Gajser estende il vantaggio in campionato a 73 punti dopo l’MXGP della Francia
Tim Gajser del Team HRC ha aumentato il suo vantaggio nel campionato MXGP 2022 di sette punti dopo una forte prestazione di carica sul circuito di Ernee nel nord-ovest della Francia. Il tempo di domenica è stato molto migliore di quello di sabato e ciò ha permesso alla Honda CRF450R di spazzare via il campo e di eguagliare il conteggio dei punti del pilota terzo classificato.
Dopo le qualifiche di sabato, a Gajser è stato assegnato il 22esimo cancello e, sebbene la partenza di Ernee sia un po’ più aperta rispetto ad altre piste, non è stato comunque in grado di superare quello svantaggio e superare la prima curva in modo pulito. Invece, è dovuto risalire al 16° posto dopo essere stato raccolto in un tamponamento multirider. Abbassando la testa, è entrato presto nella top 10 e avanzava quasi ogni giro. Con un quarto di gara rimasto, si stava avvicinando ai primi tre e data la velocità che stava trasportando, avrebbe fatto quei sorpassi. Sfortunatamente, un piccolo ribaltamento gli è costato tempo prezioso e si è invece dovuto accontentare del quinto posto.
Gara due è andata un po’ meglio perché è rimasto in piedi ma era ancora intorno al 15° posto mentre giravano la prima curva. Tuttavia, al primo giro, è stato in grado di effettuare molti sorpassi e ha tagliato il traguardo in ottava posizione. Ancora una volta, si è fatto strada attraverso il campo, registrando il giro più veloce della gara nel processo e presto è stato nuovamente in lotta per il podio, solo per fare un ribaltamento simile che gli è costato tempo e la possibilità di una gara e posto assoluto sul podio. Invece, ha concluso con 34 punti, terzo a pari merito ma perdendo al secondo tie-break della manche. Tuttavia, erano ancora sette in più rispetto al suo rivale in campionato più vicino, quindi il suo vantaggio è risalito a 73.
La prossima settimana, dall’11 al 12 maggio, si terrà la familiare pista di Teutschenthal, in Germania, in quella che è la terza gara in tre settimane prima del viaggio in Indonesia. Gajser ha vinto la classifica generale l’anno scorso, quindi è entusiasta di tornare a vincere ancora una volta nel 2022 e continuare a estendere il suo vantaggio nel campionato MXGP.

Sono un po’ deluso da quegli incidenti in ciascuna delle manche, che mi sono costati un paio di posti, ma nel complesso è stato un buon fine settimana dopo la difficile decisione di sabato e la partenza dall’esterno. Il mio vantaggio in campionato è tornato a 73 punti e finalmente ho sentito che la mia velocità era al livello di prima della Sardegna. So che le mie partenze hanno davvero danneggiato le mie possibilità complessive, e poi cadere nella prima curva ha reso le cose davvero difficili, ma oggi sono arrivato bene e ho fatto molti sorpassi, quindi è stato bello. La prossima tappa è la Germania, una pista che mi piace guidare, quindi non vedo l’ora di andare lì e tornare sul podio.

Ancora una volta è un caso che i miei risultati non riflettessero la mia velocità complessiva. Sono stato coinvolto nell’incidente alla prima curva in gara uno e quando sono riuscito a risalire ero proprio in fondo al campo. A metà gara ho visto le bandiere blu, quindi ho lasciato passare i primi e mi sono infilato dietro le prime due. Da quel momento in poi, sono rimasto dietro di loro, facendo corrispondere i loro tempi e sentendomi davvero a mio agio mentre lo facevo. Sfortunatamente, non è stato sufficiente per portarmi in zona punti, ma mi ha dato una spinta in più di fiducia per essere stato in grado di correre davanti. In gara due sono stato nuovamente coinvolto in una caduta al primo giro e ho dovuto risalire dal 16° posto. Quando ho ricevuto la bandiera a scacchi, ero tra i primi 10, quindi è stata una buona rimonta, ma so comunque di essere in grado di ottenere un punteggio molto migliore.

Sabato è stato un weekend difficile da negoziare con il tempo e le condizioni della pista, ma sono orgoglioso sia di Tim che di Mitch per essersi concentrati sulle loro gare e aver cercato di portare a termine il lavoro quando contava davvero. Sapevamo che sarebbe stata una lotta per loro aggirare il problema della prima curva in buona posizione dopo la scelta del cancello esterno, ma è stato davvero un peccato per loro essere coinvolti entrambi nell’accumulo del primo turno. Tuttavia, Tim e Mitch hanno mostrato una buona velocità e hanno guidato bene nelle loro situazioni. Gara due è stata migliore per entrambi e sappiamo che avrebbe potuto essere anche migliore, ma nel complesso è stato un weekend forte per Tim che ha raccolto sette punti preziosi nella battaglia per il campionato. Mitch ha solo bisogno di un po’ di fortuna e sono sicuro che li vedremo entrambi in prima fila molto presto.

