Gajser torna a vincere in Germania, Evans ha ottenuto il meglio della stagione
Teutschenthal, in Germania, ha ospitato questo 11° round del Campionato del mondo MXGP 2022, dove Tim Gajser del Team HRC è tornato a vincere, ottenendo il suo settimo GP assoluto della stagione e portando il suo vantaggio a 101 punti. Anche il compagno di squadra Mitch Evans ha dato il meglio di sé risultati della stagione con un otto-sei per il settimo posto assoluto.
In quello che è stato un weekend quasi perfetto per lo sloveno, Gajser aveva già fatto segnare i tempi più veloci nelle prove libere e cronometrate, prima di vincere anche la gara di qualificazione del sabato. Si è poi precipitato verso un holeshot in gara uno, girando intorno alla prima curva e non voltandosi mai indietro mentre dominava quella manche, registrando un tempo sul giro di quasi un secondo più veloce di chiunque altro.
In gara due, non è stato del tutto in grado di eguagliare quell’impresa, non ottenendo una partenza altrettanto buona e invece dovendo farsi strada fino al secondo posto all’inizio del primo giro. Nonostante abbia registrato ancora una volta il giro più veloce, non è riuscito a trovare la strada oltre il leader, su una pista che non offriva molte opportunità di sorpasso, e invece si è accontentato di tagliare il traguardo al secondo posto e prendere il settimo posto assoluto di quello che è già un’ottima campagna 2022.
Per Evans, un ottimo quinto nella gara di qualificazione gli ha dato l’opportunità di confondersi con i migliori piloti fuori dal cancello e ne ha potuto approfittare piazzando due risultati nella top 10 per la prima volta quest’anno. In entrambe le gare, è stato praticamente il caso in cui ha attraversato il primo giro, è stato il punto in cui ha terminato la gara, ma Evans è stato in grado di avanzare dal nono all’ottavo in gara uno. In gara due sapeva che una partenza migliore lo avrebbe aiutato e ci è riuscito, tagliando il traguardo al sesto posto la prima volta. È stato poi coinvolto in una battaglia durata una gara con i piloti avanti e indietro, ma ha continuato a registrare tempi sul giro forti e coerenti e ha ricevuto la bandiera a scacchi al sesto posto. Il suo conteggio di 28 punti è stato quattro in più rispetto al suo record precedente e gli dà molta fiducia che le cose possano migliorare ancora nei round futuri.
Il prossimo appuntamento per i piloti è un nuovo circuito a Samota-Sumbawa, in Indonesia, dal 25 al 26 giugno. Questo dà a Gajser ed Evans un fine settimana libero per riprendersi da questa serie di tre gare in tre fine settimana e prepararsi per quella che dovrebbe essere un’esperienza completamente diversa su quella che sarà una struttura nuova di zecca, costruita appositamente per questo prossimo GP.

È stato bello tornare a vincere e anche fare un altro holeshot è stato un bonus. Ho apprezzato molto la pista questo fine settimana e penso che questo si sia dimostrato nella mia guida. Penso che sono stato il più veloce in ogni sessione e ho anche fatto i giri più veloci in entrambe le gare, quindi ottenere la classifica generale è stato il modo migliore per concludere questo evento. Fare uno-due ed estendere il mio vantaggio a oltre 100 punti è più di quanto avrei potuto sperare, quindi devo ringraziare la squadra e la mia ragazza Spela, che compie gli anni oggi, per il loro supporto. Abbiamo lavorato tutti molto duramente e non potrei farlo senza il supporto che mi danno.

Oggi è stato il mio miglior conteggio dei punti della stagione, quindi sono molto contento di come è andato il fine settimana. Ho ottenuto il mio miglior piazzamento in manche con un sesto in gara due e questo è stato dopo un ottavo in gara uno, quindi due risultati nella top ten e non troppo lontani dai primi cinque in assoluto. Sapevo che le partenze sarebbero state importanti, quindi questo ha aiutato, ma è stato bello combattere tutte le manche e lottare per ogni posizione. Ora ho un paio di settimane per migliorare ancora e sono fiducioso che questo sarà l’inizio di ottimi risultati.

