LA VITTORIA DEL GP D’INDONESIA PORTA ROMAIN FEBVRE AL SECONDO NELLA CORSA A PUNTI
Romain Febvre del Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP è arrivato secondo nella classifica FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship con la sua prima vittoria GP della stagione sull’isola indonesiana di Sumbawa.
Avendo già guidato ogni sessione sabato, Febvre stava guardando al fine settimana perfetto poiché ha anche dominato il Warm-up e la potenza della KX450-SR ha visto ancora una volta il francese fare holeshot di una netta lunghezza della moto nella prima manche del GP. Il caldo di mezzogiorno è stato claustrofobico e il leader della Kawasaki si è accontentato inizialmente di tenere a debita distanza il suo inseguitore più vicino prima di enfatizzare il suo ritmo eccezionale a metà distanza per spostarsi gradualmente di sei secondi fino a un momento fatidico al tredicesimo di diciassette giri quando ha momentaneamente perso trazione su un atterraggio scivoloso in discesa e scivolò a terra. L’incidente è costato dodici secondi, ma è rientrato in gara ancora secondo e ha ripreso rapidamente la calma per portarlo a casa a soli tre secondi dal vincitore. La vittoria non è mai stata messa in dubbio in gara due dopo l’ennesimo holeshot netto, mentre il leader verde ha costruito con freddezza un vantaggio sempre maggiore sul resto del gruppo ed è stato di nove secondi di vantaggio in una fase prima di superare le ultime curve per aggiudicarsi una manche travolgente vincere e assicurarsi la sua sedicesima vittoria in GP in carriera, la prima dal 2021. Il bottino di cinquantasette punti in campionato del fine settimana ha anche portato il francese al secondo posto nella serie con nove GP rimanenti.
Romain Febvre: “Era importante vincere di nuovo, sia per me che per la squadra e abbiamo fatto il lavoro questo fine settimana; sono stato il più veloce in ogni sessione e sento che la mia velocità era davvero buona. Abbiamo avuto una giornata di test iniziale questa settimana; ho fatto novantotto partenze e tre holeshot netti questo fine settimana dimostrano che abbiamo trovato delle buone soluzioni. Ora tocca a me continuare così. La seconda manche è stata tutta mia ma è stato un mio errore nella prima manche. Non ero sotto pressione, ero in vantaggio di diversi secondi e stavo aprendo il gap. Sentivo di potermi prendere il mio tempo, ma c’è un po’ di curvatura in quella parte della pista e sono appena andato sul bordo della linea; ho aperto il gas troppo presto e sono scivolato di centottanta gradi. Ero in testa ma non è mai finita fino alla fine; è stato un mio errore. Sono solo un po’ deluso perché avrebbe dovuto essere un perfetto weekend di 1-1; abbiamo recuperato qualche punto e ora sono secondo nella serie, ma poteva essere anche di più”.
Mitch Evans ha confermato le prestazioni della KX450-SR unendosi al suo compagno di squadra nei primi tre dalla partenza di gara uno. Ha periodicamente ceduto posizioni durante i primi giri ai rivali che hanno corso al massimo per tutta l’estate ma sembravano ancora sicuri al settimo posto dopo venti minuti prima che il caldo iniziasse a farsi sentire e i suoi tempi sul giro, in comune con la maggior parte del campo , è aumentato in modo significativo ed è stato riportato al nono posto al traguardo. Un solido giro di apertura di gara due ha portato l’australiano ottavo e ha trovato un ritmo costante per conquistare il suo settimo posto finale all’undicesimo di diciassette giri per l’ottavo posto assoluto della giornata. Il solido punteggio lo vede salire al diciottesimo posto nella classifica della serie nonostante abbia saltato i primi quattro round e ulteriori progressi significativi sono in programma nelle prossime settimane con solo trentuno punti al dodicesimo.
Mitch Evans: “La mia partenza è stata davvero buona nella prima manche, ma verso la fine ho faticato un po’ con il caldo. Ho avuto un feeling fisico migliore in gara due e sono riuscito a fare un paio di buoni sorpassi per il settimo posto. Continuiamo a fare passi avanti ogni settimana quindi va bene.”
Antti Pyrhönen, team manager KRT: “La vittoria è stata meritata per Romain; è stato così vicino molte volte quest’anno e ora finalmente l’ha ottenuta. La pista era molto imprevedibile ed era importante rimanere sulle due ruote nella seconda manche. Questa non è stata solo una vittoria per Romain, ma per tutta la squadra; tutto il team ha lavorato così duramente per questo ed è stato fantastico che tutti potessero godersi questa vittoria “.

INDONESIAN GP WIN TAKES ROMAIN FEBVRE TO SECOND IN THE POINTS CHASE
Romain Febvre of Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP moved second in the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship standings with his first GP win of the season on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa.
Having already headed ever session on Saturday Febvre was looking at the perfect weekend as he also dominated Warm-up and KX450-SR power again saw the Frenchman holeshot by a clear bike-length in the first GP moto. The midday heat was claustrophobic and the Kawasaki leader was content initially to simply keep his closest chaser at arm’s length before emphasizing his outstanding pace at half-distance to gradually move six seconds clear until a fateful moment on the thirteenth of seventeen laps when he momentarily lost traction on a slick downhill landing and slithered to the ground. The incident cost twelve seconds, but he rejoined the race still second and quickly regained his composure to bring it home just three seconds shy of the winner. Victory was never in doubt in race two after yet another clear holeshot as the Green leader coolly built an ever-greater lead over the rest of the field and was nine seconds clear at one stage before rolling through the final few turns to clinch an overwhelming moto win and secure his sixteenth career GP victory, his first since 2021. The fifty-seven points championship haul from the weekend has also advanced the Frenchman to second in the series with nine GPs remaining.

Romain Febvre: “It was important to finally win again, both for me and for the team and we’ve done the job this weekend; I was fastest every session and I feel my speed was really good. We had a start-test day this week; I did ninety-eight starts and three clear holeshots this weekend show that we found some good solutions. Now it’s up to me to carry on like this. The second moto was mine all-the-way but it was my own mistake in the first moto. I was under no pressure, leading by several seconds and I was opening the gap. I felt I could take my time but it’s a little off-camber at that part of the track and I just went on the edge of the line; I opened the gas too early and I slid through one-hundred-and-eighty degrees. I was leading but it’s never over until the end; it was my mistake. I’m just a little disappointed because it should have been a perfect 1-1 weekend; we took back a few points, and I’m now second in the series, but it could have been even more.”
Mitch Evans confirmed the performance of the KX450-SR by joining his teammate in the top-three off the start of race one. He periodically surrendered places through the early laps to rivals who have been racing at the sharp end all summer but still looked secure in seventh after twenty minutes before the heat started to take its toll and his lap-times, in common with most of the field, increased significantly and he was pushed back to ninth at the finish. A solid opening lap to race two found the Australian eighth and he found a consistent rhythm to take over his eventual seventh on the eleventh of seventeen laps for eighth overall on the day. The solid scoreline sees him move up to eighteenth in the series standings despite missing the opening four rounds and further significant advances are on the cards in coming weeks with just thirty-one points to twelfth.
Mitch Evans: “My start was really good in moto one but I just struggled a little in the heat towards the end. I had a better feeling physically in race two and could make a couple of good passes for seventh. We keep making steps every week so that’s good.”

The track was very unpredictable and it was important to keep in on two wheels in the second moto. This was not just just a win for Romain but for the whole team; all of the crew have been working so hard for this and it was great that they could all enjoy this victory.”
