, his target was upgraded to a victory and the Slovenian achieved it with a display of riding that showed everyone he is back to his 2022-best.
Following him across the line in fourth place was Fernandez, who finally got to show everyone that he had speed at this track and that he is also getting back to his best after a tough couple of months. He wasn’t able to put in a decent lap in timed practice yesterday and with the qualification race being cancelled, he didn’t have the opportunity to improve upon that 14th position.
Then in race one, after getting a good jump, he was taken out on the second straight and had to pick up his bike almost dead last. While his riding was good, he was only able to get back to 11th place, leaving him highly motivated to do a lot better in race two. And he was able to do just that, by once again getting a good start and moving quickly into fourth place. He maintained that for the duration and leaves Turkiye feeling much better about his performance.
Although there is weekend off now, both riders will be heading into Maggiora, Italy for the penultimate round of the season in excellent frames of mind and looking to keep this momentum up and really trying end this championship on a high.

I felt confident coming into this weekend and once I rode the track, I knew it was going to be a good weekend. Even though the storm meant we didn’t race yesterday, I had the first gate-pick and that really helped me get two good starts on my Honda CRF450R, giving me the opportunity to lead the races early on. The first race I had arm-pump so I had to settle for second, but race two I was just feeling so good on the bike. I had a really good lead, and even though I made a mistake, I was able to stay in front and then pull out a gap all over again. A big thank you to all the team, my girlfriend Spela and all the fans who have supported me this year when things haven’t gone my way. I’m really happy to show everyone that I am back and now I’m really excited for the final two rounds.

The second moto was much better for me, and much more the level that I expect from myself. After not getting the opportunity to improve upon my 14th position in timed practice, I didn’t have the best gate-pick but I still had a good start in race one. However, another rider collided into me before the second bend and I was picking my bike up practically last. I got back to 11th but it was a pretty frustrating race. Thankfully race two went a lot better and I was able start well and keep the top three in sight for the entire race. A big congrats to Tim for his victory and I really hope we can see each other on the podium in these last two rounds.

What a great performance by Tim over the whole weekend. He was fast in every session and fully deserved to take the win here, which really boosts his confidence for Maggiora and Matterley Basin, which are two tracks he likes. The whole team, both at the races and in Japan have worked very hard to help him get back up to speed and this is testament to the effort everyone has put in, that he was able to achieve this victory. Ruben also put in a great race in the second moto and is starting to look like the rider who started off the season so strongly. Well done to both riders and we can’t wait to get to Maggiora and try and do even better.