È stato bello vedere Tim tornare sul gradino più alto del podio dopo alcuni round difficili. Stava guardando indietro al suo meglio in gara uno, afferrando l’holeshot e tirando fuori un distacco dal resto del gruppo. Ha controllato la gara e sembrava davvero forte. In gara due ha dovuto fare un paio di sorpassi in anticipo per arrivare secondo e ha provato a passare per il comando ma non ci è riuscito, quindi si è accontentato del secondo, sapendo che era abbastanza buono per la classifica generale. Con otto round rimanenti, è di oltre 100 punti davanti al suo rivale più vicino, quindi questo è stato un weekend molto positivo.
Anche Mitch ha ottenuto la sua migliore prestazione della stagione e questo è stato un altro aspetto positivo. Ha corso forte in entrambe le gare e ha meritato pienamente i suoi otto-sei risultati per il settimo posto assoluto. Ora i ragazzi hanno un weekend libero prima di andare in Indonesia, che è un nuovo round per tutti, ma ci dirigiamo con molta fiducia.

Gajser returns to winning ways in Germany, as Evans put in season’s best
Teutschenthal, Germany was the host for this 11th round of the 2022 MXGP World Championship, where Team HRC’s Tim Gajser returned to winning ways, taking his seventh overall of the season and extending his points lead to 101. Teammate Mitch Evans also put in his best results of the season with an eight-six for seventh overall.
In what was almost a perfect weekend for the Slovenian, Gajser had already posted the fastest times in free and timed practice, before winning the Saturday qualifying race too. He then stormed off to a holeshot in race one, sweeping around the first turn and never looking back as he dominated that moto, posting a laptime almost one second quicker than anyone else.
In race two, he wasn’t quite able to match that feat, not getting quite as good a start and instead having to work his way through into second by the start of lap one. Despite posting the fastest laptime once again, he wasn’t able to find his way past the leader, on a track that didn’t provide many passing opportunities, and instead settled for crossing the line in second and taking his seventh overall of what is already an excellent 2022 campaign.
For Evans, an excellent fifth in the qualification race gave him the opportunity to mix it up with the top riders off the gate and he was able to take advantage of that by posting two results inside the top 10 for the first time this year. In both races, it was pretty much the case that where you crossed the first lap, is where you finished the race but Evans was able to advance from ninth to eighth in race one. In race two, he knew a better start would help him out and he was able to achieve that, crossing the line in sixth the first time around. He was then involved in a race-long battle with riders ahead and behind, but he kept posting strong, consistent laptimes and received the chequered flag in sixth. His 28-point tally was four more than his previous best and gives him a lot of confidence that things can get even better in future rounds.
Next up for the riders is a new circuit in Samota-Sumbawa, Indonesia on 25-26 June. This gives Gajser and Evans a weekend off to recover from this run of three races in three weekends, and prepare themselves for what should be a totally different experience on what will be a brand-new facility, built specifically for this upcoming GP.

It was good to get back to winning ways, and taking another holeshot was a bonus too. I really enjoyed the track this weekend and I think that showed in my riding. I was fastest in every session I think, and even had the fastest laps in both races, so to come away with the overall was the best way to end this event. Going one-two and extending my lead to over 100 points is more than I could have hoped for so I must thank the team and my girlfriend Spela, who’s birthday it was today for their support. We have all worked extremely hard and I couldn’t do it without the backing they give me.

Today was my best points tally of the season, so I am very happy with how the weekend went. I got my joint-highest moto finish with a sixth in race two and that was after an eighth in race one, so two results inside the top ten and not too far away from a top five overall. I knew the starts would be important, so that helped, but it felt good to be battling the whole motos and fighting for every position. Now I have a couple of weeks to improve more and I’m feeling confident that this is going to be the start of some really good results.

It was great to see Tim back on the top step of the podium after a tough few rounds. He was looking back to his best in race one, grabbing the holeshot and pulling out a gap to the rest of the field. He controlled the race and just looked really strong. In race two he had to make a couple of early passes to get into second and tried to pass for the lead but was unsuccessful, so instead settled for second, knowing it was good enough for the overall. With eight rounds left, he is over 100 points ahead of his nearest rival so this was a very positive weekend.
Mitch also had his best performance of the season and that was another positive. He rode strongly in both races and fully deserved his eight-six results for seventh overall. Now the guys have a weekend off before heading to Indonesia, which is a new round for everyone, but we head there with a lot of confidence.
