E’ doveroso farla, sopratutto perchè si leggono o sentono un pò di castronerie e la PRIMA è sempre la PRIMA, vuoi essere navigato o un rookie ma la PRIMA è sempre la PRIMA e che considerazioni vuoi fare???? Poche, la prima serve a testare la concorrenza, a vedere se sei in ordine con le scelte dei test pre campionato, perchè la condizione, se non hai avuto infortuni o altro, è sempre ottima ma, ci si deve abituare al ritmo gara e con la prima gara non ti ci abitui, lo fai dopo diverse gare e entrare in forma lo si fa dopo 6/7 gare e allora di cosa parliamo? Di quel casino che è successo dietro Roczen che fortunatamente per lui è riuscito a sgattaiolare via prendendo un bel margine di 12 secondi per poi amministrare fino alla bandiera a scacchi!
In sostanza, facendola breve, il round di apertura di Monster Energy Supercross produce spesso vincitori a sorpresa ma anche gare dolci, la pista solitamente è ammorbidita per non “distruggere” i piloti….. La pista del primo round è solitamente progettata per consentire ai piloti di ambientarsi nella serie e i piloti sono solitamente tesi e nervosi…..Beh, quest’anno è diverso, si è ripreso con un calendario uguale a quelle pre-covid, ogni Sabato è gara, spettatori al completo e tensione, lo ripetiamo, a mille!!! La pista era bella come progettazione, ma tosta e l’azione era intensa come un round di metà stagione della serie, per questo è successo di tutto, cadute, passaggi duri, alcuni sfortunati infortuni e tonnellate di azione. Barcia non riesce a riconfermarsi il vincitore del round d’apertura e la leggenda che il primo a vincere non vincerà il campionato è e rimane una leggenda, tanto che negli anni Villopoto, McGrath, Carmichael e anche Stewart hanno vinto la prima e vinto il titolo!
Ken Roczen ha detto di aver avuto un dicembre orribile segnato dalla malattia, quindi anche mentre ha sparato al main, ha resistito solo per pochi giri prima che il suo compagno di squadra Chase Sexton iniziasse a montare un attacco. Sembrava che Sexton fosse pronto per fare il passaggio e scappare per la sua prima vittoria in carriera sulla 450SX, finché la sua Honda lo ha gettato in terra, ma come dice lui errori suoi non della moto che, agli occhi di tutti sembra essere messa meglio di tutte.
Cooper Webb ha fatto quello che sa fare, parte nel gruppo di testa e gestisce la gara, si scalda e piano piano arriva secondo, con la moto nuova e lo stesso fa Musquin che si imbatte in un incidente con Stewart(Dice che Malcolm non lo ha visto ma noi crediamo che se tagli la strada ti sei messo davanti all’ultimo ed è normale non vederti, occhio Marvin che mancano 16 gare!), male Plessinger, vedremo nelle prossime gare come fa!
Justin Barcia ha gestito la pressione del dover riconfermarsi il vincitore dell’apertura, ma era sereno, forse non gli interessava molto, fatto sta che ha lottato per tenere la sua posizione, in molti dicono il solito Barcia, ma ragazzi, si deve difendere la posizione e se la perdi devi riprenderla, non si stanno pettinando le bambole, si sta lottando per un campionato, Anderson doveva saperlo che doveva entrare sulla sponda più stretto o più veloce, in sostanza, se guardate e riguardate, Barcia non ha fatto una mossa scorretta, ha cercato di riprendersi la posizione e così è stato, caso chiuso, attendiamo il secondo, terzo, quarto, quinto……round!
Parliamo subito di Eli Tomac sulla moto Monster Energy/Star Yamaha Racing, parte dall’11° posto nel primo giro, ma era anche più indietro, ho sentito dire che non si trova sulla moto….ah, se lo capite da una gara siete bravi, io ho visto che ha chiuso al 6° posto in un Anaheim tosta e difficile come terreno e tracciato, per noi è positiva come prima gara, le partenze, ne ha sempre centrate poche, ma se consideriamo che negli ultimi anni la sua prima è sempre stata disastrosa salvo il 2019 che ha chiuso a podio, i tempi di Eli erano ottimi e per poco non fa la pole, quindi mi tocca dire che si trova bene, sopratutto col programma d’allenamento di gruppo….lo aspettiamo e crediamo ci sia! Peccato per la prestazione di Dylan Ferrandis, ma si rimedierà!
