450SX Class Recap – Atlanta

Jason Anderson takes the 450SX win in Atlanta

Anderson Paces Speedway: Jason Anderson scored his first Speedway victory in 11 tries across either class when he took the checkers in the historic racing venue. It was his 11th 450SX Class win which moves him into a tie with Mike Bell for 20th all-time. His 116th start moves him into a tie with Ken Roczen for 25th all-time.

Eli Tomac

Tomac Tames Series, Streak: Eli Tomac is looking to clinch his second 450SX Class title in Foxborough after his runner-up finish in Atlanta. His 80th consecutive start ties him with Jeff Emig for seventh all-time and Ryan Dungey is next on the list at 88. Malcolm Stewart and Justin Barcia are tied at 48 for second on the active list. Chad Reed’s 116 straight 450SX Class starts is the all-time benchmark.

Chase Sexton

Speedway Spills Spoil Sexton: Chase Sexton had the lead in Atlanta before a crash sent him on the comeback trail. His third-place finish was good enough for his ninth career 450SX Class podium. He has 19 top-10’s in 24 450SX Class starts over two seasons.

Kyle Chisholm

11’s ’22 Fills Stat Sheet: Kyle Chisholm has put together an interesting 2022 campaign. As a 450SX Class privateer he made 10 premier-class starts moving him to 13th on the all-time 450SX Class starts list (140 Starts). In Atlanta he finished eighth, his best finish since 2015. As a Eastern Regional 250SX Class fill-in factory rider he made three starts earning a career-best fourth in St. Louis. Overall he has made 13 starts in 14 attempts, earned one top-five, and three top-10’s.

450SX Class: Foxborough Historical Notes

History Lesson: The first race held in Foxborough was on July 24, 1983 and David Bailey won on a Honda.

’83 Foxborough: Mark Barnett held an 11-point lead over Bailey heading into Foxboro Stadium, which was the penultimate race of the season. Barnett’s transmission failed him in the semi-qualifier and he did not qualify. Bailey’s victory gave him a 10-point lead in the series that would be enough room to win the title in the finale.

Venue History: Foxboro Stadium hosted three 450SX Class races in 1983, 1984, and 1990. Gillette Stadium, built on the site of demolished Foxboro Stadium, hosted in 2016 and 2018. 2022 will mark the sixth 450SX Class race in Foxborough and the third in Gillette Stadium.

Championship Percentage: 1983 is the only time the winner of Foxborough went onto win the title. 1/3 in Foxboro Stadium and 0/2 in Gillette Stadium.

250SX Class Recap – Atlanta

Hunter Lawrence takes the win in Atlanta

West Goes 1-2 in Atlanta: Hunter Lawrence and Christian Craig gave the West a 1-2 finish in the Atlanta Dave Coombs Sr. 250SX East/West Showdown. It was H-Law’s fourth 250SX Class win, second in-a-row, and third this season. There have now been 40 points-paying East/West Showdowns.

Christian Craig

Craig/Jett Creep Closer to Clinch: Craig could clinch the Western Regional title one race early in Denver if he wins and/or gains three points on H. Lawrence. J. Lawrence can clinch in Foxborough, one race early in the Eastern Regional title, by finishing 18th or better.

Jett congratulates brother Hunter on his win

Brothers on the Podium v3: Jett and Hunter Lawrence repeated their 2021 Salt Lake City Showdown finale performance by finishing on the podium together in the Atlanta Showdown. They are now the only brothers to finish on the podium together twice. Tyson and Tallon Vohland achieved this one time (Houston 1991) with Jeremy McGrath finishing between them. That race was also a Showdown.

Austin Forkner

Forkner Returns From Injury: Austin Forkner returned to action after missing four rounds with injury. His seventh-place finish was the second best of Eastern Regional riders in the Atlanta Showdown.

250SX Class: Foxborough Historical Notes

Venue History: Unlike the 450SX Class, the 250SX Class only visited Foxboro Stadium one time. Gillette Stadium hosted 250SX Class racing in 2016 and 2018 meaning 2022 will be the fourth 250SX Class race in Foxborough and third in Gillette Stadium. Only

Two Left: Of the riders in the 2018 Foxborough 250SX Class Main Event, only Jordon Smith (2nd) and Ramyller Alves (22nd) are active Eastern Regional 250SX Class riders who are looking to qualify in the 2022 edition.

Championship Percentage: 2/3 250SX Class winners in Foxborough have won the Eastern Regional title in the same season. Denny Stephenson (1990) and Zach Osborne (2018) are the two while Martin Davalos (2016) is the lone exception.
