St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – Atlanta This Race Saves Lives

Round 14 of the Supercross series taking place at Atlanta Motor Speedway will serve as the “THIS RACE SAVES LIVES” event, dedicated to the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Participating athletes, teams, partners, and OEM’s will support the season-long and multi-year St. Jude partnership by featuring patient-inspired artwork on their bikes and gear and then donating the items to the Supercross – St. Jude online auction where all proceeds will go towards eliminating childhood cancer.

Fans will have the chance to bid on the items worn and used by their favorite athletes when the auction opens on Monday, April 25, as the series heads into Round 16 in Denver. The auction will run through the conclusion of the season and the Monster Energy AMA Supercross World Championship 2022 taking place in Salt Lake City, and closing on Monday, May 9. The auction will feature big ticket items such as a St. Jude inspired Team Solitaire Yamaha PW50, Eli Tomac signed Fender guitar, Aaron Plessinger signed Zoe guitar, two STACYC bikes and custom prints from some of the biggest names in the sport. For more information please visit supercrosslive/stjude.

450SX Class Recap – St. Louis

Marvin Musquin taking the win

Movin’ Marv in Mizzou: Marvin Musquin earned his 10th career 450SX Class victory with his 2-1-2 finish in the St. Louis Triple-Crown. It was his first career Triple-Crown overall win and his race-two victory was his fourth Triple-Crown race win. Musquin has now won a race in five straight seasons that he competed (missed 2020 due to injury) and has tied for 21st on the all-time wins list.

Chase Sexton

Rested Sexton Chases Victory: Chase Sexton won the first leg of the St. Louis Triple-Crown but came up short to Musquin with third place finishes in the last two races. After missing Seattle Sexton looked comfortable while cruising to his first runner-up of the season and fifth podium.

Eli Tomac

Tomac Thinking Title, Takes Third: Eli Tomac is poised to win his second 450SX Class title barring a historic meltdown or accident. He looked comfortable cruising to fourth in the first two races and winning the third. His loss broke a five-race win streak but he collected his 83rd career 450SX Class podium.

Jason Anderson

Anderson Makes Case: Jason Anderson finished fourth with 6-2-5 finishes in St. Louis. His eighth top-five of the season was the 70th of his career, good for 13th all-time. His 115th start brings him one away from being on the all-time 450SX Class top-25 starts list. He looks to fend off Justin Barcia, Malcolm Stewart, and Musquin for second in the point standings.

450SX Class: Atlanta Historical Notes

History Lesson: The first Supercross race held in Atlanta was on March 5, 1977 and is the only season opener Atlanta has hosted in the 450SX Class. Bob Hannah won the race on a Yamaha en-route to his first of three consecutive titles. The series has only missed Atlanta twice since that first season (1987-1988).

Three Historic Venues: Fulton County Stadium hosted 14 450SX Class races from 1977-1992 before being demolished. The largest domed-stadium in the world was built close by on Interstate-85 and would begin hosting Supercross in 1993. The Georgia Dome stood until 2017 hosting 26 450SX Class races before it too was demolished in lieu of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Mercedes-Benz Stadium entered the Supercross fray with a bang hosting a Triple Crown in its inaugural season of 2018. The series returned to the Benz in 2019-2020 as well.

Fourth Venue Enters Mix: Atlanta Motor Speedway has been open since 1960 and Dale Earnhardt is the winningest rider with nine NASCAR victories there. In 2021 Atlanta Motor Speedway hosted their first three Supercross races in lieu of the traditional football stadium layout Atlanta has always had. Comparable to Daytona International Speedway the track is built on the infield of the historic 1.5 mile asphalt loop.

Atlanta Title %: The Atlanta Supercross winner has gone onto capture the 450SX Class title in 27/46 (59%) races. This includes 10-straight seasons from 1998-2007 and all three races in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Cooper Webb won Atlanta 3 last season and the title. Atlanta returns to just one round in 2022 and is the latest-round Atlanta 1 in 450SX Class history.

250SX Class Recap – St. Louis

RJ Hampshire takes the win

RJ: Making his 45th start in the eighth season of his 250SX Class career RJ Hampshire finally climbs to the top-step of the podium with a hard fought 2-2-1 night in the St. Louis Triple-Crown. He is the 119th different winner of the 250SX Class. Only Martin Davalos and Zach Osborne made more 250SX Class starts (56 & 49) before their first wins than Hampshire.

Hampshire and his team celebrate their win

Husqvarna Clips Losing Streak: Hampshire gives Husqvarna their first 250SX Class win since Osborne in 2018 Foxborough. Hampshire was also the second rider to earn their first 250SX Class win on a Husky with Osborne being the other rider. Hampshire is now the fourth rider to win a 250SX Class race on a Husqvarna (Davalos, Osborne, and Travis Preston). The win is Husky’s 11th all-time in the class.

Jett Lawrence

Jett’s Triple-Crown Woes: Both of Jett Lawrence’s losses this season have came in the two Triple-Crowns the Eastern Regional will race this season, Arlington and St. Louis. Even though he won the first two races, his fifth in race-three was enough to give Hampshire the victory. Lawrence now has 12 podiums in 20 career 250SX Class starts.

Kyle Chisholm

11’s Career Night: Kyle Chisholm earned the best Supercross finish of his 19-season professional racing career with a fourth-place in the St. Louis Triple-Crown (4-4-3 finishes). He has 171 450SX/250SX combined starts and finished fifth in the 2010 450SX Class Salt Lake City Main Event for his only other top-five Supercross finish. Chisholm ties his MX/SX career best finish that he earned in 2008 (250MX) and 2010 (450MX) at Moto-338 (fourth overall both races). Chisholm is looking for his first professional podium in either class or discipline when the East visits Atlanta.

250SX Class: Atlanta Historical Notes

History Lesson: The first 250SX Class race held in Atlanta was on February 23, 1985 and was also the first ever Eastern Regional 250SX Class race. Eddie Warren won that race and the next two en-route to the first ever Eastern Regional title.

Venue History: Fulton County Stadium hosted six 250SX Class races from 1985-1992. The Georgia Dome took over from 1993-2017 and hosted 26 250SX Class races. Mercedes-Benz Stadium hosted three 250SX Class races from 2018-2020 before Atlanta Motor Speedway took over. After three rounds of Atlanta 250SX Class racing last season, 2022 will be the 39th 250SX Class race in Atlanta and fourth at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

East or West?: The 250SX Class race in Atlanta was an Eastern Regional round for the first 33 visits. In 2019 that changed when it was one of the two 250SX Class Showdowns. In 2021 Atlanta was a Western Regional race for all three rounds due to the pandemic hindered schedule. In 2022 Atlanta will again be a showdown, meaning five of the last six 250SX Class races in Atlanta will have not been solely Eastern Regional races.

Atlanta Title %: The winner of the 250SX Class Atlanta Supercross has gone onto win their Regional title in 25/38 (66%) races. Justin Cooper won one of the races and the Western Regional title last season.