Ultima nota, Malcoml Stewart ha guidato alla grande nelle prove libere, ma era solo una parte del gruppo di testa nella parte principale, ma Musquin è sfrecciato all’interno ed entrambi sono caduti. Stewart ha recuperato per il settimo posto. Finita la gara è andato da a discutere bello incazzato con Musquin, giustamente diciamo noi, forse l’azione più brutta della gara, poteva mandare tutti e due in infermeria e perdere due pretendenti al titolo…..già, perchè crediamo che quest’anno ci possono essere ben 11 piloti a vincere un main event e più o meno per vincere il titolo!
Piccola menzione per Jason Anderson, la velocità c’era, la guida pure, peccato per quel contatto con Barcia che se fosse andato tutto liscio il suo 10° sarebbe stato un 2°, occhio che anche lui ci sembra motivato e carico!
SABATO saremo ancora qui e non vediamo l’ora di capire meglio come sta andando la stagione!

Ken Roczen: I really don’t know what to say. Our December had been horrendous. The team and I did everything we could to get better for this race. I didn’t expect a win at all coming here. We’re really focused on our starts and everything went right, I’m really thankful for that. Towards the end I just wanted to keep it on two wheels, I haven’t often had a gap like that.
Cooper Webb: “It was a dog fight tonight! Fun race, but a really tough race. The track got super rough and a lot of us got out front just duking it out. I felt like I fought hard the whole time, made some good passes and got myself in a really good position. I kind of struggled a little bit with the track so I was pumped to come out with a second – great points and it’s the best I’ve ever done at the opener so we’re looking to keep the ball rolling. It’s great to be back in Anaheim and it’s fun to be back racing!”
Justin Barcia: “That was an awesome race! I had a lot of fun and we had some great battles out there. The pressure is off now and I can work on myself, keep plugging along and having fun. It’s been a great offseason and it’s just good to get this first race out of the way. I’m happy with the result, it’s a good podium finish, and we definitely have some things to build on. I’m really looking forward to the next race, bonding with the guys, having fun and going for it!”
Marvin Musquin: “I’m happy right now. It was a long and tough day, with quite a fight for the Main Event. I did my best with outside gate pick and I made some good passes, so I was pumped on the riding and the intensity early on. I made a couple mistakes and I lost contact with Cooper, and then Malcolm passed me. I tried to pass him to the inside but unfortunately, he railed the corner and we hit each other – he didn’t know I was coming – and we both went down. I got up and came back to fourth place, that was amazing. I’m pumped on the push and with the results, to be honest, with all the drama that happened during the main.”
Chase Sexton: I kinda feel like an idiot for making those mistakes, it was a tough one. The first crash kind of caught me off guard, and the second one was pretty much me just riding off emotion. Unfortunate for me but I showed a lot of fight in that one. I didn’t give up, Marvin and I had a good few battles there, he ended up getting me at the end. That was frustrating because it’s not the first time I was the fastest but I didn’t get the win.
Eli Tomac: “It was a little bit of a slower start than what we wanted this season. It really came down to two things tonight: the starts and I was struggling a little bit with the whoops. It was a tough track; probably one of the toughest A1’s that we’ve had in quite some time. On a positive note, I had really good qualifying sessions all day, so I know I can be fast and be there. I just have to put it all together. It’s always easier said than done, but it’s possible. We’re going to try and fix the little things and come back next week.”
Malcolm Stewart: “I think this was actually one of the better season openers for me since I started in the 450 class. Going into the weekend, I wanted to execute a few things like having a good heat race, and I was able to do that. P1 for a qualifying, I’ve never done that before, so I feel like that was a big achievement for me and even though we went down in the Main Event, it was actually a good ride performance-wise but you know, the results weren’t there. It was a good start but I definitely feel there are a few things that we need to work on but overall, I’m happy to leave here on a good note and looking forward to Oakland and to keep driving – we’ve got 16 more races to go!
Jason Anderson: “I definitely think today could have gone better. My speed was right there with the top guys, and I felt like my KX450SR was handling so well. In the main, I spent a few laps planning my pass for second and did the best I could to make a clean move and ride away. Unfortunately, I can’t control how other riders respond, but that’s racing. It was a tough one, but we live to fight another day. Time to switch gears and focus on Oakland.”
