MXGP PRONTO PER L’APERTURA DELLA STAGIONE A MATTERLEY BASIN QUESTO FINE SETTIMANA

MONACO (Principato di Monaco) 16 febbraio 2022 – Il Campionato Mondiale FIM Motocross 2022 è pronto per l’apertura della stagione questo fine settimana a Matterley Basin per l’inizio di un’altra intensa stagione di gare.

L’ampio circuito di Matterley Basin con sede a Winchester, in Inghilterra, è stato la sede del Gran Premio di Gran Bretagna per oltre un decennio e questo fine settimana ospiterà per la dodicesima volta i piloti più veloci del mondo!

Ogni anno, Matterley Basin è una delle migliori sedi in Europa e spesso votata dai piloti come una delle preferite nel calendario delle gare MXGP. Non è solo un ottimo circuito per i migliori piloti del mondo, ma anche ottimo per i fan che possono sempre godersi alcune delle migliori azioni di corsa con il bonus di una visuale libera.

Questa stagione vede il FIM Motocross World Championship tornare alla normalità dopo due difficili stagioni di restrizioni dovute alla pandemia di COVID-19, il che significa il ritorno dei fan sul circuito così come il normale formato di due giorni che significa il ritorno delle qualifiche di gare al sabato!

Oltre all’azione MXGP e MX2, assisteremo anche ai round di apertura dell’EMX125 Presentato da FMF Racing e EMX Open Championship.

UPDATED TIMETABLE MXGP OF GREAT BRITAIN 2022

Ci sono stati molti cambiamenti che hanno avuto luogo durante la bassa stagione, con i piloti che hanno spostato le squadre e le squadre che hanno cambiato i produttori, rendendo il primo round ancora più emozionante mentre vediamo tutti schierarsi con i loro nuovi colori!

L’eroe di casa Ben Watson del Kawasaki Factory Racing Team cercherà di fare il suo debutto con la nuova squadra in modo memorabile e farlo davanti ai suoi fan di casa sarà sicuramente un ulteriore impulso di motivazione e fiducia. Watson ha ottenuto ottimi risultati nelle gare pre-stagionali rendendolo una vera minaccia per il podio.

Il suo nuovo compagno di squadra e contendente al campionato Romain Febvre purtroppo non potrà schierarsi alla prima gara poiché continua a riprendersi da un infortunio subito alla fine dello scorso anno. Questo sarà un duro colpo per Febvre, che spera di vincere di nuovo il titolo in questa stagione dopo aver perso per un soffio il primo posto la scorsa stagione andato a Jeffrey Herlings della Red Bull KTM Factory Racing .

Herlings sarà un altro nome mancante nell’elenco degli iscritti per l’MXGP della Gran Bretagna poiché si riprende anche da un infortunio al tallone che ha raccolto in Spagna. Non c’è una cronologia confermata di quando ci si può aspettare che sia Herlings che Febvre tornino, in entrambi i casi i punti che perderanno saranno costosi per le speranze del titolo.

Questo ovviamente lascia la porta aperta a Tim Gajser del Team HRC per sfruttare al meglio questa opportunità e raccogliere il massimo dei punti possibile se è probabile che vedremo una ripetizione della resa dei conti del titolo 2021. Ogni punto è molto cruciale, come abbiamo visto l’anno scorso, quindi Gajser punterà senza dubbio alla vittoria questo fine settimana e ha una grande possibilità di farlo. Matterley Basin è una delle sue piste preferite e un posto in cui è salito costantemente sul podio. È riuscito a vincere un GP solo una volta (2016) a Matterley Basin, esclusa la sua vittoria al round dell’EMX125 nel 2012, ma questa volta spingerà senza dubbio per una seconda vittoria.

Per la prima volta in un anno vedremo la formazione completa del Team HRC mentre Mitch Evans farà finalmente il suo ritorno nel Campionato del mondo di motocross FIM. L’australiano ha saltato il campionato dell’anno scorso a causa di un infortunio subito nel 2020 che gli ha presentato alcune complicazioni e la guarigione ha richiesto più tempo del previsto. Ma ora tornato in Europa, Evans cercherà di ottenere risultati solidi e recuperare il tempo perso.

Altri contendenti al podio per questo fine settimana includono Jeremy Seewer e Glenn Coldenhoff della Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing. Entrambi i piloti hanno chiuso bene la stagione 2021 con una vittoria per Seewer in Trentino e un podio per Coldenhoff nella stessa sede. Se la coppia è riuscita a mantenere questo slancio per tutta la bassa stagione, non c’è dubbio che potremmo vederli entrambi lottare per un posto in area podio.

