Kawasaki Racing Team pronto per la campagna MXGP 2022
Il Kawasaki Racing Team entrerà di nuovo nel Campionato del Mondo FIM Motocross con un forte schieramento nella classe regina MXGP; la serie 2022 inizia il 19-20 febbraio a Matterley Basin (Regno Unito).
Il 2021 è stato un finale epico di stagione in cui tre piloti si sono dati battaglia fino alla manche finale per il titolo e con la medaglia d’argento, guidata dal più piccolo dei margini, Romain Febvre ha regalato a Kawasaki il suo miglior risultato di sempre nel premier MXGP class. Il trentenne francese tornerà ad essere il leader della KRT dopo aver firmato un nuovo contratto biennale direttamente con la casa giapponese che ora sarà ancora più coinvolta nel nuovo progetto in quanto passano le redini del Kawasaki Racing Team alla leggenda della Formula 1 Kimi Raikkonen e al precedente vincitore del GP di motocross Antti Pyrhonen. Entrambi sono stati coinvolti nello sport per molti anni e quest’anno celebrano il loro decimo anniversario in MXGP. In effetti, la loro prima stagione insieme è stata su moto Kawasaki private e ora sono tornati al Green per correre l’assalto del Factory Kawasaki Racing Team con il pieno supporto di KMC Japan e KME. L’inglese Ben Watson, compagno di allenamento di lunga data di Romain Febvre, entrerà nella sua seconda stagione nella classe MXGP dopo un forte anno di apprendimento nel 2021; il giovane talento britannico è pronto per entrare nelle gare di pre-stagione questo fine settimana in Sardegna e una settimana dopo in Francia.
Steve Guttridge (Race Planning Manager – Kawasaki Motors Europe – KME): “Nell’ottobre del 2021 è stata fondata in Giappone una nuova società e entità legale nota come Kawasaki Motors Ltd – KMC per concentrarsi più direttamente sul business delle motociclette Kawasaki che include le nostre corse ufficiali. La nuova società e il management saranno strategicamente coinvolti nell’utilizzo dell’attività agonistica MXGP del Kawasaki Racing Team, insieme alla propria ricerca e sviluppo all’interno dell’arena MXGP in modo più diretto che in passato per integrare le innovazioni nei futuri modelli di produzione KX per i nostri base di clienti in tutto il mondo da utilizzare nei propri sforzi di corsa. Il Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP ha un ruolo enorme e complesso da svolgere; crediamo che il team continuerà ad aiutarci a fare grandi passi avanti verso il nostro obiettivo finale di diventare Campione del Mondo MXGP. ”
Kimi Räikkönen (Team Principal – KRT MXGP): “Non è un segreto che, per me, una delle mie grandi passioni nella vita per molti anni è stata il motocross, ma questa squadra non è quello che si potrebbe definire un hobby; è molto serio, molto concentrato e aspiriamo a essere il meglio che possiamo. Ora che mi sono ritirato dalle corse potrò dedicare più tempo a questo progetto; non sulle questioni quotidiane ma più da un punto di vista strategico utilizzando la mia esperienza su come funzionano i team e cosa crea successo sulla scena mondiale. Tutti, me compreso, sono felici che Kawasaki ci abbia scelto come team Factory. So che le possibilità di successo sono sempre maggiori con il supporto diretto della factory, quindi questo si traduce in una grande opportunità per noi come nuovo Kawasaki Racing Team in MXGP”.
Antti Pyrhonen (Team manager – KRT MXGP): “Da quando sono entrato a far parte del team di Kimi dieci anni fa, non abbiamo mai smesso di lavorare sodo per ottenere i migliori risultati nella classe MXGP e, dopo aver ottenuto dei buoni risultati con numerose vittorie e podi, ora avere l’opportunità di lavorare a stretto contatto con una prestigiosa factory. Stiamo già lavorando a questo nuovo progetto da diversi mesi e siamo ovviamente lieti di avere questa opportunità di unirci a Kawasaki e di dirigere il Kawasaki Racing Team. La classe MXGP è l’apice del nostro sport e sappiamo quanto sia competitiva la serie, ma guardiamo a questa nuova sfida con ottimismo poiché abbiamo due piloti forti e veloci per entrare in questo nuovo capitolo con una fabbrica alle spalle”.
Romain Febvre: “Di sicuro non è stato il mio miglior inverno da quando ho iniziato a correre. È sempre frustrante riprendersi da un infortunio mentre i tuoi rivali stanno lavorando in pista, ma è così; gli infortuni fanno parte del nostro sport. La mia guarigione sta procedendo bene e non vedo l’ora di tornare in sella alla mia Kawasaki. Il campionato sarà ancora lungo e farò del mio meglio per iniziare a correre il prima possibile. Il 2021 è stata sicuramente una grande stagione per me; Mi sono sentito così a mio agio sulla KX450-SR e ho lottato per il titolo fino all’ultima manche. Firmare un accordo ufficiale di due anni con il Giappone è stato un bene per la mia fiducia, ed è un’altra spinta per essere coinvolti nel nuovo progetto sin dal primo giorno”.
