Gajser torna sul podio in Svezia mentre Evans fa la migliore moto della stagione
Tim Gajser del Team HRC è salito sul podio dopo che i suoi punteggi di quattro-due gli hanno dato il secondo posto assoluto, in un altro buon fine settimana per la sua classifica di campionato. Anche il vincitore della gara di qualificazione Mitch Evans ha ottenuto il suo miglior risultato in gara dell’anno con un quarto posto in gara due, tenendo il passo con i tre piloti davanti a lui e facendo il giro più veloce della gara a bordo della sua Honda CR450R.
Sabato, la coppia ha fatto uno-due in una dimostrazione di guida dominante per il Team HRC, ma sfortunatamente non sono stati in grado di sfruttare al meglio le loro scelte al cancello in gara uno poiché entrambi hanno lottato fuori dal cancello. Nel giro di poche curve, i due erano appena fuori dai primi cinque, ma mentre Evans ha cercato di fare un altro sorpasso, ha commesso un leggero errore e ha dovuto rimontare sulla moto. Con il gruppo ancora ravvicinato, questo significava che era vicino al fondo campo quando è ripartito di testa e con molto lavoro davanti a sé.
Per Gajser è riuscito ad arrivare quarto entro la fine del primo giro e nonostante abbia provato molte traiettorie diverse non è riuscito a fare nessun sorpasso per migliorare la sua posizione, tagliando il traguardo ancora al quarto posto. Dietro di lui, Evans è stato l’unico pilota a fare mosse, tagliando il traguardo al 27° posto al primo giro, ma risalindo fino al 10° posto alla fine della manche. È stato uno sforzo monumentale da parte dell’australiano e, sebbene fosse deluso dall’errore, è stata una bella guida e gli ha dato la certezza di poter comunque ottenere un buon risultato in gara due.
Sapendo che la partenza era cruciale, entrambi i piloti della Honda CR450R hanno fatto salti molto migliori ed erano proprio nel bel mezzo dell’azione nelle prime curve. Sia Gajser che Evans hanno fatto delle belle mosse per arrivare rispettivamente al secondo e quarto posto entro la fine del primo giro, e con tutti separati di pochi secondi, c’era il potenziale per i risultati di migliorare ancora. Tuttavia, come in gara uno, i primi cinque correvano tutti così vicini l’uno all’altro e passare era quasi impossibile, e anche se Evans ha fatto registrare il tempo più veloce, nessuno dei due piloti è riuscito a passare e hanno finito dove erano partiti, secondo e quarto .
Con quattro-due risultati, questo significava che Gajser era secondo assoluto e guidava ancora il campionato MXGP di 115 punti, con solo tre round rimanenti. Ciò significa che il #243 ha bisogno di soli 35 punti nelle prossime sei manche per essere incoronato campione del mondo per la quinta volta nella sua carriera, il tutto sotto la tenda del Team HRC.
Evans, che è arrivato al 10° posto in campionato, può anche essere entusiasta della Finlandia il prossimo fine settimana poiché il quarto posto in gara due è stato il suo migliore finora quest’anno. Questo dovrebbe dargli molta fiducia mentre il pilota si dirige verso Hyvinkaa, una pista che non vede l’azione MXGP dal 2014. Ciò significa che avrà la stessa esperienza della maggior parte dei suoi concorrenti e con una grande spinta di fiducia dalle tre gare di questo fine settimana, punterà sicuramente al podio.
In quello che è il secondo di tre round consecutivi, la pista di Hyvinkaa dovrebbe fornire una sfida molto diversa per il duo del Team HRC rispetto a questo circuito di Uddevalla, accidentato ma stretto, con il circuito di sabbia profonda che si spera renda un po’ più possibili i sorpassi . Le previsioni del tempo in questo momento sembrano promettenti e tutti sperano che anche i risultati della MXGP vadano secondo i piani quando il cancello scenderà il 14 agosto.

Ottenere il secondo posto assoluto è un risultato solido, ma è stato un po’ frustrante perché la pista era così difficile da superare. In entrambe le gare non c’è stato un sorpasso tra i primi cinque dopo il primo giro, quindi quando non sono partito al meglio in gara uno, ho davvero danneggiato le mie possibilità di vincere il mio nono gp assoluto della stagione. Tuttavia, è un’altra gara in calo e sono ancora in una posizione davvero forte nel campionato, quindi devo solo mantenere il livello alto e puntare alla vittoria in Finlandia il prossimo fine settimana.

Dopo aver vinto la gara di qualificazione, sentivo davvero di poter salire sul podio oggi, ma sfortunatamente ho commesso un piccolo errore nel primo giro di gara uno e questo mi è costato. Ho reagito dal fondo del campo e sono arrivato fino al 10° posto, cosa che su questa pista non è stato facile, quindi è stato un buon recupero, ma speravo davvero in di più. Tuttavia, in gara due, ho compensato con un ottimo quarto posto, il mio miglior risultato in moto della stagione, quindi è stato davvero bello e mi dà la certezza di poter lottare per il podio in questi ultimi tre GP della stagione .

