450SX Class Recap – Seattle

Eli Tomac

Two-Twomac: Eli Tomac nailed his 44th career victory and seventh of the season when he took the checkers in Seattle. The victory ties him with Chad Reed for fourth on the all-time 450SX Class wins list. Ricky Carmichael is next on the list with 48 wins in third place. Tomac’s fifth straight win ties his career long win streak he set in 2017.

Jason Anderson

Anderson Ties O’Show: Jason Anderson’s runner-up in Seattle was his 40th career 450SX Class podium, tying him for 16th all-time with Johnny O’Mara and Ezra Lusk. It was his first podium finish since Arlington.

Malcolm Stewart

Battle for Second Heats Up: Only 21 points separate second place Anderson and sixth place Musquin (third in Seattle, 47th career podium) in the standings. Malcolm Stewart (fourth in Seattle), Justin Barcia (fifth), and Cooper Webb (sixth) lie in between waiting for an opportunity to move up in the standings.

Cade Clason

Notable Career Achievements: Kevin Moranz: three straight 16th place finishes are his three best career 450SX Class finishes. Cade Clason: three straight top-15 finishes after never having a top-15 finish in first 30 450SX Class starts. Kyle Chisholm: 11th place finish in Seattle was his best 450SX Class finish since the 2015 finale. Mitchell Oldenburg: First career 450SX Class top-10 finish. Justin Bogle: Finished in top-10 for two of last three rounds after no top-10 finishes through first nine rounds.

450SX Class: St. Louis Historical Facts

History Lesson: The first 450SX Class race held in St. Louis was on April 27, 1996 and Jeff Emig won on a Kawasaki. Emig’s victory broke Jeremy McGrath’s 13-race win streak that began at the season opener. Ricky Carmichael would later tie the record in 2001 winning his ninth in-a-row in St. Louis and 13th in the finale.

Moving Up in the Rankings: Supercross races were held in The Dome for 23 consecutive seasons from 1996-2018 before skipping the site in 2019 and 2021. 2022 will be the 25th St. Louis Supercross which ties Texas Stadium for ninth most all-time in one venue. The stadium was previously named the Trans World Dome and the Edwards Jones Dome before becoming The Dome at America’s Center in 2017.

Championship Odds: The winner of St. Louis has gone onto win the title in only 11/24 (68%) seasons and none of the past three visits.

2010 St. Louis: The 2010 St. Louis 450SX Class Supercross was named one of the top-10 Supercross races of the decade. Ryan Villopoto took out Ryan Dungey in the battle for the lead causing both riders to crash. Andrew Short shot into the lead right when the Ryans got back going. The Ryans pulled back away from Short before Villopoto took a huge spill which knocked him out for the season, virtually handing the rookie Suzuki rider Dungey his first 450SX Class title. Kevin Windham moved from fourth to second and Short would finish third.

250SX Class Recap – Seattle

Hunter Lawrence

In the Hunt: Hunter Lawrence stole the show with his third career 250SX Class victory and second in the last three Western Regional races. He trails points-leader Christian Craig by 26 points with three races left, two being East/West Showdowns. He will rely on having Eastern Regional riders, such as brother/teammate Jett, finish between Craig and himself in order to win the title.

Christian Craig

Craig’s Best Season: Christian Craig is clearly posting the best numbers of his decade-long 250SX Class career. After his runner-up finish in Seattle, he has scored seven podiums in seven races this season along with four wins. He looks to hold onto the red-plate as a slew of Eastern Regional riders await in Atlanta and Salt Lake City.

Michael Mosiman

Mosiman Loses Ground: After a collision that left Craig on the ground Michael Mosiman led the field and was poised to retain second in the points while gaining on the red-plate. Unfortunately for Mosiman, Lawrence and Craig both snuffed him out of the top-two in the race and point standings. It was his eighth career podium in 39 career 250SX Class starts.

Chris Blose

250SX Career Notables: Lawrence: 10th podium; Craig: 55th start, 30th top-five, 40th top-10; Blose: 25th top-10; Wageman: 25th start; Thrasher: 15th start; Mumford: 10th start; Harrison: 40th start.

250SX Class: St. Louis Historical Facts

History Lesson: The first 250SX Class race held in St. Louis was on April 27, 1996 and Kevin Windham won on a Yamaha.

Back East: St. Louis has the same venue history for the 250SX and 450SX Classes. The last 250SX Class race in St. Louis (2020) was the first time it was exclusively a Western Regional round and in 1996 it was a Shootout. In 2022 “The Gateway to the West” will be an Eastern Regional round exclusively for the 23rd time in 25 races.

199 and The Gateway: Travis Pastrana earned two of his seven career 250SX Class victories in St. Louis back-to-back in 2000-2001, the latter being his Eastern Regional title run. He also made one of his 17 450SX Class starts in The Dome.

Championship Odds: The winner of the 250SX Class race in St. Louis has gone onto win the 250SX Class championship in 15/24 (63%) seasons but none of the previous four stops.
