#GrazieVale: Valentino Rossi conclude il suo ultimo Gran Premio MotoGP
La fine di un’era e l’inizio di un nuovo capitolo. Il nove volte campione del mondo Valentino Rossi ha terminato la sua ultima gara in MotoGP.
Avendo annunciato all’inizio dell’anno che si ritirerà dal Gran Premio a partire dall’ultima bandiera della stagione 2021 della FIM MotoGP; L’ultima corsa di Rossi è probabilmente la fine di un’era per i Gran Premi, ma è anche un’occasione per ripercorrere la carriera di uno dei più grandi piloti di moto di tutti i tempi.
Durante le incredibili 26 stagioni, il viaggio agonistico di Valentino Rossi incarna la competizione del Grand Prix ai massimi livelli. Sinonimo di velocità, talento italiano da riempire più vite, il viaggio di Rossi da giovane contendente a nove volte campione del mondo è qualcosa che ogni motociclista vorrebbe emulare, che lo ammettano o meno.
Rossi è stato il pilota più giovane a vincere titoli mondiali combinati in 125cc, 250cc, 500cc e MotoGP, e ha gettato le gambe sulle ufficiali di Aprilia, Honda, Ducati e Yamaha durante il suo mandato sulla scena mondiale. Inoltre, è l’unico pilota a vincere titoli della classe regina su cinque diversi tipi di moto (500cc 4 cilindri due tempi, 990cc 5 cilindri quattro tempi, Yamaha 990cc 4 cilindri quattro tempi, Yamaha 800cc 4 cilindri quattro tempi e un 4 tempi Yamaha 1000cc a 4 cilindri).
Scegliere un record o un momento preferito da una carriera di 431 Gran Premi in cui ha ottenuto 115 vittorie in Gran Premi (89 nella Classe Premier), 96 giri più veloci e 235 podi sarebbe un compito quasi impossibile.
Tuttavia, nei suoi 12 anni con Monster Energy – da quando ha firmato per Unleash The Beast nel 2009, ci sono stati più di una solida manciata di momenti epici e memorabili. Dal burnout davanti alla Torre Eiffel, al dominio del Rally di Monza, al furto d’auto della Nascar di Kyle Busch, allo scambio di posto con il sette volte campione del mondo di Formula 1 Lewis Hamilton, è stato un viaggio incredibile. Guardando al futuro, Rossi ha deciso che ora era il momento migliore per mettere fine alla sua carriera agonistica. Nell’annunciare il suo ritiro, Rossi ha dichiarato: “Ho detto a tutti durante la stagione che avrei preso una decisione sul mio futuro in MotoGP durante la pausa estiva. Adesso ho deciso di fermarmi alla fine di questa stagione. Sfortunatamente questa sarà la mia ultima stagione come pilota della MotoGP. È difficile; ed è un momento molto triste. È difficile per me dire che il prossimo anno non correrò su una moto. Lo faccio da più o meno 30 anni; ma l’anno prossimo la mia vita cambierà. È stato un lungo viaggio lungo e mi sono divertito molto. Ho vissuto dei momenti assolutamente indimenticabili con tutte le squadre e le persone con cui ho corso. Dopo 26 anni nel campionato del mondo è stato grandioso.
Ho avuto una carriera molto lunga e ho avuto la fortuna di vincere molte gare. Alcuni momenti sono per me più indimenticabili di altri. La sensazione che ho avuto dalle corse e la sensazione di pura gioia quando ho vinto è qualcosa che mi mancherà, ed è difficile prendere questa decisione. Ma alla fine sono i risultati a fare la differenza, quindi penso che questa sia la decisione giusta. Al momento non ho molto altro da dire, solo questo!”
Da quando ha messo piede nel paddock del campionato del mondo nel 1996, Rossi è stato uno dei principali attori nel dare forma al Gran Premio motociclistico come lo conosciamo oggi; e mentre siamo sicuri che nessun Gran Premio sarà lo stesso senza il pilota più grande di Tavullia, affiancato dal suo esercito di fan vestiti di giallo fluo; siamo entusiasti di vedere cosa riserva il futuro per The Doctor.

The end of an era, and the beginning of a new chapter. Nine time World Champion Valentino Rossi has finished his final MotoGP race.
Having announced earlier in the year that that he will be retiring from Grand Prix racing effective of the final flag of the 2021 FIM MotoGP season; Rossi’s last ride is arguably the end of an era for Grand Prix racing, but it is also a chance to take a look back at the career of one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time.
Spanning an incredible 26 seasons, Valentino Rossi’s racing journey epitomises Grand Prix competition at the very highest level. Synonymous with speed, talent, and enough Italian flair to fill multiple lifetimes, Rossi’s journey from young contender to nine time World Champion is something every motorcycle racer would want to emulate – whether they would admit it or not.
Rossi was the youngest rider to win combined World Championship titles in 125cc, 250cc, 500cc and MotoGP, and has thrown his leg over factory machinery from Aprilia, Honda, Ducati and Yamaha in his tenure on the world stage. Moreover, he is the only rider to win premier class titles on five different types of motorcycles (500cc 4-cylinder two-stroke, 990cc 5-cylinder four-stroke, Yamaha 990cc 4-cylinder four-stroke, Yamaha 800cc 4-cylinder four-stroke and a Yamaha 1000cc 4-cylinder four-stroke).
Choosing a favourite record or moment out of a 431 Grand Prix race career in which he scored 115 Grand Prix wins (89 in the Premier Class), 96 fastest laps and 235 podiums would be a near impossible task.

Looking to the future, Rossi decided now was the best time to call time on his racing career. On announcing his retirement Rossi said: “I said to everyone during the season that I would make a decision about my MotoGP future during the summer break. I have now decided to stop at the end of this season. Unfortunately this will be my last half of a season as a MotoGP rider. It’s difficult; and it is a very sad moment. It’s difficult for me to say that next year I won’t be racing a motorcycle. I’ve been doing this for more or less 30 years; but next year my life will change. It has been a long long journey and I’ve enjoyed it a lot. I’ve had some absolutely unforgettable moments with all the teams and people I have raced with. After 26 years in the world championship it has been so great.
I’ve had a very long career and I’ve been fortunate to win a lot of races. Some moments are more unforgettable to me than others. The feeling I have got from racing and the feeling of pure joy when I have won is something I will miss, and it is difficult to make this decision. But at the end it is the results that make the difference, and so I think this is the right decision. At the moment I don’t have a lot more to say, just this!”
Since stepping foot in the world championship paddock in 1996, Rossi has been a major player in shaping motorcycle Grand Prix racing as we know it today; and while we are sure that no Grand Prix will be quite the same without the larger than life rider from Tavullia, flanked by his army of fluro-yellow clad fans; we are excited to see what the future hold for The Doctor.