C’è anche Jorge Prado della Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing che aiuterà il team nel passaggio da KTM a GasGas. La gestione della squadra rimarrà la stessa con l’unico cambiamento da arancione a rosso.

Con il ritiro di Antonio Cairoli nel 2021, Jorge Prado sarà ora l’unico pilota MXGP per la Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing, poiché ci si può aspettare che lo spagnolo lotterà ancora una volta per vittorie e podi. Sarà interessante vedere se le sue famose partenze rimarranno ineguagliate dal resto del campo o se manterrà quel vantaggio.

Nel 2022, la classe MXGP è piena di talenti in questa stagione e si aggiunge a quella la classe dei debuttanti, tra cui Maxime Renaux di Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing , Ruben Fernandez di Honda 114 Motorsports e Jed Beaton di F&H Kawasaki Racing Team.

Tutti gli occhi saranno puntati su Renaux, che ha scelto di passare alla classe regina dopo essersi assicurato il suo primo titolo mondiale in MX2 lo scorso anno. Renaux ha già mostrato grandi promesse, con alcune ottime gare pre-stagionali e Matterley Basin è una pista su cui sa essere veloce e su cui vincere. Ha vinto il Gran Premio di Gran Bretagna l’anno scorso, quindi questo senza dubbio aggiungerà un po’ di fiducia mentre parteciperà alla sua prima gara MXGP questo fine settimana.

Poi c’è Fernandez che dopo aver disputato alcune gare sulla 450 la scorsa stagione ha deciso di salire anche lui. Lo spagnolo è stato impressionante a Mantova lo scorso anno, ma sarà interessante vedere se il successo della scorsa stagione potrà tradursi in qualcosa di simile quest’anno.

E, ultimo ma non meno importante, c’è anche Beaton. Beaton è tornato nella squadra F&H Kawasaki, un assetto con cui ha familiarità per aver fatto parte della squadra nel 2018. Per la sua stagione da rookie nella classe regina troverà senza dubbio la familiarità della squadra a suo vantaggio poiché cercherà di imparare e fornire alcuni risultati solidi di cui è molto capace.

L’equipaggio di Standing Construct Husqvarna Factory Racing è tra i pochi team che passeranno a un produttore diverso per il 2022 mentre passa da GasGas a Husqvarna, per diventare Standing Construct Husqvarna Factory Racing. I piloti del team Pauls Jonass e Brian Bogers scenderanno al cancello di Matterley Basin cercando di fornire alcuni risultati eccellenti per il produttore.

Un’altra squadra che cambia colore è DIGA PROCROSS KTM RACING . Ora la squadra sarà composta da Thomas Kjer Olsen che ha avuto alcuni momenti impressionanti la scorsa stagione durante il suo primo anno in MXGP, mentre Liam Everts è pronto per passare alla MX2 per la sua prima stagione completa nella categoria.

Nel frattempo , il BETA-SDM Corse MX Team accoglierà anche una nuova aggiunta per la stagione 2022 poiché Alessandro Lupino si unirà a Jeremy Van Horebeek mentre la coppia continuerà a lavorare insieme a Beta per sviluppare una forte moto da cross per il marchio. Lupino ha ottenuto ottimi risultati l’anno scorso e sarà interessante vedere se riuscirà a farne tesoro insieme a Van Horebeek.

Il Team Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Racing accoglierà anche un nuovo volto sotto forma di un alto lituano, Arminas Jasikonis , che gareggerà per il team Yamaha insieme a Calvin Vlaanderen. Entrambi hanno alle spalle alcune gare pre-stagionali, quindi sarà interessante vedere cosa possono portare in Gran Bretagna.

Infine, Nicholas Lapucci del Fantic Factory Team Maddii affronterà la sfida di correre con una due tempi contro le 450 cc nella classe regina. Questa è una mossa interessante per Lapucci che era molto a suo agio con il due tempi la scorsa stagione quando ha conquistato il titolo EMX250. (Purtroppo non ci sarà a Matterley Basin per riprendersi dall’infortunio e partirà dal GP in Italia a Mantova n.d.r.)

 

MXGP 2021 della Gran Bretagna – MXGP Top 3:

Mentre le cose sono destinate ad essere eccitanti in MXGP, la classe MX2 è destinata a offrire altrettanta azione.

