Medaglie d’argento per Romain Febvre e il Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team
Romain Febvre del Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team ha completato la stagione 2021 con un onorevole secondo classificato nel Campionato Mondiale FIM MXGP Motocross con il suo decimo podio dell’anno a Mantova.
L’asso della Kawasaki ha registrato diversi giri veloci durante le qualifiche mattutine per schierarsi in gara direttamente al fianco del suo rivale per il titolo. Le sue reazioni e la potenza fluida della KX450-SR lo hanno portato in gara per girare davanti nella manche di apertura mentre un collega di squadra del suo rivale in campionato ha preso l’holeshot e ha sfidato ogni mossa del francese durante i primi quattro giri. Al quinto giro il rivale per il titolo di Romain è stato in grado di approfittare del duello serrato per tuffarsi al comando e stabilire un vantaggio prima che il francese potesse finalmente passare al secondo posto. Più e più volte il leader della Kawasaki, abbassando i suoi tempi sul giro di due secondi su una pista libera, ha chiuso il distacco sul suo rivale per il titolo ma non è riuscito a trovare lo slancio per invertire nuovamente le posizioni; i candidati al titolo sono così andati alla trentaseiesima e ultima manche della campagna assolutamente a pari punti. Dopo più di venti ore di azione pulsante la stagione sarebbe andata al limite con il vincitore che prende tutto! Un’altra splendida partenza in gara due ha visto il francese girare secondo alla prima curva prima di passare gloriosamente davanti a metà del primo giro. Un sorpasso aggressivo al secondo giro ha visto il suo rivale per il titolo andare avanti, ma l’uomo della Kawasaki è rimasto attaccato alla sua ruota posteriore fino a un momento strano tre giri dopo, quando la sua ruota posteriore ha improvvisamente trovato una trazione inaspettata lasciando una curva ed è uscito di scena. L’incidente è costato al francese dieci secondi e ha effettivamente posto fine alle sue ambizioni di titolo mondiale, ma si è riorganizzato per finire terzo per il suo decimo podio GP della stagione e una sottile sconfitta di cinque punti nel campionato mondiale FIM MXGP Motocross; i suoi sforzi hanno anche assicurato il secondo posto per Kawasaki nel Campionato del Mondo Costruttori.
Il compagno di squadra KRT Mathys Boisrame, al debutto nelle ultime cinque MXGP, ha corso fino al settimo record personale in gara uno, confermando il ritmo del suo decimo posto in qualifica. Il debuttante della classe è passato da una delle prime sei partenze al quinto posto dopo sei giri e ha ceduto solo due posizioni negli ultimi giri a un avversario più esperto quando la spalla che si è lesionato domenica è diventata dolorante. Gara due si è rivelata più difficile; ha recuperato con forza fino al dodicesimo posto dopo essere stato schiacciato alla prima curva, ma si è ritirato sensibilmente dalla gara a metà moto mentre il dolore alla spalla è aumentato e ha reso sempre più difficile resistere.
Romain Febvre: “Essere così vicino è davvero difficile. Ho dato il massimo per non avere rimpianti, ma non è stato abbastanza per vincere il titolo. In questo momento sono sicuramente un po’ arrabbiato con me stesso, ma questa è la corsa: è un modo difficile per perdere, ma ho dato il massimo. Al momento è davvero dura ma ce la farò; Voglio ringraziare il Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team per tutto il loro investimento e dedizione, abbiamo fatto un ottimo lavoro insieme nelle ultime due stagioni e tornerò a lottare per il titolo per Kawasaki anche l’anno prossimo. “
Mathys Boisrame: “E’ stata di nuovo una giornata mista con una buona sessione di qualifiche col decimo e poi una buona manche di apertura. Sono partito bene e sono riuscito a mantenere un buon ritmo per la maggior parte della manche, ma nell’ultima parte della gara ho avuto dolore alla spalla che si è infortunata domenica. In ogni caso, il settimo è stato un buon risultato. La mia seconda partenza non è stata molto buona, ma sono tornato dodicesimo prima che il dolore alla spalla diventasse troppo intenso e iniziassi a commettere errori, quindi era meglio fermarmi piuttosto che cadere. È stata una bella esperienza guidare una moto ufficiale nella classe MXGP; i miei ringraziamenti al team KRT che mi ha offerto questa opportunità e ora mi prenderò un po’ di riposo per riprendermi dalla stagione”.

Silver medals for Romain Febvre and the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team
The Kawasaki ace posted multiple fast laps during morning Qualification to line-up in racing directly alongside his title rival. His reactions and the smooth power of the KX450-SR pulled him clear in the race to turn one in the opening moto as a team colleague of his championship rival took the holeshot and defied every move by the Frenchman through the first four laps. On lap five Romain’s title rival was able to take advantage of the tight duel to dive inside for the lead and establish a cushion before the Frenchman could finally move into second. Time-and-again the Kawasaki leader, dropping his lap times by two seconds on a clear track, closed down his title rival but could not quite find the momentum to reverse the positions again; the title candidates thus went into the thirty-sixth and final moto of the campaign absolutely level on points. After more than twenty hours of pulsating action the season would go to the wire with winner-takes-all! Another superb start in race two saw the Frenchman round the first turn second before sweeping gloriously to the front halfway round the opening lap. An aggressive pass on lap two saw his title rival move ahead but the Kawasaki man stuck to his rear wheel until a freak moment three laps later as his rear wheel suddenly found unexpected traction leaving a turn and he looped out. The incident cost the Frenchman ten seconds and effectively ended his world title ambitions but he regrouped to finish third for his tenth GP podium of the season and a slender five-point defeat in the individual FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship; his endeavours also ensured second place for Kawasaki in the Manufacturers’ World Championship.
KRT teammate Mathys Boisrame, debuting in the final five MXGPs raced to a personal-best seventh in race one as he confirmed the pace of his tenth place in Qualifying. The class rookie advanced from a top-six start to fifth after six laps and only surrendered two places in the closing laps to more-experienced opposition as the shoulder he damaged on Sunday became painful. Race two proved more difficult; he recovered strongly to twelfth after being squeezed at the awkward first turn, but sensibly withdrew from the race mid-moto as the pain in his shoulder increased and made it ever more difficult to hold on.
Romain Febvre: “To fall that close is really tough. I gave my best so I have no regrets, but it wasn’t quite enough to take the title. Right now I feel a little mad with myself for sure but that’s racing: it’s a hard way to lose but I gave my all. At the moment it’s really tough but I will get through it; I want to thanks the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team for all their investment and dedication, we did a great job together during the past two seasons and I will be back to battle for the title for Kawasaki again next year. “
Mathys Boisrame: “It was a mixed day again with a good Qualifying session as tenth and then a good opening moto. I had a good start and could keep a strong pace for most of the moto, but in the last part of the race I had pain in the shoulder I damaged on Sunday. Anyway, seventh was a good result. My second start was not so good but I came back to twelfth before the pain in my shoulder became too intense and I started to make mistakes so it was better to stop rather than crash. It was a great experience to ride a factory bike in the MXGP class; my thanks to the KRT team who offered me this opportunity and now I’ll take some rest to recover from the season.”
