Moto: i primi 7 in soli 8 minuti!
Adrien Van Beveren potrebbe essere in testa alla classifica generale, ma il francese ha un vantaggio di soli cinque minuti sul trio di moto austriache guidato da Matthias Walkner davanti a Kevin Benavides e Sam Sunderland. Alle loro spalle Lorenzo Santolino sulla sua Sherco e le due Honda guidate da Pablo Quintanilla e Joan Barreda. L’apertura di oggi è di un altro pilota Honda, ovvero Nacho Cornejo, che ieri ha assaporato la vittoria. Il cileno non ha paura di mostrare le sue intenzioni per la seconda settimana del rally: “Questa settimana è il momento di dare uno sguardo diverso alla gara: abbiamo completato la prima settimana e sappiamo che dovremo pensare ad attaccare prima della fine ”.

11:42 Moto: Sunderland mantiene il comando
Dopo 280 km, Sam Sunderland (GasGas) vantava il miglior tempo della giornata, 2’02” davanti a Walkner e 2’10” davanti a Quintanilla’. Van Beveren ha seguito l’inglese di 6’59”, il che significa che Sunderland è il leader della classifica generale virtuale davanti a VBA e Walkner. Meno di trenta secondi hanno separato il pilota KTM e Yamaha in questa battaglia per il secondo posto provvisorio in classifica generale. Cornejo e Barreda hanno perso tempo un po’ più avanti mentre cercavano un waypoint. Hanno già raggiunto il traguardo, ma solo quando arriverà Sunderland sapremo l’esito della giornata.

Adrien Van Beveren, ora indietro di oltre 6 minuti rispetto all’attuale leader di tappa, ha perso la testa della classifica generale virtuale a favore di Sunderland.

Sam Sunderland è ancora in testa dopo 170 km e il pilota inglese ha ora un vantaggio di 5’30” sul cognato Adrien Van Beveren. Di conseguenza, nella classifica generale virtuale, Sunderland è a soli 8 secondi dal francese, con il pilota GasGas che si avvicina alla rappresentativa Yamaha!

Danilo Petrucci, che è stato il 47° pilota ad iniziare la speciale, ha davanti a sé un viale perfettamente segnalato. L’italiano, che ieri ha ammesso di essersi perso un centinaio di volte, sta sfruttando le piste degli avversari e occupa attualmente il 10° posto al primo controllo orario, a meno di un minuto da Sam Sunderland. “Petrux” potrebbe ancora ritrovarsi sul podio di oggi.

Al WP2 (dopo 86 km), Sam Sunderland vanta un vantaggio di oltre 1’30” su Joan Barreda e 1’45” su Matthias Walkner. Giornata complicata per Adrien Van Beveren, che ha perso quasi 3’30” contro Sunderland.

Nacho Cornejo, che sta aprendo la strada con Joan Barreda, ha perso più di due minuti al secondo check point contro il compagno di squadra spagnolo. Per vedere se il cileno ha perso altro tempo bisognerà attendere l’arrivo di Sam Sunderland. La situazione è simile per Adrien Van Beveren che ha perso 1’48” al WP2, il che significa che i divari nelle classifiche generali si stanno ulteriormente stringendo!

Essendo il 28° pilota a partire, Sam Sunderland ha approfittato delle piste dei suoi rivali. Il pilota britannico ha ottenuto il miglior tempo finora al WP1, con un vantaggio di quasi 30” su Ricky Brabec e Joan Barreda. Matthias Walkner, il 24° pilota ad iniziare la tappa, è il pilota KTM di testa al quarto posto, a 36” dall’inglese. Adrien van Beveren, il pilota Honda leader nella gerarchia delle tappe, ha già perso più di un minuto contro Sunderland, suo cognato.

Štefan Svitko, il 15° pilota a cimentarsi con la speciale, quest’anno parteciperà alla sua 13° Dakar, ancora una volta da corsaro. All’inizio dell’ottava tappa, lo slovacco occupava l’ottavo posto, a soli 20 minuti da Adrien Van Beveren. Meglio di così: non è stato fuori dalla top 10 dalla tappa 2, che è una bella prestazione contro i piloti del team ufficiale.

Ross Branch, assente questa mattina al via, non proseguirà le gare, il che, secondo la dirigenza del team Yamaha, è una decisione sensata. Tre piloti ufficiali hanno abbandonato il rally, ovvero Daniel Sanders (GasGas), Skyler Howes (Husqvarna) e ora Ross Branch (Yamaha), sui 19 che hanno iniziato la Dakar (4 Honda, 3 KTM, 3 Yamaha, 3 Sherco , 2 Eroe, 2 Husqvarna e 2 GasGas).

Nella categoria Original by Motul riservata ai bikers non assistiti, ha trionfato ieri Benjamin Melot, terzo nella disciplina lo scorso anno. Questa vittoria gli ha permesso di salire al quarto posto della classifica generale a oltre 1 ora e 30 minuti da Arūnas Gelažninkas, che ha allungato ancora un po’ il suo vantaggio. Il lituano ora vanta un vantaggio di oltre un’ora su Milan Engel e l’esordiente sudafricano Charan Moore.

Ross Branch, che doveva essere il 13° pilota a partire questa mattina, è assente oggi. L’uomo del Botswana, che ieri era ancora gravemente ferito e zoppicava dopo essere caduto nella sesta tappa, è rimasto al bivacco. Dopo GasGas e Husqvarna, ora tocca alla Yamaha avere un rappresentante in meno.

After 280 km, Sam Sunderland (GasGas) boasted the day’s best time, 2’02’’ in front of Walkner and 2’10’’ ahead of Quintanilla’. Van Beveren trailed the Englishman by 6’59” meaning Sunderland is the virtual general rankings leader ahead of VBA and Walkner. Less than thirty seconds separated the KTM and Yamaha rider in this battle for provisional second place in the general standings. Cornejo and Barreda lost time a little further on whilst looking for a waypoint. They have already reached the finishing line, but only when Sunderland arrives will we know the outcome of the day.

The Italian, who admitted yesterday that he had got lost a hundred times, is taking advantage of his rivals’ tracks and currently occupies 10th place at the first time check, less than one minute behind Sam Sunderland. “Petrux” could still yet find himself on today’s podium.