Tom Vialle della Red Bull KTM Factory Racing cercherà di rivendicare il titolo mondiale MX2 dopo che un infortunio lo ha portato fuori dalla corsa per il suo secondo campionato lo scorso anno. Ora Vialle arriverà a Matterley Basin in salute, il che ovviamente sarà un inizio di stagione molto migliore rispetto al 2021.

Jago Geerts di Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing sarà tra i suoi più grandi rivali dato che cercherà l’oro per il terzo anno consecutivo. Geerts è venuto meno la scorsa stagione poiché la costanza di Renaux gli ha dato il sopravvento, ma dopo essere salito sul podio in precedenza al Gran Premio di Gran Bretagna, c’è una grande possibilità che potremmo vedere il belga sul podio questo fine settimana.

Le grandi minacce per il podio in questa stagione saranno Kay De Wolf e Roan Van de Moosdijk di Nestaan ​​Husqvarna Factory Racing. De Wolf ha acquisito molta fiducia nell’ultimo anno, essendo salito sul podio più volte in MX2, ora ha le carte in regola per renderlo un evento regolare. Nel frattempo Van de Moosdijk si trova in una posizione molto simile, ma sarà interessante vedere come si sia adattato bene al team ufficiale Husqvarna dopo essere passato da F&H Kawasaki.

Conrad Mewse è un nome ovvio a cui prestare attenzione questo fine settimana, poiché cercherà di fare del suo meglio nel suo Gran Premio di casa. Mewse ha spesso avuto delle belle esibizioni in casa a Matterley Basin e questa stagione non farà eccezione.

Anche Taylor Hammal del DRT Kawasaki cercherà di mettere in scena uno spettacolo per i tifosi di casa insieme al suo nuovo compagno di squadra Mikkel Haarup . La coppia punterà senza dubbio ai massimi risultati per la gara di casa della squadra e per il GP organizzato dal proprietario del team Steve Dixon. Per Haarup, questa potrebbe essere una bella opportunità per consolidare le sue intenzioni per quest’anno e un podio potrebbe essere il modo perfetto per farlo. Il danese è già salito sul podio a Matterley Basin, finendo terzo assoluto nel 2020 durante la sua prima stagione ufficiale in MX2.

Naturalmente, Mattia Guadagnini e Simon Längenfelder della Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing sono un’altra coppia da tenere d’occhio poiché Guadagnini farà il suo debutto con GASGAS e Längenfelder come parte del team De Carli ufficiale. Per Guadagnini, il GP di Gran Bretagna potrebbe essere un’opportunità per iniziare la sua stagione con il botto, avendo assicurato il suo primo podio in assoluto nella MX2 lì solo un anno fa.

Il campionato MX2 di quest’anno accoglierà nuovi volti tra cui Liam Everts del team DIGA PROCROSS KTM RACING . Avendo vinto in precedenza a Matterley Basin durante i suoi giorni in EMX, Everts sarà ovviamente motivato a seguire le orme di suo padre che è stato un vincitore regolare al Gran Premio di Gran Bretagna. Ma a parte questo, quest’anno sarà una curva di apprendimento per il giovane belga e sarà interessante vedere cosa può offrire.

Hakon Fredriksen è un altro nuovo arrivato in MX2 poiché rappresenterà la Honda 114 Motorsports nel 2022. Un podio più volte nella classe EMX250, sarà interessante vedere come gestirà il passaggio dalla EMX alla MX2 quest’anno. Hitachi KTM Fuelled by Milwaukee, Kay Karssemakers si troverà in una situazione simile poiché farà il salto anche dall’EMX.

Nel 2022 vedremo anche il ritorno di Kevin Horgmo nel campionato del mondo, dopo che il norvegese è tornato alla EMX250 lo scorso anno, dove è arrivato secondo. Ora parte dell’F&H Kawasaki Racing Team , Horgmo sarà senza dubbio desideroso di una prestazione superba questo fine settimana per far girare la palla.

Infine, un altro nome da tenere d’occhio in questa stagione è Andrea Adamo dell’SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery. L’italiano ha ottenuto dei buoni risultati nella top 10, soprattutto nella seconda parte della stagione. Quindi, sarebbe bello vederlo costruire su questo quest’anno.