Fare uno-due nella gara di qualificazione di ieri ha davvero dato a tutti la speranza che sia Tim che Mitch potessero salire sul podio oggi, tuttavia il motocross può essere uno sport difficile e un errore può togliere quell’opportunità. Devo dare un grande merito a Mitch perché ha lottato duramente per tornare al 10° posto, superando molti ragazzi su una pista su cui quasi nessun altro si è mosso. Lo ha poi portato in gara due per la sua migliore gara della stagione e sono davvero eccitato per questi prossimi round per lui. Tim continua a correre ad alto livello ed è tornato di nuovo sul podio con i suoi quattro-due risultati. La posizione in campionato è molto buona e non vediamo l’ora che arrivi la Finlandia.

Gajser returns to Sweden podium as Evans puts in best moto of the season
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser made a welcome to the podium after his four-two moto scores gave him second overall, in another good weekend for his championship standings. Qualification race winner Mitch Evans also had his best race result of the year with a fourth in race two, keeping pace with the three riders in front of him and putting in the fastest lap of the race onboard his Honda CR450R.
Yesterday, the pair went one-two in a dominating display of riding for Team HRC, but unfortunately they weren’t able to make the best use of their gate-picks in race one as they both struggled out of the gate. Within a few turns, the pair were just outside the top five, but as Evans tried to make another pass, he made a slight error and had to remount his bike. With the pack still close together, this meant that he was near the back of the field when he headed off again and with a lot of work ahead of him.
For Gajser, he managed to get into fourth by the end of the first lap and despite trying many different lines, he was unable to make any passes to improve his position, crossing the line still in fourth place. Behind him, Evans was the only rider who was making moves, crossing the line in 27th on lap one, but making his way up to 10th place by the end of the moto. It was a monumental effort from the Australian and although he was disappointed with the mistake, it was a great ride and gave him confidence he could still get a good result in race two.
Knowing the start was crucial, both Honda CR450R riders got much better jumps and were right in the thick of the action in the first few corners. Both Gajser and Evans made some nice moves to get into second and fourth respectively by the end of lap one, and with everyone separated by just a few seconds, there was potential for the results to get even better. However, like race one, the top five were all running laptimes so close to each other than passing was almost impossible, and although Evans did post the fastest laptime, neither rider could make a pass and they finished where they started, in second and fourth.
With four-two results, this meant Gajser was second overall, and still leading the MXGP championship by 115-points, with just three rounds remaining. This means the #243 needs just 35-points in the next six motos to be crowned world champion for the fifth time in his career, all under the Team HRC awning.
Evans, who moved into 10th place in the championship, can also get excited for Finland next weekend as the fourth in race two was his best so far this year. This should give him a lot of confidence as the rider’s head to Hyvinkaa, a track that hasn’t seen MXGP action since 2014. This will mean that he’ll have as much experience as most of his competitors, and with a big boost of confidence from the three races this weekend, he’ll definitely be aiming for a podium position.
In what is the second of three back-to-back rounds, the track in Hyvinkaa should provide a much different challenge for the Team HRC duo than this rutted but narrow Uddevalla circuit, with the deep-sand circuit hopefully making passing a bit more possible. The weather forecast right now is looking promising and everyone will be hoping that the MXGP results also go to plan when the gate drops on August 14th.

To come away with second overall is a solid result, but it was a little frustrating because the track was just so difficult to pass on. In both races, there wasn’t a pass in the top five after the first lap, so when I didn’t get the best start in race one, it really hurt my chances to win my ninth overall of the season. However, it is another race down and I’m still in a really strong position in the championship so I just need to keep the level high and aim for the win in Finland next weekend.

After winning yesterday’s qualification race, I really felt like I could have been on the podium today, but unfortunately I made a small mistake on the first lap of race one and that cost me. I fought back from near the back of the field, and worked my way up to 10th, which on this track wasn’t easy, so that was a good recovery, but I really hoped for more. Still, in race two, I made up for that with a strong fourth place finish, my best moto result of the season so that felt really good and gives me confidence that I can battle for the podium spots in these last three GPs of the season.

Going one-two in the qualification race yesterday really gave everyone hope that both Tim and Mitch could get on the podium today, however motocross can be a tough sport and one mistake can take away that opportunity. I do have to give big credit to Mitch because he fought hard to comeback to 10th, overtaking a lot of guys on a track that barely anyone else made a move on. He then carried that into race two for his best race of the season and I’m really excited for these next few rounds for him. Tim continues to ride at a high level and was back on the podium again with his four-two results. The championship position is very good and we are very much looking forward to Finland.
