MONACO (Principato di Monaco) 2 marzo 2022 – Il Campionato Mondiale FIM Motocross continua questo fine settimana con il secondo round della serie diretto a Mantova per il MXGP di Lombardia .
La scorsa stagione Mantova è stata in prima linea in alcuni dei momenti più memorabili della stagione 2021 e anche nella storia di questo sport, tra cui la vittoria del Team Italia in casa al Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni, la resa dei conti per il titolo tra Jeffrey Herlings della Red Bull KTM Factory Racing , Romain Febvre della Kawasaki Factory Racing e Tim Gajser del Team HRC e l’ultima gara del leggendario Antonio Cairoli .
Questa volta Mantova avrà molto di cui essere all’altezza, ma se le azioni del Gran Premio di Gran Bretagna lo scorso fine settimana sono qualcosa su cui basarsi, non ci si può aspettare niente di meno! Ad unirsi alle stelle della MXGP e della MX2 questo fine settimana ci saranno i piloti EMX250 e Women’s Motocross World Championship per i loro round di apertura della stagione 2021.

Tim Gajser del Team HRC entrerà nel secondo round con la tabella rossa sulla sua CRF450R. Non c’è dubbio che lo sloveno cercherà quell’1-1 che ha mancato di poco a Matterley Basin, dopo essere caduto dal comando in gara due. Gajser ha vinto due volte a Mantova, nel 2016 e nel 2020, ma un’altra vittoria potrebbe essere molto probabile se avesse lo stesso slancio che ha avuto in Gran Bretagna.
A tenerlo sulle spine ci sarà ancora una volta Jorge Prado della Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing, che è arrivato secondo lo scorso fine settimana e ha vinto la seconda gara dopo aver respinto Gajser per la maggior parte della gara. Le partenze sono state un grande vantaggio per Prado che è stato in grado di uscire presto davanti, quindi ci si può aspettare lo stesso questo fine settimana poiché lotterà ancora una volta per il podio, in particolare il gradino più alto che deve ancora raggiungere a Mantova nella categoria MXGP (ha vinto in MX2 nel 2019).
Jeffrey Herlings della Red Bull KTM Factory Racing e Romain Febvre del Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP perderanno ancora una volta il Gran Premio, con il loro ritorno ancora da confermare.
Jeremy Seewer, Maxime Renaux e Glenn Coldenhoff di Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing sono stati in Gran Bretagna il trio che è arrivato rispettivamente terzo, quarto e quinto. Per Seewer, è stata la prima volta in assoluto a finire sul podio nel round di apertura del campionato e sarà senza dubbio motivato a salire sul podio due volte e aggiungere una seconda vittoria in un GP a Mantova, a quella che ha ottenuto nel 2020, che è stata anche la sua prima vittoria in assoluto in un GP nella classe MXGP. Nel frattempo Renaux è stato a dir poco impressionante alla sua prima uscita nella classe MXGP, quindi sarà interessante vedere se riuscirà a portare ancora una volta questa competitività.
Il debuttante MXGP Jed Beaton dell’F&H Kawasaki Racing Team ha ottenuto ottimi risultati durante la sua prima gara nella classe regina finendo sesto assoluto. Sarebbe bello vederlo di nuovo in testa alla classifica questo fine settimana mentre si confronta con la nuova categoria.
Lo stesso vale per Ruben Fernandez della Honda 114 Motorsports che sembrava promettente a Matterley Basin. Lo spagnolo è stato sfortunato in gara uno, ma ha disputato una seconda gara molto più forte dove si è piazzato quinto e ha sicuramente il potenziale per qualcosa in più a Mantova.
Anche Alberto Forato dell’SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery è stato impressionante nel round britannico, ottenendo il suo primo risultato assoluto nella top 10 della stagione, finendo settimo. Dirigendosi verso il suo round di casa, sarebbe bello vederlo basarsi sul suo precedente risultato.
Mentre il connazionale Alessandro Lupino della Beta SDM Corse spera di riprendersi dopo una disastrosa prima uscita con la nuova squadra. Lupino non ha terminato nessuna delle gare MXGP e quindi ha segnato 0 punti lo scorso fine settimana.
Per Arminas Jasikonis di Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Racing è stato più o meno lo stesso, dato che il lituano ha lottato in entrambe le gare e senza dubbio cercherà di migliorare a Mantova.