MXGP Fired-Up for Season Opener in Matterley Basin This Weekend

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 16 February 2022 – The 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship is ready for the season opener this weekend in Matterley Basin for the start of another intense season of racing.

The sweeping hard-pack circuit of Matterley Basin based in Winchester, England has been the home of the British Grand Prix for over a decade and this weekend will host the fastest riders in the world for the 12th time!

Each year, Matterley Basin is one of the best venues in Europe and often voted by the riders as one of the favourites on the MXGP racing calendar. It is not only a great circuit for the best riders in the world but also great for the fans who always get to enjoy some of the best racing action with the bonus of unobstructed views.

This season sees the FIM Motocross World Championship return to normality following two tough seasons of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which means the return of fans at the circuit as well as the normal two-day format which means the return of the qualifying races on Saturday!

Alongside the MXGP and MX2 action, we will also witness the opening rounds of the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing and EMX Open Championship.

 

There have been many changes that have taken place in the off-season, with riders moving teams and teams changing manufacturers making the first round even more exciting as we get to see everyone line-up in their new colours!

Home hero Ben Watson of Kawasaki Factory Racing Team will look to make his debut with the new team a memorable one and doing so in front of his home fans will sure be an added boost of motivation and confidence. Watson has had some strong results in the pre-season races making him a real podium threat.

His new teammate and championship contender Romain Febvre will unfortunately not get to line-up at the first race as he continues to recover from an injury sustained at the end of last year. This will be a huge blow for Febvre who is hoping to go for the title again this season after narrowly missing out on the top spot last season to Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings.

Herlings will be another name missing on the entry list for the MXGP of Great Britain as he also recovers from a heel injury that he picked up in Spain. There is no confirmed timeline of when both Herlings and Febvre can be expected to make their return, either way the points that they will miss out on will be costly for the title hopes.

This of course leaves the door open for Team HRC’s Tim Gajser to make the most of this opportunity and pick up the maximum points possible if we are likely to see a repeat of the 2021 title showdown. Every point is very crucial, as we witnessed last year, therefore Gajser will no doubt be aiming for the win this weekend and he has a big chance to do just that. Matterley Basin is one of his favourite tracks and a place where he has pretty consistently been on the podium. He has only managed to win a GP once (2016) in Matterley Basin, not including his win at the round of EMX125 in 2012 but will no doubt push for a second this time around.

For the first time in one year we’ll see the full Team HRC line-up as Mitch Evans will finally make his return to the FIM Motocross World Championship. The Aussie missed last year’s championship due to an injury sustained in 2020 which presented him some complications and healing took longer than expected. But now back in Europe, Evans will look to put in some solid results and make up for lost time.

Other podium contenders for this weekend include Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer and Glenn Coldenhoff. Both of the riders had a strong end to the 2021 season with a win for Seewer in Trentino and a podium for Coldenhoff at the same venue. If the pair have managed to carry that momentum throughout the off-season, there is no doubt that we could see them both fighting for a spot on the box.

There’s also Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado who will help the team with their transition from KTM to GasGas. The team management will remain the same with the only change being from orange to red.

With the retirement of Antonio Cairoli in 2021, Jorge Prado will now be the only MXGP rider for Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing as the Spaniard can be expected to be fighting for race wins and podiums once again. It will be interesting to see whether his famous starts remain unmatched by the rest of the field or whether he will hold on to that advantage.

In 2022, the MXGP class is stacked with talent this season and adding to that is the rookie class including the likes of Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Maxime Renaux, Honda 114 Motorsports’ Ruben Fernandez and F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jed Beaton.

All eyes will be on Renaux who has made the choice to move up to the premiere class after securing his first world title in MX2 last year. Already Renaux has shown great promise, with some strong pre-season races and Matterley Basin is a track he knows how to be fast and win at. He was victorious at the British Grand Prix last year so that will no doubt add some confidence as he enters his first MXGP race this weekend.

Then there’s Fernandez who after doing a few races on the 450 last season decided to make the move up as well. The Spaniard was impressive in Mantova last year, but it will be interesting to see whether his success last season can translate into something similar this year.

And last but not least there’s also Beaton. Beaton is back on the F&H Kawasaki squad, a set-up he is familiar with having been part of the team in 2018. For his rookie season in the top class he’ll no doubt find the familiarity of the team to his advantage as he will look to learn and deliver some solid results that he is very capable of.

