Romain Febvre rimane tra i primi tre nella corsa al titolo MXGP
Romain Febvre del Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP si è ripreso da una difficile prima manche a Riola Sardo in Sardegna per mantenere la sua posizione tra i primi tre nel FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship.
Il francese ha sofferto una prima manche frustrante dopo essere riuscito a chiudere bene in quarta posizione quando una momentanea scivolata verso la fine del secondo giro lo ha riportato al dodicesimo posto. Era rientrato nella top ten prima di metà gara ma non è riuscito ad avanzare ulteriormente e una mossa a sorpresa del suo immediato inseguitore nell’ultimo giro lo ha visto retrocedere all’undicesimo posto sotto la bandiera a scacchi. Riorganizzandosi bene durante l’intervallo di due ore tra le manche, l’asso Kawasaki ha vinto il premio holeshot in gara due, ma ha dovuto cedere il comando a un paio di piloti che avevano una traiettoria più vantaggiosa alla curva due. Ha risposto rapidamente per riconquistare il secondo posto al terzo giro e, avvicinandosi a un secondo e mezzo dal leader in fuga, sembrava un potenziale vincitore della manche fino agli ultimi minuti della manche, quando la recente interruzione del suo programma di allenamento ha preso il sopravvento. Paga pegno e ha dovuto accettare il quarto posto su una pista accidentata che aveva sfidato l’intera élite mondiale. Febvre è ora terzo a pari merito nella classifica della serie, a soli ventidue punti dal leader, diretto al terzo round a Frauenfeld in Svizzera il lunedì di Pasqua.
Romain Febvre: “Sono partito bene in entrambe le gare e questo è positivo, ma sfortunatamente sono caduto all’inizio della prima gara e dopo non sono riuscito a trovare il mio ritmo, quindi è stato difficile sorpassare e guadagnare posizioni. La seconda gara è andata meglio; Ho ottenuto l’holeshot e poi sono arrivato secondo, non lontano da Coldenhoff, ma non ero abbastanza vicino per provare a sorpassarlo. Devo anche dire che fisicamente non sono ancora dove vorrei essere per via del fatto che sono stato fermo un mese dalla moto, ma sta arrivando. Ero contento della moto; Potevo fare quello che volevo con questa sabbia profonda e ora ho altre due settimane per lavorare prima del prossimo GP”.

Romain Febvre stays top-three in the MXGP title chase
Romain Febvre of Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP bounced back from a difficult first moto at Riola Sardo on Sardinia to maintain his top-three ranking in the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship.
The Frenchman suffered a frustrating first moto after gating well in fourth position as a momentary slip towards the end of lap two pushed him back to twelfth. He had pulled back into the top-ten before half-distance but could not advance further and a surprise move from his immediate chaser on the final lap saw him relegated to eleventh at the chequered flag. Regrouping well during the two-hour interval between motos the Kawasaki ace took the holeshot award in race two but had to surrender the lead to a couple of riders who had a more advantageous line through turn two. He quickly responded to regain second place by lap three and, closing to within one-and-a-half seconds of the runaway leader, looked a potential moto winner until the final minutes of the moto when the recent break in his training schedule took its toll and he had to accept fourth on a rugged track which had challenged the entire world elite. Febvre is now joint-third in the series standings, just twenty-two points shy of the leader, heading to round three at Frauenfeld in Switzerland on Easter Monday.
Romain Febvre: “I got good starts in both races and that’s positive, but unfortunately I crashed early in the first race and after that I couldn’t find my rhythm so it was difficult to pass and gain positions. The second race was better; I got the holeshot and then was second, not far from Coldenhoff, but I wasn’t quite close enough to try to pass him. I must also say that physically I’m not yet where I would like to be due to the fact that I was one month off the bike, but it’s coming. I was happy with the bike; I could do what I wanted with it in this deep sand and now I have two more weeks to work before the next GP.”
