RED BULL KTM’S COOPER WEBB KICKS OFF 2022 WITH A STRONG PODIUM AT ANAHEIM SX

ANAHEIM, California – Il team Red Bull KTM Factory Racing ha ottenuto risultati solidi a bordo della nuovissima KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION all’attesissimo debutto del campionato AMA Supercross di sabato. Con una straordinaria prestazione sul podio dal campione in carica della 450SX Cooper Webb al secondo posto, e il compagno di squadra Marvin Musquin che è arrivato appena fuori dal podio, quarto, la Red Bull KTM ha iniziato positivamente la stagione delle gare 2022.

Con il proverbiale peso della targa n. 1, Webb ha accolto con favore la sfida mentre è uscito dalla linea per catturare un terzo posto nella gara di apertura della 450SX. Ha corso tra i primi tre per i primi quattro giri fino a quando un piccolo ribaltamento lo ha riportato indietro di un paio di posizioni a metà gara. Si è rapidamente ripreso per assicurarsi un trasferimento al quinto posto nel Main Event.

Nel complesso, Webb si è ritrovato nel bel mezzo di una battaglia tra i primi cinque ed è stato circondato da una vasta gamma di piloti di talento in testa. Il due volte campione SX si è fatto strada costantemente verso il podio e, a sei giri dalla fine, è arrivato terzo. Determinato a finire forte all’apertura della stagione, Webb ha continuato la sua carica fino ad ottenere il secondo posto nella notte.

Cooper Webb: “Stasera è stata una rissa di cani! Gara divertente, ma davvero dura. La pista è diventata molto accidentata e molti di noi sono usciti davanti solo per affrontarla. Mi sentivo come se avessi lottato duramente per tutto il tempo, fatto dei buoni sorpassi e mi fossi trovato davvero in una buona posizione. Ho faticato un po’ con la pista, quindi ero entusiasta di uscire con un secondo: ottimi punti ed è il migliore che abbia mai fatto all’apertura, quindi stiamo cercando di mantenere la palla al balzo. È fantastico essere di nuovo ad Anaheim ed è divertente tornare a correre!”

Musquin, il sesto posto di qualifica, ha ottenuto una partenza tra i primi cinque proprio dietro a Webb nella 450SX Heat 1, e ha corso un ritmo solido in testa per la maggior parte della gara. Dopo essere stato raggiunto da un altro pilota in alto all’angolo, Musquin è stato espulso nei blocchi difficili e ha perso molto tempo per tornare in pista. Trovandosi ben al di fuori della posizione delle qualifiche a pochi giri dalla fine, il pilota francese ha spinto fino all’ultimo giro per ottenere un ottavo posto di trasferimento.

Marvin Musquin: “Sono felice in questo momento. È stata una giornata lunga e difficile, con una bella lotta per il Main Event. Ho fatto del mio meglio con la scelta del cancello esterno e ho fatto dei buoni passaggi, quindi sono stato pompato per la guida e l’intensità all’inizio. Ho fatto un paio di errori e ho perso i contatti con Cooper, e poi Malcolm mi ha superato. Ho provato a passarlo all’interno ma sfortunatamente ha sbarrato l’angolo e ci siamo picchiati – non sapeva che stavo arrivando – e siamo caduti entrambi. Mi sono alzato e sono tornato al quarto posto, è stato fantastico. Sono pompato dalla spinta e dai risultati, a dire il vero, con tutto il dramma che è successo durante il main”.

Il nuovo pilota della Red Bull KTM, Aaron Plessinger, ha avuto un inizio di stagione difficile poiché ha subito un paio di cadute durante le prove libere e le qualifiche. Recuperando un insolito 19° posto in qualifica, Plessinger è uscito oscillando quando il cancello è caduto mentre ha ottenuto una partenza tra i primi cinque nella 450SX Heat 2.  Stabilindosi su un buon ritmo a bordo della nuova KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, Plessinger è arrivato forte a metà strada durante la gara per assicurarsi un solido quarto posto.

Nel Main Event, Plessinger non ha ottenuto la migliore partenza e si è ritrovato al 15° posto nel primo giro. Ha scheggiato per tutta la gara per farsi strada nella top-10 negli ultimi giri, finendo infine nono nella sua prima gara con la squadra.

