Yamaha conferma la formazione di tre piloti per Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 nel 2023
Yamaha Motor Europe è lieta di confermare una formazione di tre piloti per il team Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 nel 2023. Yamaha e il team hanno mantenuto gli sfidanti al titolo Jago Geerts e Thibault Benistant per un’altra stagione e sono pronti ad accogliere recentemente incoronato Campione EMX250 Rick Elzinga nella mischia. Tutti e tre i piloti hanno firmato per fare una campagna con la Yamaha YZ250FM ufficiale nel Campionato del mondo di motocross FIM MX2.
Con 32 vittorie in gara e 42 podi già al suo attivo nella MX2, Geerts è un affermato contendente al titolo. Il 22enne belga sta nuovamente inseguendo il suo primo titolo mondiale in MX2 in questa stagione e attualmente detiene un vantaggio di 2 punti nella serie con un solo round rimanente.
Mentre il suo obiettivo è vincere la corona MX2 quest’anno e poi difenderla con successo il prossimo, Geerts non vede l’ora di fare il suo debutto in MXGP a bordo di una Yamaha YZ450FM ufficiale nel 2024.
Le speranze per il titolo di Geerts nel 2023 non saranno prive di una sfida da parte del compagno di squadra Benistant, che si è assicurato i titoli di campionato EMX125 ed EMX250 durante i suoi dieci anni di mandato con la Yamaha. Nonostante la sua stagione da rookie MX2 nel 2021 sia stata interrotta da un infortunio, il 20enne francese ha collezionato due vittorie in gara e un podio, chiudendo la stagione all’ottavo posto in classifica.
La forma di Benistant è continuata nel 2022, con il giovane che ha superato di nuovo un infortunio che lo ha visto saltare i primi tre round per rivendicare la prima vittoria del Gran Premio, quattro vittorie in gare e cinque podi, piazzandolo quinto nella classifica della serie con un round rimanente .
Allo stesso tempo, Elzinga ha scalato la piramide Yamaha Racing con il podio in EMX125, a bordo di una YZ125 equipaggiata con GYTR e una straordinaria campagna per il titolo EMX250 a bordo di una YZ250F con kit GYTR in cui ha celebrato quattro vittorie di round, cinque vittorie di gare e sei podi finisce sulla strada per la corona.
Come campione europeo EMX250 appena incoronato, Elzinga si è guadagnato il posto nel team Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 per la sua prima stagione completa in MX2.

Yamaha Confirms Three Rider Line Up for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 in 2023
Yamaha Motor Europe is pleased to confirm a three-rider line-up for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team in 2023. Yamaha and the team have retained title challengers Jago Geerts and Thibault Benistant for another season and are poised to welcome the recently crowned EMX250 Champion Rick Elzinga into the fray. All three riders have signed on to campaign the factory Yamaha YZ250FM in the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship.
With 32 race wins and 42 podiums to his credit already in MX2, Geerts is a proven title contender. The 22-year-old Belgian is again chasing his first world title in MX2 this season and currently holds a 2-point lead in the series with only one round remaining.
While his goal is to win the MX2 crown this year and then successfully defend it next, Geerts is also looking forward to making his MXGP debut aboard a factory Yamaha YZ450FM in 2024.
Geerts’ title hopes in 2023 will not be without a challenge from teammate Benistant, who has secured both the EMX125 and EMX250 championship titles during his ten-year tenure with Yamaha. Despite his rookie MX2 season in 2021 being disrupted by injury, the 20-year-old Frenchman racked up two race wins and a podium finish, ending the season eighth in the standings.
Benistant’s form has continued into 2022, with the youngster again overcoming an injury that saw him sit out the first three rounds to claim a maiden Grand Prix victory, four race wins and five podium finishes, placing him fifth in the series standings with one round remaining.
At the same time, Elzinga has worked up the Yamaha Racing pyramid with podium finishes in EMX125, aboard a GYTR kitted YZ125, and a stellar EMX250 title campaign aboard a GYTR kitted YZ250F in which he celebrated four round wins, five race wins, and six podium finishes on his way to the crown.
As the freshly crowned European EMX250 Champion, Elzinga has earned his place on the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team for his first full season in MX2.
