Il Campionato del Mondo FIM Motocross si dirige all’estero per la prima volta nel 2022, mentre il MXGP di Patagonia-Argentina torna a Villa La Angostura.
Villa La Angostura è una località turistica sul lago Nahuel Huapi in Patagonia con sede nella provincia di Neuquen. È noto per i suoi edifici in legno in stile alpino, le bellissime montagne, i laghi e le foreste che circondano l’area e per gran parte del paddock, l’MXGP della Patagonia-Argentina è tra le prime favorite nel calendario delle gare.
L’MXGP della Patagonia-Argentina ha fatto la sua prima apparizione nel calendario MXGP nel 2015, con l’evento inaugurale vinto da Max Nagl e Dylan Ferrandis in MXGP e MX2. Nel frattempo, l’ultima volta che l’MXGP è stato ospitato a Villa La Angostura, è stato il 2019 e quella volta sono stati Antonio Cairoli e Jorge Prado della Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing ad aver vinto dopo essere stati 1-1 in MXGP e MX2.
Quest’anno sarà la sesta volta che l’MXGP della Patagonia-Argentina si svolgerà e così com’è Tim Gajser del Team HRC , Jeffrey Herlings della Red Bull KTM Factory Racing e Pauls Jonass della Standing Construct Husqvarna Factory Racing hanno il maggior numero di vittorie a Villa La Angostura, con due a testa, ma con Herlings fuori per infortunio e Jonass che ha problemi con i suoi punti di sutura dopo l’intervento chirurgico, questo lascia a Gajser la possibilità di rivendicare la terza vittoria e prendere il primo posto.

In MXGP, tutti gli occhi saranno puntati su Tim Gajser che punterà a mantenere la sua serie di vittorie consecutive e a farne tre sul rimbalzo, dopo le vittorie del Gran Premio a Matterley Basin e Mantova. Gajser è uno dei favoriti in vista del terzo round e senza dubbio punterà a un netto 1-1 che deve ancora ottenere in questa stagione e aver vinto in Argentina in precedenza nel 2017 e nel 2018 si spera sia un ulteriore stimolo di fiducia e motivazione per lui.
Ovviamente, come sempre, possiamo aspettarci che i finalisti del podio dei round precedenti Jorge Prado della Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing , Maxime Renaux e Jeremy Seewer della Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing siano proprio lì in testa alla sfida per la vittoria.
Prado ha combattuto costantemente nella parte migliore nelle prime gare e le sue partenze sono state un enorme vantaggio per lui, qualcosa che è destinato a tornare utile di nuovo in Argentina. Nel frattempo Seewer ha iniziato la sua stagione 2022 con un podio a Matterley Basin, ma ha avuto un weekend difficile a Mantova, pista dove ha ottenuto la sua prima vittoria in assoluto nel Gran Premio MXGP. Anche se dopo i difficili risultati in Lombardia, sarà più che mai acceso per riprendersi e metterlo in area.
E infine, Renaux ha fatto girare la testa rivendicando la sua prima vittoria in una gara di qualificazione alla sua prima uscita nella classe regina in Gran Bretagna e poi seguita con il suo primo podio a soli due GP nella sua stagione da rookie a Mantova, che punterà a costruisci e combatti per un posto con i vincitori anche questo fine settimana.
Un volto da tenere d’occhio per questo fine settimana è il pilota di Beat SDM Corse Jeremy Van Horebeek . Il belga è attualmente ottavo nella classifica del campionato del mondo dopo piazzamenti nei 10 assoluti nei primi due round. Nel 2019, Van Horebeek era terzo sul podio accanto a Cairoli e Gajser, quindi una buona conclusione questa volta con Beta non è fuori gioco.
Brian Bogers della Husqvarna Factory Racing è arrivato vicino al podio a Mantova, per la prima volta dai suoi giorni in MX2. Si è piazzato quarto assoluto e sarebbe bello vedere se riesce a portare questo slancio e fornire un risultato solido e finire tra i primi tre.
Thomas Kjer Olsen del DIGA Procross KTM Racing Team e Mitch Evans del Team HRC sono stati tra i podi a Villa La Angostura nel 2019. Il duo è arrivato secondo e terzo sul podio MX2 che riporterà loro bei ricordi.
Quest’anno, Olsen ha dato un’idea di cosa accadrà a Mantova, in particolare la seconda gara, risalendo l’ordine fino al quarto posto. Nel frattempo Evans sta continuando la sua rimonta dopo l’infortunio e sta ancora costruendo per finire tra i primi 10.