Aaron Plessinger: “In realtà è stata una giornata piuttosto dura per me. Ho iniziato nelle prove libere scendendo e poi sono caduto anche nelle prime prove di qualificazione. L’ho girato e ho fatto dei giri decenti nella seconda qualifica, ma non era un’ottima posizione. Ho avuto una partenza decente nella heat e sono corso quarto praticamente per tutto il tempo. Nel complesso, non sono partito affatto bene ed ero nel retro del gruppo a combattere. Circa a metà, ho alzato un po’ il ritmo e ho fatto alcuni passaggi fino al nono posto. Nel complesso, sono entusiasta di superare il primo round in salute e ci torneremo a Oakland!”

RED BULL KTM’S COOPER WEBB KICKS OFF 2022 WITH A STRONG PODIUM AT ANAHEIM SX

 
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team delivered solid results aboard the all-new KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION at Saturday’s highly anticipated AMA Supercross Championship opener. With a striking podium performance from defending 450SX Champion Cooper Webb in second, and teammate Marvin Musquin finishing just off the podium in fourth, Red Bull KTM is off to a positive start to the 2022 race season.
 
With the proverbial weight of the No. 1 plate, Webb welcomed the challenge as he charged off the line to capture a third-place start in the opening 450SX heat race. He raced inside the top three for the first four laps until a small tip-over dropped him back a couple positions halfway through the race. He swiftly recovered to secure a fifth-place transfer into the Main Event.
 
In the main, Webb found himself in the thick of an early top-five battle and he was surrounded by a deep pool of talented riders up front. The two-time SX champ steadily worked his way toward the podium and with six laps to go, he made his move into third. Determined to finish strong at the season opener, Webb continued his charge to ultimately land second-place on the night. 
 
Cooper Webb: “It was a dog fight tonight! Fun race, but a really tough race. The track got super rough and a lot of us got out front just duking it out. I felt like I fought hard the whole time, made some good passes and got myself in a really good position. I kind of struggled a little bit with the track so I was pumped to come out with a second – great points and it’s the best I’ve ever done at the opener so we’re looking to keep the ball rolling. It’s great to be back in Anaheim and it’s fun to be back racing!”
 
Musquin, the sixth-place qualifier, grabbed a top-five start just behind Webb in 450SX Heat 1, and he ran a solid pace up front for most of the race. Getting caught up with another rider high in the corner, Musquin was sent off into the tough blocks and lost substantial time getting back on-track. Finding himself well outside qualifying position with only a few laps to go, the French rider powered through the final lap to command an eighth-place transfer spot.
 
With an unfavorable gate pick for the Main Event, Musquin started back in ninth but he quickly positioned himself just behind the fifth-place battle. He lost positions in another mid-race crash but he made an immense push to land himself in a dramatic battle for fourth with Chase Sexton. After dicing back-and-forth on the final lap, Musquin was able to secure the upper-hand just before the checkers.
 
Marvin Musquin: “I’m happy right now. It was a long and tough day, with quite a fight for the Main Event. I did my best with outside gate pick and I made some good passes, so I was pumped on the riding and the intensity early on. I made a couple mistakes and I lost contact with Cooper, and then Malcolm passed me. I tried to pass him to the inside but unfortunately, he railed the corner and we hit each other – he didn’t know I was coming – and we both went down. I got up and came back to fourth place, that was amazing. I’m pumped on the push and with the results, to be honest, with all the drama that happened during the main.”
 
Red Bull KTM’s newest rider, Aaron Plessinger, had a rocky start to the season as he suffered a pair of crashes during practice and qualifying. Salvaging an uncharacteristic 19th place qualifying position, Plessinger came out swinging when the gate dropped as he captured a top-five start in 450SX Heat 2.  Settling into a good pace aboard the new KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, Plessinger came on strong midway through the race to secure a solid fourth.
 
In the Main Event, Plessinger didn’t get the best start and he found himself back in 15th on the opening lap. He chipped away throughout the race to make his way into a top-10 position in the final laps, ultimately finishing ninth in his first race with the team.
 
Aaron Plessinger: “It was a pretty rough day for me actually. I started out in Free Practice going down and then I went down in the first qualifying practice as well. I turned it around and ran some decent laps in the second qualifier but it wasn’t a very great position. I got a decent start in the heat race and ran in fourth pretty much the whole time. In the main, I didn’t get a good start at all and I was back of the pack battling. About halfway through, I turned it up a little bit and made some passes up to ninth. Overall, I’m pumped to get through the first round healthy and we’ll back at it in Oakland!”