Standing Construct Husqvarna Factory Racing crew are among the few teams making the change to a different manufacturer for 2022 as they will move from GasGas to Husqvarna – to become Standing Construct Husqvarna Factory Racing. The team’s riders Pauls Jonass and Brian Bogers will take to the gate in Matterley Basin looking to deliver some top results for the manufacturer.

Another team changing colours is DIGA PROCROSS KTM RACING. Now the squad will consist of Thomas Kjer Olsen who had some impressive moments last season during his first year in MXGP, while Liam Everts is set to make the move up to MX2 for his first full season in the category.

Meanwhile BETA-SDM Corse MX Team will also welcome a new addition for the 2022 season as Alessandro Lupino will join Jeremy Van Horebeek as the pair continue to work together with Beta to develop a strong motocross bike for the brand. Lupino delivered some strong results last year and it will be interesting to see if he can build upon that together with Van Horebeek.

Team Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Racing will also welcome a new face in the form of a tall Lithuanian, Arminas Jasikonis who will contest for the Yamaha team alongside Calvin Vlaanderen. The pair both have some pre-season races under their belts so it will be interesting to see what they can bring to Great Britain.

Finally, Nicholas Lapucci of Fantic Factory Team Maddii will take on the challenge of racing a two-stroke against the 450cc machines in the premiere class. This is an interesting move for Lapucci who was very comfortable on the two-stroke last season as he clinched the EMX250 title.

While things are set to be exciting in MXGP, the MX2 class is bound to deliver just as much action.

Red Bull KTM factory Racing’s Tom Vialle will look to claim back the MX2 world title after an injury took him out of the running for his second championship last year. Now Vialle will arrive in Matterley Basin healthy which will of course be a much better start to his season compared to 2021.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts will be among his biggest rivals as he will go for gold for the third year in a row. Geerts came short last season as Renaux’s consistency gave him the upper hand, but having podiumed at the British Grand Prix previously, there’s a big chance we could see the Belgian on the box this weekend.

Big podium threats this season will be Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay De Wolf and Roan Van de Moosdijk. De Wolf has been gained a lot of confidence in the last year, having podiumed several times in MX2, he now has what it takes to make this a regular occurrence. Meanwhile Van de Moosdijk is in a very similar position, but it will be interesting to see how well he has settled into the factory Husqvarna team after making the switch from F&H Kawasaki.

Conrad Mewse is an obvious name to look out for this weekend, as he will look to put his best foot forward at his home Grand Prix. Mewse has often had some nice performances on home soil in Matterley Basin and this season will be no exception.

Also looking to put on a show for the home fans will be Taylor Hammal of DRT Kawasaki alongside his new teammate Mikkel Haarup. The pair will no doubt be aiming for top results for the team’s home race and with that being the GP organised by the team owner Steve Dixon. For Haarup, this could be a nice opportunity to solidify his intentions for this year and a podium could be the perfect way to do it. The Dane has podiumed in Matterley Basin before, finishing third overall in 2020 during his first official season in MX2.

Of course, Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Mattia Guadagnini and Simon Längenfelder are another pair to look out for as Guadagnini will make his debut with GASGAS and Längenfelder as part of the factory De Carli team. For Guadagnini, the British GP could be an opportunity to start his season with a bang, having secured his first ever MX2 podium there just a year ago.

This year’s MX2 championship will welcome some new faces including Liam Everts of the DIGA PROCROSS KTM RACING team. Having previously won in Matterley Basin during his EMX days, Everts will of course be motivated to follow in the footsteps of his father who was a regular winner at the British Grand Prix. But that aside, this year will be a learning curve for the young Belgian and it will be interesting to see what he can deliver.

Hakon Fredriksen is another newcomer to MX2 as he will represent Honda 114 Motorsports in 2022. A multi-time podium finisher in the EMX250 class, it will be interesting to see how he will manage the transition from EMX to MX2 this year. Hitachi KTM Fuelled by Milwaukee’s newest addition Kay Karssemakers will be in a similar situation as he will be making the move up from EMX as well.

In 2022, we will also see the return of Kevin Horgmo in the world championship, after the Norwegian stepped back to EMX250 last year, where he finished as runner up. Now part of the F&H Kawasaki Racing Team, Horgmo will no doubt be keen for a superb performance this weekend to get the ball rolling.

Finally, another name to look out for this season is Andrea Adamo of SM Action Racing Team YUASA Battery. The Italian had some good top 10 results, especially in the second half of the season. So, it would be good to see him build upon that this year.
