Roczen metterà in pausa la campagna AMA Supercross 2022
Le prestazioni in pista hanno sofferto poiché Roczen ha affrontato problemi di salute

TORRANCE, California (8 marzo 2022) – Insieme al suo team e alla sua famiglia, il pilota del Team Honda HRC Ken Roczen ha deciso di prendersi una pausa dalla serie AMA Supercross 2022. Roczen ha vinto l’apertura della stagione di Anaheim 1 l’8 gennaio in modo convincente, ma da allora i suoi risultati hanno sofferto mentre lotta con problemi di salute. Con le tensioni del frenetico programma di gare che complicano i progressi, Roczen si ritirerà dalla serie a tempo indeterminato, a partire dal round di Detroit di questo fine settimana.
Roczen ha affrontato gli effetti del virus Epstein-Barr da quando si è ripreso da gravi infortuni nel 2017 e nel ’18, anche se ha fatto progressi in momenti diversi, anche dopo aver saltato l’intera serie AMA Pro Motocross 2020. È stato colpito da una malattia non correlata alla fine dell’anno solare 2021, ma è stato comunque in grado di ottenere una vittoria a sorpresa al primo evento. Sfortunatamente, da allora non si è più sentito se stesso, una situazione che è stata aggravata da un incontro con Covid-19 subito dopo il round di San Diego del 22 gennaio. Roczen non è stato in grado di lasciarsi alle spalle i problemi e, invece di rischiare una spirale discendente della salute e del morale, lui e la sua squadra hanno preso la difficile decisione di ritirarsi. Durante la sua pausa, Roczen cercherà cure professionali da specialisti con cui ha lavorato in passato, compresi alcuni in Europa. La sua data esatta di ritorno dipenderà da come andrà il processo.
“Il continuo supporto della Honda non è secondo a nessuno”, ha detto Roczen. “Non potrei apprezzare di più il modo in cui lavoriamo insieme come partner e prendiamo queste decisioni insieme, anche quando sono davvero difficili. Devo loro un campionato, e questo è il mio obiettivo per il futuro”.
“Mi dispiace vedere Ken in questa situazione”, ha affermato Brandon Wilson, Manager of Sports & Experiential presso American Honda. “Ha dimostrato ad Anaheim 1 di avere ancora la velocità per correre con chiunque, ma le tensioni di questo sport sono tali che aspettarsi di competere in svantaggio non è realistico. Ken ha così tanto cuore e vuole essere là fuori, ma non è nel migliore interesse di chiunque sia coinvolto nelle cose come sono. La salute viene prima di tutto e sappiamo che il tempo libero lo ha aiutato in passato. Ken fa parte della famiglia Honda e sono felice che stia adottando misure per migliorare la sua situazione. Tutti qui sono dietro di lui mentre lavora per tornare al livello in cui sappiamo tutti che merita di essere.

Roczen to Pause 2022 AMA Supercross Campaign

TORRANCE, Calif. (March 8, 2022) – Along with his team and family, Team Honda HRC rider Ken Roczen has decided to take a break from the 2022 AMA Supercross series. Roczen won the January 8 Anaheim 1 season opener in convincing fashion, but his results since then have suffered as he struggles with health issues. With the strains of the hectic racing schedule complicating progress, Roczen will withdraw from the series indefinitely, beginning with this weekend’s Detroit round.
Roczen has dealt with the effects of the Epstein-Barr virus since recovering from serious injuries in 2017 and ’18, although he has made progress at different times – including after sitting out the entire 2020 AMA Pro Motocross series. He was stricken by an unrelated illness at the end of calendar-year 2021 but was nonetheless able to take a surprise win at the first event. Unfortunately, he hasn’t felt like himself since then, a situation that was compounded by a bout with Covid-19 just after the January 22 San Diego round. Roczen hasn’t been able to put the issues behind him, and rather than risk a downward spiral in health and morale, he and his team have made the difficult decision for him to withdraw. During his hiatus, Roczen will seek professional treatment from specialists he has worked with in the past, including some in Europe. His exact return date will depend on how that process goes.
“The continued support of Honda is just second to none,” Roczen said. “I couldn’t be more appreciative of how we work together as partners and make these decisions together, even when they’re really difficult. I owe them a championship, and that’s my focus going forward.”
“I’m sorry to see Ken in this situation,” said Brandon Wilson, Manager of Sports & Experiential at American Honda. “He proved at Anaheim 1 that he still has the speed to run with anyone, but the strains of this sport are such that expecting to compete at a disadvantage isn’t realistic. Ken has so much heart and wants to be out there, but that’s not in the best interests of anyone involved with things as they are. Health comes first, and we know that time off has helped him in the past. Ken is a part of the Honda family, and I’m happy he is taking steps to improve his situation. Everyone here is behind him as he works to return to the level where we all know he deserves to be.”
