Tomac amplia i punti di vantaggio con un’altra vittoria a tripla corona
Eli Tomac di Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing è tornato in cima, segnando la sua seconda vittoria consecutiva Triple Crown della stagione con un risultato di 3-2-2 nella sera all’AT&T Stadium di Arlington, in Texas. La sua terza vittoria della stagione ha contribuito a rafforzare il suo vantaggio nei punti nel campionato Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450SX molto competitiva. Dylan Ferrandis ha mostrato ancora una volta determinazione, tornando dalle avversità per concludere una notte selvaggia di corse al settimo posto con un punteggio di 9-5-8.
Tomac è stato in testa alla classifica delle qualifiche, facendo segnare il giro più veloce negli ultimi istanti della seconda sessione di qualifiche. Nel primo main event della serata non ha ottenuto la partenza sperata e al primo giro era 15°. Il leader dei punti ha abbassato la testa e si è fatto strada verso un impressionante terzo posto. Tomac ha ottenuto una partenza molto migliore nella seconda gara e stava lottando in testa alla terza. È stata una grande battaglia con il suo rivale per il titolo, e alla fine ha preso il secondo posto per mettere il pilota del Colorado in una buona posizione per conquistare la vittoria assoluta.
Nell’ultimo main event, Tomac ha ottenuto una partenza ancora migliore dal cancello, mancando di poco l’holeshot ma rivendicando il comando in anticipo. Ha continuato a spingere ma alla fine è stato superato dal suo rivale in campionato dopo la metà del giro. Sebbene il secondo posto fosse tutto ciò di cui aveva bisogno per assicurarsi la vittoria assoluta, Tomac è rimasto sulla ruota posteriore in attesa di colpire, ma alla fine ha tagliato il traguardo secondo per prendere il primo posto sul podio. Un’altra grande prestazione nell’impegnativo formato a tre gare ha contribuito a espandere il suo vantaggio in campionato a sei punti mentre la serie si avvicina al giro di boa.
Anche il suo compagno di squadra Ferrandis ha avuto un buon inizio di giornata, qualificandosi quarto, e poi ha ottenuto una partenza decente nel primo main event al nono posto. Il francese si è fatto strada in avanti e ha lottato per il sesto posto ma si è agganciato ad un altro pilota a metà gara e si è ritrovato 12°. Ha poi abbassato la testa per salvare un risultato al nono posto. Nel secondo main, ha ottenuto un’altra partenza nella top 10 e ha lottato per ottenere un piazzamento tra i primi cinque.
Ferrandis ha ottenuto la sua miglior partenza della serata nella gara finale, sedendosi sesto dopo il primo giro e avanzando al quinto un paio di giri dopo. Con il progredire della gara, è stata un’altra accesa battaglia per un risultato tra i primi cinque e si è scambiato le posizioni. Sfortunatamente, si è ritrovato di nuovo a terra al 10° giro ma è rientrato nella top 10 per tagliare il traguardo ottavo e concludere la serata al settimo posto assoluto.

“È stata una notte di coerenza per vincere la classifica generale. In quella prima gara, è stata una grande lotta per arrivare al podio e stavo solo caricando. Poi nel secondo ho avuto una bella battaglia con Jason (Anderson). Ci siamo incrociati più volte e sono arrivato secondo. Ho preso un buon slancio in gara tre, quindi sapevo a che punto eravamo e cosa doveva essere fatto. Ho avuto un inizio davvero buono e mi sentivo come se avessi praticamente avuto l’holeshot, ma non del tutto. Poi ho provato a spingere e ho continuato, ma Jason mi ha superato. A quel punto, ho pensato: “Cercherò di agganciarmi alla sua ruota posteriore e forse proverò a fare una mossa più avanti nella gara”, ma non ci sono riuscito. Nel complesso, però, è stata una buona notte per noi, con un’altra vittoria e qualche punto in più in campionato”.

“Ho fatto un’altra buona qualifica, ma ho faticato un po’ alla Triple Crown con alcune cadute ed errori. La moto è stata fantastica, però, e non vedo l’ora che arrivi il prossimo fine settimana. Torneremo al lavoro e ci prepareremo per Daytona”.

Tomac Expands Points Lead with Another Triple Crown Victory
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac returned to the top, scoring his second-consecutive Triple Crown victory of the season with a 3-2-2 result last night at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. His third win of the season helped strengthen his points lead in the hotly contested Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450SX Championship. Dylan Ferrandis once again showed resolve, coming back from adversity to end a wild night of racing in seventh with a 9-5-8 score.
Tomac topped the timesheets in qualifying, setting the fastest lap in the final moments of the second qualifying session. In the first main event of the evening, he didn’t get the start he was hoping for and was 15th after the first lap. The points leader put his head down and charged his way back to an impressive third-place finish. Tomac got a much better start in the second main and was fighting up front in third. It was a great battle with his title rival, and he ultimately took the runner-up spot to put the Colorado rider in a good position to take the overall win.
In the final main event, Tomac got an even better start off the gate, narrowly missing the holeshot but claiming the lead early. He kept pushing but ultimately was passed by his championship rival after the halfway point. Although the runner-up position was all he needed to secure the overall win, Tomac stayed on his rear wheel waiting to strike but ultimately crossed the line second to take the top spot on the podium. Another great performance in the challenging three-race format helped expand his lead in the championship to six points as the series approaches the halfway point.
His teammate Ferrandis also had a good start to the day, qualifying fourth, and then got a decent start in the first main event in ninth. The Frenchman made his way forward and battled for sixth but came together with another rider at the halfway mark and found himself 12th. He then put his head down to salvage a ninth-place result. In the second main, he got another start inside the top 10 and battled to take a top-five finish.
Ferrandis got his best start of the night in the final race, sitting sixth after the first lap and advancing to fifth a couple of laps later. As the race wore on, it was another heated battle for a top-five result, and he exchanged positions. Unfortunately, he found himself on the ground again on Lap 10 but made his way back inside the top 10 to cross the line eighth and end the night seventh overall.
The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing team will head to Round 9 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross on Saturday, March 5, at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.

“The day went well, and both guys qualified like we’ve been qualifying. Tonight was a Triple Crown, so you have to execute three times, and Eli once again was really good with the three-race format, and he did exactly what he had to do to pull off the win. It was pretty crazy out there, and unfortunately, Dylan got caught up with some other riders and struggled a little bit. We’ll rebound this week, do the best we can with testing and get everybody refocused on Daytona. We look to come out swinging next weekend.”

“It was a night of consistency to win the overall. In that first race, it was a big fight back to a podium spot, and I was just charging. Then in the second one, I had a really good battle with Jason (Anderson). We passed each other multiple times, and I ended up finishing second. I took some good momentum into race three, so I knew where we were at and what needed to be done. I had a really good start and felt like I pretty much had the holeshot, but not quite. Then I tried to push and kept going, but Jason got by me. At that point, I was like, ‘I’m going to try and lock on to his rear wheel and maybe try and make a move later on in the race,’ but didn’t quite make it happen. Overall though, it was a good night for us with another win and some more points in the championship.”
