MUSQUIN E CAIROLI PROTAGONISTI AL SUPERCROSS di PARIGI 2021
Le star del Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Marvin Musquin e Tony Cairoli sono stati tra i principali protagonisti alla La Defense Arena per il Paris Supercross e l’evento SX annuale più popolare d’Europa. Musquin ha spazzato via l’intera carta della lista per essere incoronato “Re di Parigi” per la terza volta.
Il Paris Supercross è tornato per il 2021 e con un layout di pista semplificato per attirare alcune delle figure di spicco della MXGP, nonché una selezione di voci dagli Stati Uniti e dalla serie AMA Supercross. Tra i viaggiatori dagli Stati Uniti c’era anche Marvin Musquin: il francese ha vinto la Parigi-Lille nel 2016 e ha nuovamente messo le mani sulla corona di ‘Re’ nella prima edizione del raduno nella moderna La Defense Arena nel 2017 .
Il futuro 32enne è uno dei piloti più longevi di KTM, essendo entrato a far parte della squadra ufficiale nel 2009. #25, che ha vinto un round della serie AMA 2021 ed è ancora tra i nomi più competitivi del Contest americano, ha stabilito la sua velocità fin dall’inizio e ha conquistato la Superpole. Ha controllato i primi due sprint e ha affrontato una certa opposizione di Justin Brayton nel terzo, ma ha portato la sua KTM 450 SX-F a una serie di 1-1-1 per guadagnare i plausi davanti a Cedric Soubeyras.
Cairoli, fresco dopo aver tirato il sipario sui suoi diciotto anni di carriera a tempo pieno nei Gran Premi e un’accoglienza estatica all’EICMA di Milano, ha deciso di provare a Parigi dopo aver iniziato la gara nel 2011. Il siciliano è migliorato nel pomeriggio. Una piccola caduta all’inizio della prima Sprint lo ha portato al 17° posto ma ha fatto segnare il 6° e poi un discreto 3° nell’ultima gara fino al 7° posto assoluto; due posti dietro a Chad Reed che ha guidato anche lui una KTM 450 SX-F.
Marvin Musquin: “Re di Parigi 2021; questo era ovviamente l’obiettivo e sono arrivato qui ben preparato mentre ci avviciniamo alla nuova stagione del supercross a gennaio. Questo evento è sempre un buon allenamento per me, anche se quest’anno è stato diverso perché la pista non ha avuto whoops. È stato comunque divertente e il terreno era instabile: era ancora impegnativo. Volevo ottenere holeshot, essere davanti e continuare a spingere fino alla fine. Sono felice. Questa volta era un formato di un giorno, ma mi è piaciuto e sono andato 1-2 con il mio amico Cedric Soubeyras: due francesi! È stato piuttosto sorprendente”.
Tony Cairoli: “E’ stato un bell’evento. Non ero molto preparato per il supercross con MXGP finito così tardi e non avevo il miglior ritmo nelle prime sessioni, ma ho trovato più fluidità nei Main Event e alla fine ho raggiunto i primi tre. È stato bello finire la stagione e con questa esperienza”.

MUSQUIN AND CAIROLI STAR AT 2021 PARIS SUPERCROSS
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing stars Marvin Musquin and Tony Cairoli were among the main protagonists at the La Defense Arena for the Paris Supercross and Europe’s most popular annual SX event. Musquin swept the entire race card to be crowned ‘King of Paris’ for the third time.
The Paris Supercross returned for 2021 and with a simplified track layout to entice some of the leading figures in MXGP as well as a selection of entries from the USA and the AMA Supercross series. Among the travellers from the United State was Marvin Musquin: the Frenchman was a race winner at Paris-Lille in 2016 and laid his hands on the ‘King’ crown once more in the first edition of the meeting in the modern La Defense Arena in 2017.
The soon-to-be 32-year-old is one of KTM’s longest-serving racers, having joined the factory squad during 2009. #25, who claimed a round of the 2021 AMA series and is still among the most competitive names in the American contest, set his speed from the outset and aced the Superpole. He controlled the first two sprints and faced some opposition from Justin Brayton in the third but took his KTM 450 SX-F to a 1-1-1 streak to earn the plaudits ahead of Cedric Soubeyras.
Cairoli, fresh after pulling the curtain on his full-time eighteen-year Grand Prix career and a rapturous reception at the EICMA show in Milan, decided to attempt Paris after initially entering the race back in 2011. The Sicilian improved through the afternoon. A small crash at the start of the first Sprint meant he was 17th but he clocked 6th and then a decent 3rd in the final race to rank 7th overall; two places behind Chad Reed who also rode a KTM 450 SX-F.
Marvin Musquin: “King of Paris 2021; that was obviously the goal and I came here well prepared as we are getting closer to the new supercross season in January. This event is always a good training for me although it was different this year as the track had no whoops. It was fun anyway and the soil was choppy: it was still challenging. I wanted to get holeshots, be at the front and keep pushing to the end. I’m happy. It was a one-day format this time but I enjoyed it and went 1-2 with my buddy Cedric Soubeyras: two Frenchies! That was pretty amazing.”
Tony Cairoli: “It was a nice event. I wasn’t really that well prepared for supercross with MXGP finishing so late and didn’t have the best rhythm in the first sessions but found more flow in Main Events and reached the top three by the end. It was nice to way the season and with this experience.”