Gajser extends championship lead to 73-points after MXGP of France
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser increased his lead in the 2022 MXGP championship by seven-points after a strong, charging performance at the Ernee circuit in northwest France. The weather on Sunday was much better than Saturday and that allowed the Honda CRF450R to sweep through the field and match the points-tally of the third-placed rider.
After Saturday’s qualification, Gajser was given 22nd gate-pick and although the Ernee start is a bit more wide-open than other tracks, he still wasn’t able to overcome that disadvantage and get through the first corner cleanly. Instead, he had to remount in 16th place after being collected up in a multi-rider pile-up. Putting his head down, he was soon inside the top 10 and moving forward almost every lap. With a quarter of the race left, he was closing in on the top three and given the speed he was carrying, he would have made those passes. Unfortunately, a small tip-over cost him valuable time and he instead had to settle for fifth.
Race two was a little better as he stayed upright but he was still in around 15th place as they rounded the first corner. However, on lap one, he was able to make a lot of passes and crossed the line in eighth place. Once again, he moved his way through the field, posting the fastest laptime of the race in the process and was soon challenging again for the podium spots, only to make a similar tip-over which cost him time and the chance of a race and overall podium spot. Instead, he finished with 34-points, joint-third but losing out on the second moto tie-breaker. However, it was still seven more than his nearest championship rival so his lead has gone back up to 73.
In what is becoming a frustrating pattern, Mitch Evan’s results aren’t matching the speed and effort that he is putting into the races. Like Gajser, he was starting from way outside and was involved in the same pile-up, but unfortunately with more severe consequences. The Australian almost crashed through the fence around the edge of the first bend, taking him some time to even get back to his bike and remount. This left him in last place and little chance to make any impact in the race, however he was able to salvage some pride, by sticking with the leaders after they came through to lap him. For the last quarter of the race, he stayed right behind positions one and two, matching laptimes and showing the huge French crowd his speed was as good as anyone’s.
The second moto started off a lot better, but then he was involved in a crash at the end of lap two, dropping him down to 16th. He fought back to 10th place but it still isn’t a fair reflection of just what the #43 is capable of onboard his Honda CRF450R.
Next week on May 11-12 is the familiar track of Teutschenthal, Germany in what is the third race in three weeks before the trip to Indonesia. Gajser won the overall there last year, so he is excited to get back to winning ways once again in 2022 and keep extending his MXGP championship lead.

I’m a bit disappointed with those late moto crashes in each of the motos, which cost me a couple of places, but overall, it was a good weekend after the difficult decision on Saturday and starting from the outside. My championship lead is back up to 73-points and I finally felt that my speed was at the level it was before Sardinia. I know that my starts really hurt my overall chances, and then to crash in the first turn made things really difficult but I came through well and made a lot of passes today so that felt good. Next up is Germany which is a track I enjoy riding so I am looking forward to heading there and getting back on the podium.

Once again it is a case that my results didn’t reflect my overall speed. I was involved in the first turn crash in race one and by the time I was able to remount, I was right at the back of the field. Midway through the race I saw the blue flags, so I let the leaders go by and slotted in behind the front two. From then on, I kept right behind them, matching their laptimes and feeling really comfortable while doing so. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get me into the points but it gave me a confidence boost that I was able to run at the front. In race two, I was again involved in a crash on the first lap and had to make my way up from 16th place. By the time I received the chequered flag, I was in the top 10 so that was a good comeback but I still know I’m capable of getting a much better points total.

It was a difficult weekend to negotiate with the weather and the track conditions on Saturday, but I’m proud of both Tim and Mitch for focusing on their racing and trying to get the job done when it really mattered. We knew that it’d be a struggle for them to get round the first turn in good position after having the outside gate picks, but it was really unfortunate for them to both be involved in the first turn pile-up. Still, Tim and Mitch showed good speed and rode well in their situations. Race two was better for both and we know that it could have been even better, but overall, it was a strong weekend for Tim as he picked up seven valuable points in the championship battle. Mitch just needs a bit of luck and I’m sure we’ll see both of them up front very soon.
