Jorge Viegas eletto nuovamente Presidente FIM. Giovanni Copioli confermato nel Board of Directors
Il portoghese guiderà la Federazione Internazionale per il secondo mandato consecutivo. Tra le quattro candidature per il CdA, il Presidente FMI ottiene il più alto numero di voti.
Jorge Viegas è stato nuovamente eletto Presidente FIM durante l’Assemblea Generale della Federazione Internazionale di Motociclismo tenutasi oggi presso il Palacongressi di Rimini. Viegas ha ottenuto il 99% dei voti espressi dai delegati votanti delle Federazioni Nazionali presenti, potendo così iniziare il suo secondo mandato quadriennale consecutivo a capo della FIM. Prima di diventare Presidente della FIM nel 2018, Viegas aveva già ricoperto diversi ruoli all’interno della Federazione, entrandovi nel 1992 come Membro della Commissione per la promozione della FIM; successivamente è stato nominato Vice Presidente per vari mandati tra il 1996 e il 2014.
Immediatamente dopo l’elezione del Presidente, si sono tenute le elezioni di tre Membri del Board of Directors, il Consiglio d’Amministrazione della Federazione Internazionale. Su quattro candidature di alto livello, il Presidente FMI Giovanni Copioli è stato confermato all’interno dell’organo dirigenziale con ben 85 voti davanti a Giedre Leskauskiene (79 voti), Sébastien Poirier (67 voti) e Majeed Khudaykhsh (26 voti). All’Ordine del Giorno della riunione di domani mattina del Board of Directors è prevista la nomina dei Vice Presidenti FIM.
In merito alla sua rielezione il Presidente FIM Jorge Viegas ha affermato con entusiasmo: “Sono molto grato per il sostegno che ho ricevuto. Gli ultimi quattro anni sono stati un viaggio straordinario, reso possibile solo grazie all’incredibile team con cui ho lavorato. Non potrò mai esprimere abbastanza gratitudine per la loro motivazione, disponibilità e amicizia, sono veramente la mia famiglia. Devo anche ringraziare le Federazioni Nazionali e le Unioni Continentali per gli eccezionali risultati che abbiamo raggiunto insieme, attraverso i nostri obiettivi condivisi, combinando un duro lavoro e, soprattutto, una grande collaborazione”.
Molto soddisfatto il Presidente FMI Giovanni Copioli: “La riconferma nel Board of Directors testimonia il grande lavoro fatto da tutta la Federazione Motociclistica Italiana a livello internazionale grazie ad un continuo lavoro di squadra sia nel nostro Paese che all’estero. Voglio ringraziare il Presidente FIM Jorge Viegas e tutti i Delegati delle Federazioni Nazionali che mi hanno confermato la loro fiducia. Il mio obiettivo è continuare a lavorare gomito a gomito con tutta la dirigenza, con le Unioni continentali e con le Federazioni Nazionali. Grandi sfide e importanti traguardi ci aspettano per il futuro del motociclismo a livello mondiale”.
Nel Corso dell’Assemblea Generale, Francesco Brandi (Presidente del Collegio dei Revisori dei Conti FMI) è stato eletto Internal Auditor della FIM. Franco Acerbis, titolare della storica azienda Acerbis, ha ritirato il più alto riconoscimento della FIM, la medaglia d’oro Nicolas Rodil del Valle.

JORGE VIEGAS RE-ELECTED AS FIM PRESIDENT
Today at the FIM Annual General Assembly in Rimini, Italy Mr. Jorge Viegas has been re-elected as FIM President after his successful candidature was officially confirmed by him securing 99% of the votes cast by the national federations present. Mr Viegas’ new mandate will follow on from his successful first four-year term in office.
Prior to first taking on the role as FIM President back in 2018, Mr Viegas had already served in several roles within the FIM over a long period, starting as a Member and President of the FIM Promotion Commission in 1992 before being appointed FIM Vice‐President for various terms between 1996 and 2014. He has also served several terms as an FIM Board Member and he was a Member of TAD in Portugal as well as Member of the Portuguese Olympic Committee.
Reflecting on his re-election earlier today Mr Viegas enthused: “I am very grateful for the ongoing support I have received and for those federations who felt I deserved their vote. The last four years have been an amazing journey which was only made possible thanks to the incredible team who I have worked with. I can never express enough gratitude for their motivation, availability and friendship, they truly are my family.”
“I must also thank the National Federations and the CONUs for the outstanding accomplishments that we have achieved together, through our shared goals, combined hard work and importantly great collaboration. I am blessed to work with each one of you, and my dearest wish is to keep caring about you in the future.”
Born in Faro, Portugal, with a Master’s degree in Economics (International Relations), Mr Viegas’ affair with two‐wheels began when he first raced motocross back in 1974, before switching to Circuit Racing with some success, even competing in several 250cc Grand Prix events as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After several years working as a journalist, he founded and became President of the Portuguese Federation (FNM/FMP) in 1990 and was later appointed by the Portuguese government as President of the Estoril Circuit.
Mr Viegas concluded by saying: “We have already developed many initiatives in relation to the one hundred and twentieth anniversary of the FIM in 2024, now we can start to plan and action these alongside the many other plans we have for the next four year period and beyond hopefully.”