Non ci sono ancora notizie su quando Jeffrey Herlings della Red Bull KTM Factory Racing e Romain Febvre del Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP faranno il loro ritorno.
MXGP 2019 di Patagonia-Argentina – MXGP Top 3:

Nella MX2 c’è un nuovo leader del campionato sotto forma di Jago Geerts di Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing che ha avuto il weekend perfetto a Mantova, andando 1-1 e conquistando la tabella rossa per la prima volta dal 2020. È tra i primi favoriti per questo fine settimana, ma c’è anche Simon Längenfelder della Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing che è una grande minaccia. Il tedesco è secondo in classifica, a soli quattro punti da Geerts e dopo aver perso un posto tra i primi tre a Mantova, Längenfelder vorrà tornare sul podio e seguire la sua incredibile prestazione a Matterley Basin.
Ma è probabile che tutti gli occhi siano puntati su Tom Vialle della Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, poiché tutti sono ansiosi di sapere come sta il francese, dopo il suo grande periodo in Lombardia e quali potrebbero essere le conseguenze di ciò o se è stato solo fortunato. In questa stagione tutti si aspettavano che Vialle dominasse dall’inizio e ciò non è accaduto, il che sta rendendo le cose molto interessanti nella caccia al titolo. L’MXGP di Patagonia-Argentina è un’occasione per Vialle di riprendere le redini, ma avrà bisogno di due gare pulite per massimizzare i punti e risalire dal quarto posto in classifica.
Altri piloti in quell’inseguimento sono Kay de Wolf di Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing , che ha costantemente combattuto all’estremità acuta e il pilota dell’SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery Andrea Adamo , che è ancora in alto per assicurarsi il suo primo podio in assoluto nella MX2 e farlo sul suolo di casa.
Altre grandi minacce includono Kevin Horgmo dell’F&H Kawasaki Racing Team, che ha intensificato questa stagione quando è tornato nella categoria MX2. Horgmo si è piazzato ottavo assoluto in Gran Bretagna e poi quinto assoluto in Lombardia, il che dimostra che sta costruendo quel punteggio tra i primi tre e potrebbe arrivare questo fine settimana.
A sfidarlo, come nei primi due GP, ci sono Mikkel Haarup di Big Van World MTX Kawasaki , Hitachi KTM Fuelled by Milwaukee Isak Gifting e Stephen Rubini di Ship to Cycle Honda SR. Attualmente sono ottavi, noni e decimi in classifica e finora sono stati proprio nella top 10 durante entrambe le gare.
Anche la Honda 114 Motorsports Hakon Fredriksen ha costruito. Ha concluso il suo primo Gran Premio MX2 al 14° posto mentre Mantova era molto meglio per lui, dove era sesto dietro Horgmo.
Nel frattempo per la Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing Mattia Guadagnini non ha ancora mostrato ottimi risultati nel 2022. I suoi primi due GP sono stati lontani da quello che avrebbe potuto aspettarsi e non è del tutto chiaro perché l’italiano abbia lottato così tanto. Ma un nuovo weekend è una nuova opportunità per riprendersi e mettersi sulla strada giusta, poiché sappiamo tutti cosa può fare Guadagnini, la scorsa stagione ne è stata un ottimo esempio.

MXGP Excited for the Return of MXGP of Patagonia-Argentina
MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 15 March 2022 – The FIM Motocross World Championship heads overseas for the first time in 2022, as the MXGP of Patagonia-Argentina returns in Villa La Angostura.
Villa La Angostura is a resort town on Nahuel Huapi Lake in Patagonia based in the Neuquen province. It’s known for its Alpine-style wooden buildings, beautiful mountains, lakes and forests that surround the area and for much of the paddock, the MXGP of Patagonia-Argentina is among the top favourites on the racing calendar.
The MXGP of Patagonia-Argentina first made its appearance on the MXGP calendar back in 2015, with the inaugural event won by Max Nagl and Dylan Ferrandis in MXGP and MX2. Meanwhile the last time that MXGP was hosted in Villa La Angostura, was 2019 and that time around it was Antonio Cairoli and Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado who were victorious after going 1-1 in MXGP and MX2.
This year will be the sixth time that the MXGP of Patagonia-Argentina will take place and as it stands Team HRC’s Tim Gajser, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings and Standing Construct Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass have the most wins in Villa La Angostura, with two apiece, but with Herlings out with injury and Jonass having issues with his stitches post-surgery, this leaves Gajser with the chance to and claim the third victory and take the number one spot.
