Romain Febvre conduce di tre punti il round finale di MXGP
Romain Febvre del Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team ha un vantaggio di tre punti per il round finale del campionato mondiale di motocross FIM MXGP mercoledì dopo aver condiviso i primi punti a Mantova.
Il francese ha guadagnato il secondo posto in qualifica con un giro immacolato a solo un terzo di secondo dalla pole e ha utilizzato il suo intelligente gate-pick per girare secondo nella prima manche prima di fare un sorpasso decisivo per il comando a metà del giro iniziale.
Dopo soli dieci minuti ha subito ottenuto il vantaggio di sei secondi e ha gestito perfettamente il suo vantaggio per prendere per primo la bandiera a scacchi con una prestazione immacolata senza rischi sulla pista accidentata. La sua KX450-SR ancora una volta si è agganciata superbamente fuori dal cancello in gara due e Romain si è subito affermato tra i primi tre e dopo sei minuti ha eseguito un sorpasso intelligente per passare al secondo posto. Il leader era già parecchi secondi avanti; la Kawasaki ha dato la caccia per mantenere il distacco per la maggior parte della gara, ma alla fine, con un enorme vantaggio sugli inseguitori, ha ragionevolmente portato a casa un secondo sicuro nell’ultimo giro per condividere i primi punti della giornata e prendere i punti della serie- testa e tabella rossa nella fase finale nella stessa sede di mercoledì.
Il compagno di squadra KRT Mathys Boisrame continua a maturare man mano che acquisisce maggiore familiarità con la sua nuova corsa solo nella sua quarta MXGP. Undicesimo in qualifica è stato sesto dopo un giro in gara uno ed è persino passato al quinto posto per un po’ prima di accontentarsi del nono posto, a soli tre secondi dal sesto contro avversari più esperti, mentre le braccia dure sono inevitabilmente entrati in azione negli ultimi giri. La seconda gara si è rivelata più difficile in quanto Mathys è rimasto impigliato nel traffico nelle prime due curve ed è uscito trentesimo; è avanzato rapidamente al quattordicesimo nel giro due giri prima che un altro incidente lo spingesse ancora una volta in coda al gruppo, ma è tornato in zona punti per metà distanza quando la ruota anteriore si è affondata in una banchina morbida e si è ritirato dalla gara dopo essere atterrato pesantemente sulla sua spalla.
Romain Febvre: “Quella è stata sicuramente una grande vittoria nella prima manche. Mi sono sentito bene in pista oggi, anche se è davvero impreciso in alcuni punti con la superficie sciolta su una base dura. Ho preso il comando abbastanza presto nella prima gara, ma è stato difficile essere sicuri delle migliori linee davanti. È stata una gara pesante e ho faticato un po’ a metà moto, ma l’ho ripreso alla fine per un buon finale. Anche in gara due sono partito alla grande ma non volevo correre il rischio di una collisione per passare Prado e ho perso un po’ di tempo con Jeffrey. Ho fatto alcuni giri veloci per accorciare un po’ il gap ma lui aveva ancora tre o quattro secondi di vantaggio, quindi a un certo punto ho deciso di accontentarmi del secondo posto e portare la tabella rossa all’ultimo round. Può sembrare strano che io ancora non senta alcuna pressione. Abbiamo iniziato davvero bene con la nostra KX450-SR qui nella sabbia, quindi sono fiducioso per mercoledì. Siamo molto vicini e vincerà il migliore. È partita! “
Mathys Boisrame: “La MXGP è nuova per me ed è dura, ma mi sto divertendo e mi sento davvero bene sulla Kawasaki ufficiale. Avevo un buon feeling con la pista ed ero contento dell’undicesimo gate pick di oggi. La prima partenza è andata bene; Ero sesto e ho perso solo poche posizioni verso la fine a causa delle braccia dure, ma è stata una buona moto con una buona partenza e una buona velocità. La seconda partenza non è andata molto bene e ho avuto una grossa caduta dopo pochi giri, ho provato a continuare ma la spalla mi faceva male e mi sono dovuto fermare. Sono andato al centro medico per un esame; nulla di danneggiato quindi ora ho due giorni per recuperare prima del GP finale”.

Romain Febvre of the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team takes a three-point lead to the final round of the FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship on Wednesday after sharing top points at Mantova.The Frenchman earnt second in Qualifying with an immaculate lap just one-third of a second off pole and utilised his smart gate-pick to round turn one second in the first moto before making a decisive pass for the lead halfway round the opening lap.
He immediately raced clear to lead by six seconds after only ten minutes and coolly managed his lead perfectly to take the chequered flag first with an immaculate no-risk performance on the rugged track. His KX450-SR once again hooking up superbly out of the gate in race two Romain immediately established himself in the top three and after six minutes he executed a clever pass to move second. The leader was already several seconds in front; the Kawasaki gave chase to hold the gap for most of the race but in the end, with a huge advantage over the chasers, he sensibly rode home a secure second on the final lap to share top points on the day and take the series points-lead and the red plate into the final round at the same venue on Wednesday.
KRT teammate Mathys Boisrame continues to mature as he becomes more acquainted with his new ride in only his fourth MXGP. Eleventh in Qualifying he was sixth after a lap in race one and even moved forward to fifth for a time before eventually settling for ninth, just three seconds from sixth against more experienced opposition, as arm-pump inevitably kicked in through the closing laps. The second race proved more difficult as Mathys got entangled in traffic through the first two turns to emerge thirtieth; he advanced quickly to fourteenth within two laps before another incident thrust him once more to the tail of the field but was back in the points by half-distance when the front wheel buried itself in a soft berm and he withdrew from the race after landing heavily on his shoulder.
Romain Febvre: “That was definitely a big win in the first moto. I felt good on the track today though it’s really sketchy in places with the loose surface on a hard base. I took the lead pretty early in the first race but it was tough at the front to be sure of the best lines. It was a heavy race and I struggled a little mid-moto but picked it up again at the end for a strong finish. I again got a great start in race two but I didn’t want to take any risk of a collision to pass Prado and I lost some time to Jeffrey. I made some fast laps to close the gap a little but he was still three or four seconds clear so at one point I decided to settle for second and take the red plate to the final round. It may sound strange that I still don’t feel any pressure. We have really good starts with our KX450-SR here in the sand so I’m confident for Wednesday. We are really close and the best man will win. It’s game on! “
Mathys Boisrame: “MXGP is new for me and it’s tough but I’m enjoying it and feeling really good on the factory Kawasaki. I had a good feeling with the track and was happy with the eleventh gate-pick today. The first start was OK; I was sixth and only lost a few positions near the end due to arm pump but it was a good moto with a good start and good speed. The second start was not so good and I had a big crash after a few laps, I tried to continue but the shoulder was painful and I had to stop. I went to the medical centre for an examination; nothing damaged so I now have two days to recover before the final GP.”