Ben Watson: “Non ci sono così tante corse ufficiali nella classe MXGP, quindi sono molto orgoglioso di essere stato selezionato dal Kawasaki Racing Team per il mio secondo anno in questo campionato. È un nuovo capitolo della mia carriera ed è fantastico lavorare a stretto contatto con Romain; ci conosciamo e ci apprezziamo perché ci siamo allenati insieme in passato. Ho imparato molto durante la mia stagione da rookie e sono fiducioso per la stagione a venire perché ho visto quanto è forte la squadra dopo aver condiviso del tempo insieme già da un paio di mesi. È davvero emozionante far parte di questa nuova sfida”.

Kawasaki Racing Team ready for 2022 MXGP campaign
The Kawasaki Racing Team will again enter the FIM Motocross World Championship with a strong line-up in the premier MXGP class; the 2022 series starts on February 19-20 at Matterley Basin (UK).
2021 was an epic end-of-season as three riders battled all the way down to the final moto for the title and with the silver medal, headed by the slenderest of margins, Romain Febvre gave Kawasaki its best-ever result in the premier MXGP class. The thirty-year-old Frenchman will again be the leader of KRT after signing a new two-year-deal directly with the Japanese factory which will now be even more deeply-involved in the new project as the reins of the Kawasaki Racing Team pass to Formula One legend Kimi Raikkonen and past motocross GP winner Antti Pyrhonen. Both have been involved in the sport for many years and celebrate their tenth anniversary in MXGP this year. In fact, their first season together was on private Kawasaki machinery, and they are now back in Green to run the Factory Kawasaki Racing Team assault with full support from KMC Japan and KME. England’s Ben Watson, a long-time training partner of Romain Febvre, will enter his second season in the MXGP class after a strong learning year in 2021; the young British talent is ready to enter the pre-season races this weekend on the island of Sardinia and one week later in France.
Steve Guttridge (Race Planning Manager – Kawasaki Motors Europe – KME): “In October of 2021 a new company and legal entity known as Kawasaki Motors Ltd – KMC was established in Japan to focus more directly on the Kawasaki motorcycle business which includes our factory racing team projects. The new company and management will be strategically involved in utilising the Kawasaki Racing Team’s MXGP racing activity, along with their own Research and Development. inside the MXGP arena more directly than in the past to integrate innovations into future KX production models for our worldwide customer base to use in their own racing endeavours. The Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP has a massive and complex role to fulfil; we believe that the team will continue to help us make big strides towards our ultimate goal of becoming MXGP World Champion. “
Kimi Räikkönen (Team principal – KRT MXGP): “It’s no secret that, for me, one of my great passions in life for many years has been motocross but this team is not what you might call a hobby; it’s very serious, very focused and we aspire to be the best we possibly can. Now I have retired from racing I will be able to spend more time on this project; not on the daily issues but more from a strategic point of view using my experience of how teams work and what creates success on the world stage. Everyone including myself is delighted that Kawasaki has chosen us to be the Factory team. I know that the chance of success is always greater with direct factory support so this translates into a great opportunity for us as the new Kawasaki Racing Team in MXGP.”
Antti Pyrhonen (Team manager – KRT MXGP): “Since I joined Kimi’s team ten years ago we have never stop working hard to get the best results in the MXGP class and, after we achieved some good results with numerous wins and podiums, we now have the opportunity to work closely with a prestigious factory. We have been working on this new project for several months already and we are of course delighted to have this opportunity to join Kawasaki and to run the Kawasaki Racing Team. The MXGP class is the pinnacle of our sport and we know how competitive the series is, but we are looking to this new challenge with optimism as we have two strong and fast riders to enter this new chapter with a factory behind us.”
Romain Febvre: “For sure it has not been my best winter since I started racing. It’s always frustrating to be recovering from an injury while your rivals are working on the tracks but that’s how it is; injuries are part of our sport. My recovery is going well and I can’t wait to get back on my Kawasaki. The championship will again be long and I will do my best to start racing as soon as possible. 2021 was definitely a great season for me; I felt so comfortable on the KX450-SR and I was fighting for the title until the very last moto. Signing a two-year factory deal with Japan was good for my confidence, and it is another boost to be involved in the new project from day one.”
Ben Watson: “There aren’t so many factory rides in the MXGP class so I’m very proud to be selected by the Kawasaki Racing Team for my second year in this championship. It’s a new chapter of my career and it’s great to work closely with Romain; we know and appreciate each other as we have trained together in the past. I learnt a lot during my rookie season and I am confident for the season ahead as I have seen how strong the team is after sharing time together for a couple of months already. It’s really exciting to be part of this new challenge.”