GP of GREAT BRITAIN 2022 – MATTERLEY BASIN – Results and points!
Nella MX2, il secondo round del Campionato del Mondo MX2 sarà interessante per vedere se Simon Längenfelder della Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing può portare lo stesso tipo di dominio che abbiamo visto a Matterley Basin. Il giovane tedesco ha vinto la gara di qualificazione, entrambe le gare, ha preso entrambe le Fox Hoelshot e ha lasciato il primo round con la tabella rossa. La pressione sarà alta per consegnare qualcosa sulla stessa linea, quindi sarà interessante vedere come potrà adattarsi al circuito più sabbioso.
Nel frattempo, Tom Vialle della Red Bull KTM Factory Racing cercherà ogni opportunità per reagire e ottenere una vittoria in gara e sul gradino più alto del podio. Il francese ha confermato in conferenza stampa di non sentirsi al 100% dopo l’infortunio al piede dell’anno scorso, ma spera di riorganizzarsi a Mantova. Vialle deve ancora vincere a Mantova ma ci è andato vicino prima, quindi forse questa volta sarà il suo turno.
Jago Geerts di Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing cercherà di ripetere il suo successo sul podio a Mantova mentre continua a tornare in forze dopo l’intervento chirurgico al braccio che lo ha visto tornare in moto solo pochi giorni prima del primo GP. Geerts ha il potenziale per essere forte sulla sabbia di Mantova poiché ha vinto il Gran Premio lì tre volte, due nel 2021 e una nel 2020, quindi per quanto riguarda i favoriti, Geerts è tra i primi a vincere.
Il duo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing composto da Kay de Wolf e Roan Van De Moosdijk cercherà quel posto sul podio questo fine settimana dopo aver pareggiato al quarto posto lo scorso fine settimana. Entrambi sono forti corridori sulla sabbia, quindi potrebbero essere seri contendenti per le vittorie in gara e sicuramente per il podio.
Kevin Horgmo di F&H Kawasaki Racing ha mostrato molte promesse nel round di apertura, poiché è arrivato ottavo assoluto ma ha corso con i leader in entrambe le gare. Questa è la prima stagione di Horgmo nella MX2 dopo essere tornato alla EMX250 nel 2021. Ora parte della squadra F&H e sotto la guida dell’ex pilota del GP Marc De Reuver, sarà interessante vedere come Horgmo si sentirà sulla sabbia.
Anche Mikkel Haarup del Big Ban World MTX Kawasaki Racing ha mostrato cosa potrebbe esserci in serbo chiudendo sesto assoluto con un risultato di 8-7 nelle gare. Così come Stephen Rubini del Team Ship to Cycle Honda che era 7° assoluto e Isak Gifting di Hitachi KTM Fuelled by Milwaukee che ha concluso il suo weekend 9° assoluto. Tutti e tre i piloti erano nel mix durante il fine settimana e anche questa volta ci si poteva aspettare lo stesso.
Nel frattempo, il pilota di casa Mattia Guadagnini della Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing dovrà riorganizzarsi e riprendersi dato che attualmente è 10° nella classifica del Campionato del Mondo MX2. Molti si sarebbero aspettati che Guadagnini salisse sul podio nel round di apertura, da quando è salito sul podio in Gran Bretagna lo scorso anno. Ma non era la realtà, dato che un risultato di 13-8 era il meglio che poteva fare. L’MXGP della Lombardia sarà un’opportunità per Guadagnini di reagire e di cui dovrà sfruttare al meglio per rimanere con i contendenti al titolo quest’anno. In precedenza ha vinto a Mantova nelle categorie EMX125 ed EMX250, il che significa che non è estraneo a vincere sulla sabbia dura e potrebbe essere proprio ciò di cui ha bisogno per aumentare la sua fiducia per il resto dell’anno.
Un altro nome da tenere d’occhio al Gran Premio d’Italia è il pilota dell’SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery Andrea Adamo che ha ripreso praticamente da dove aveva interrotto nel 2021. Alla sua prima uscita nel 2022, l’italiano è arrivato 10° assoluto, che è un bel risultato su cui basarsi in questa stagione.