In MXGP, all eyes will be on Tim Gajser who will aim to keep his winning streak and make it three on the bounce, after Grand Prix victories in Matterley Basin and Mantova. Gajser is a favourite heading into the third round, and will no doubt be aiming for a clean 1-1 result which he is yet to achieve this season and having won in Argentina previously in 2017 and 2018 will hopefully be an added boost of confidence and motivation for him.
Of course, as always, we can expect previous rounds’ podium finishers Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Maxime Renaux and Jeremy Seewer to be right there at the front challenging for the win.
Prado has consistently been fighting at the sharp end in the first races and his starts have been a huge advantage for him – something that is bound to come in useful again in Argentina. Meanwhile Seewer started his 2022 campaign with a podium in Matterley Basin, but had a tough weekend in Mantova, a track where he claimed his first ever MXGP Grand Prix win. Though after the difficult results in Lombardia, he will be more fired up than ever to bounce back and put it on the box.
And lastly, Renaux has turned heads by claiming his first qualifying race win on his first outing in the premiere class in Great Britain and then followed that up with his first podium just two GP’s into his rookie season in Mantova, which he will be aiming to build upon and fight for a spot with the winners again this weekend.
A face to look out for this weekend is Beat SDM Corse rider Jeremy Van Horebeek. The Belgian currently sits eighth in the world championship standings after two top 10 overall finishes in the first two rounds. In 2019, Van Horebeek was third on the box next to Cairoli and Gajser, so a strong finish this time with Beta is not out of the picture.
Standing Construct Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Brian Bogers came close to a spot on the podium in Mantova, for the first time since his MX2 days. He placed fourth overall and I
it would be nice to see if he can carry this momentum and deliver a solid result and finish inside the top three.
DIGA Procross KTM Racing Team’s Thomas Kjer Olsen and Team HRC’s Mitch Evans were among podium finishers in Villa La Angostura back in 2019. The duo finished second and third on the MX2 podium which will bring back nice memories for them.
This year, Olsen gave a glimpse of what’s to come in Mantova, especially the second race as he made his way up the order to fourth. Meanwhile Evans is continuing his comeback after injury and is still building to finish inside the top 10.
There’s still no news on when Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings and Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Romain Febvre will make their return.

In MX2, there is a new championship leader in the form of Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts who had the perfect weekend in Mantova, going 1-1 and claiming the red plate for the first time since 2020. He is among the top favourites for this weekend, but there is also Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Simon Längenfelder who is a big threat. The German is second in the standings, just four points behind Geerts and after missing out on a spot inside the top three in Mantova, Längenfelder will be wanting to get on the podium again and follow up his incredible performance in Matterley Basin.
But all eyes are likely to be on Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle as everyone is eager to know how the Frenchman is, after his huge off in Lombardia and what the consequences of that could really be or whether he just got lucky. This season everyone expected Vialle to dominate from the get-go and that has not happened which is making things a lot interesting in the title chase. The MXGP of Patagonia-Argentina is a chance for Vialle to take the reins once again, but he will need two clean races in order to maximise points and move up from fourth in the standings.
Other riders in that chase are Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf, who has consistently fought at the sharp end and SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery rider Andrea Adamo who is still on the high of securing his first ever MX2 podium and doing so on home soil.
Other big threats include F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s Kevin Horgmo who has stepped it up this season as he made his return to the MX2 category. Horgmo placed eighth overall in Great Britain and followed that up with fifth overall in Lombardia, which shows that he is building for that top three score and it could be coming this weekend.
There to challenge him, as they have been in the first two GP’s are Big Van World MTX Kawasaki’s Mikkel Haarup, Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee’s Isak Gifting and Ship to Cycle Honda SR’s Stephen Rubini. Currently they stand eighth, ninth and tenth in the standings and have been right there inside the top 10 during both races so far.
Honda 114 Motorsports Hakon Fredriksen has been building too. He finished his first MX2 Grand Prix in 14th while Mantova was much better for him, where he was sixth behind Horgmo.
Meanwhile for Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Mattia Guadagnini is yet to show some strong results in 2022. His first two GP’s were far from what he may have expected and it is not entirely clear why the Italian has been struggling so much. But a new weekend is a new opportunity to bounce back and get on the right track, as we all know what Guadagnini can do, last season was a great example of that.