Mantova Awaits Round Two of FIM Motocross World Championship
MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 2 March 2022 – The FIM Motocross World Championship continues this weekend with the second round of the series heading to Mantova for the MXGP of Lombardia.
Last season, Mantova was at the forefront of some of the most memorable moments from the 2021 season and even in history of the sport, including the victory of Team Italy on home soil at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, the intense title showdown between Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings, Kawasaki Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre and Team HRC’s Tim Gajser and the last race of the legendary Antonio Cairoli.
This time around Mantova will have a lot to live up to but if the actions of the British Grand Prix last weekend, are anything to go by, nothing less can be expected!
Joining the MXGP and MX2 stars this weekend will be the EMX250 and Women’s Motocross World Championship riders for their opening rounds of the 2021 season.
Team HRC’s Tim Gajser will enter the second round with the red plate on his CRF450R. There is no doubt that the Slovenian will look for that 1-1 that he so narrowly missed out on in Matterley Basin, after crashing out of the lead in race two. Gajser has won twice in Mantova, which was back in 2016 and 2020 but another win could be highly likely if he carries the same momentum as he had in Great Britain.
There to keep him on his toes once again will be Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado who finished second on the box last weekend and won the second race after fending off Gajser for most of the race. The starts have been a big advantage for Prado who has been able to get out in front early doors, so the same can be expected this weekend as he will once again battle for the podium, especially the top step which he is yet to achieve in Mantova in the MXGP category (he has won in MX2 in 2019).
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings and Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Romain Febvre will once again miss out on the Grand Prix, with their return yet to be confirmed.
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer, Maxime Renaux and Glenn Coldenhoff were out in full force in Great Britain with the trio finishing third, fourth and fifth respectively. For Seewer, it was his first time ever finishing on the box at the opening round of the championship and he will no doubt be motivated to make it back-to-back podiums and add a second GP win in Mantova, to the one he got in 2020, which was also his first ever GP victory in the MXGP class. Meanwhile Renaux was impressive to say the least on his first outing in the MXGP class, so it will be interesting to see if he can bring this competitiveness once again.
MXGP rookie Jed Beaton from F&H Kawasaki Racing Team delivered some strong results during his first race in the premiere class finishing sixth overall. It would be nice to see him at the sharp end again this weekend as he gets to grips with the new category.
Same goes for Honda 114 Motorsports’ Ruben Fernandez who looked promising in Matterley Basin. The Spaniard got unlucky in race one but had a much stronger second race where he placed fifth and definitely has the potential for something more in Mantova.
Alberto Forato of SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery was also impressive at the British round as he delivered his first top 10 overall result of the season, finishing seventh. Heading to his home round, it would be nice to see him build upon his previous result.
While his fellow countryman Alessandro Lupino of Beta SDM Corse will hope to bounce back after a disastrous first outing with the new team. Lupino did not finish either of the MXGP races and therefore scoring 0 points last weekend.
For Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Racing’s Arminas Jasikonis it was much of the same, as the Lithuanian struggled in both races. He DNF’d race one and place 20th in race to and will no doubt be looking to improve in Mantova.

GP of GREAT BRITAIN 2022 – MATTERLEY BASIN – Results and points!
In MX2, the second round of the MX2 World Championship will be interesting to see whether Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Simon Längenfelder can bring the same type of dominance that we saw in Matterley Basin. The young German won the qualifying race, both races, took both Fox Hoelshots and left the first round with the red plate. Pressure will be high to deliver something along the same lines, so it will be interesting to see how he can adapt to the more sandy circuit.
Meanwhile, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle will look for every opportunity to fight back and get himself a race win and on the top step of the podium. The Frenchman confirmed in a press conference that he was not feeling 100% after his foot injury last year but is hoping to re-group in Mantova. Vialle is yet to win in Mantova but has come close before, so maybe this time will be his turn.
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts will look to repeat his podium success in Mantova as he continues to get back to strength after his arm surgery that only saw him back on the bike days before the first GP. Geerts has the potential to be strong in the sand of Mantova as he has won the Grand Prix there three times before, twice in 2021 and once in 2020 so as far as favourites go, Geerts is among the top to win.
Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing duo of Kay de Wolf and Roan Van De Moosdijk will be looking for that podium spot this weekend after tying on points in fourth last weekend. Both are strong sand riders so could be serious contenders for race wins and certainly for the podium.
F&H Kawasaki Racing’s Kevin Horgmo showed a lot of promise at the opening round, as he finished eighth overall but ran with the leaders in both races. This is Horgmo’s first season back in MX2 after he made the move back down to EMX250 in 2021. Now part of the F&H squad and under the guidance of former GP rider Marc De Reuver, it will be interesting to see how Horgmo will match up in the sand.
Big Ban World MTX Kawasaki Racing’s Mikkel Haarup also showed what could be in store as he finished sixth overall with an 8-7 result in the races. As did Stephen Rubini of Team Ship to Cycle Honda who was 7th overall and Isak Gifting of Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee who ended his weekend 9th overall. All three of the riders were right in the mix during the weekend and much of the same could be expected this time too.

Many may have expected Guadagnini to be on the podium at the opening round, since he podiumed in Great Britain last year. But that was not the reality, as a 13-8 result was the best he could do. The MXGP of Lombardia will be an opportunity for Guadagnini to fight back and one that he will need to make the most of, in order to keep with the title contenders this year. He has previously won in Mantova in the EMX125 and EMX250 categories, which means he’s no stranger to winning in the hard sand, and it could be just what he needs to boost his confidence for the remainder of the year.
Another name to look out for at the Italian Grand Prix is SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery rider Andrea Adamo who has picked up pretty much where he left off in 2021. On his first outing in 2022, the Italian has finished 10th overall, which is a nice result to build upon this season.
