Romain Febvre resta secondo in campionato
Romain Febvre del Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team resta secondo in zona punti con altri quattro round del Campionato Mondiale FIM MXGP Motocross da correre dopo il GP del Trentino a Pietramurata.
Il francese, a meno di mezzo secondo dalla pole durante le qualifiche mattutine dopo aver superato le prove libere, era pieno di fiducia in vista delle corse e ha fatto un giro di apertura davvero entusiasmante in gara uno dopo essere stato chiuso fuori dal cancello e spinto largo alla curva due; cambiando le linee a piacimento a bordo dell’agile KX450-SR ha spazzato via tre rivali in una sola curva prima di tuffarsi all’interno di un altro quick-gater per il terzo posto prima del completamento del giro. Desideroso di continuare lo slancio, ha puntato gli occhi sul leader della classifica, tirando due volte al fianco ma sulla linea meno favorevole per la curva successiva, prima che la situazione diventasse ancora più intensa poiché il duello consentiva al terzo rivale del titolo di chiudersi alle sue spalle; pienamente consapevole che un attacco troppo zelante potrebbe aprire la porta al suo inseguitore, Febvre ha abilmente lasciato cadere l’uomo di testa più volte in modo che potesse usare il suo ritmo per montare nuovi attacchi senza pericolo da dietro, ma facendo in modo che il passaggio finale rimanesse nell’ombra intorno alla pista di tornanti delle Dolomiti si è sempre dimostrato notoriamente difficile e alla fine si è dovuto accontentare del terzo posto alla bandiera a scacchi. Il francese ha strappato le prime curve di gara due al secondo posto e nel giro di mezzo giro aveva preso il comando. Una vittoria della manche, anche del GP generale, sembrava essere nelle carte mentre correva chiaro ma a quindici minuti dalla fine il francese ha iniziato a irrigidirsi mentre commetteva piccoli errori per permettere agli inseguitori di avvicinarsi alla sua ruota posteriore; passando alla modalità difesa è stato riportato al quarto posto nello spazio di quattro brevi giri e, sebbene potesse mantenere il ritmo una volta passati, ha dovuto accettare il quarto posto alla fine per perdere il podio anche se il suo punteggio della giornata era uguale a quello del secondo classificato. Con quattro round del campionato rimanenti, mantiene il secondo posto nella serie di inseguimenti, anche se ora segue il leader di ventiquattro punti. La serie continua con il secondo dei tre GP nella stessa sede mercoledì.
Mathys Boisrame, che si è unito al team per gli ultimi cinque GP della stagione al posto del recente infortunato Ivo Monticelli, ha fatto uno straordinario debutto in MXGP. Un impressionante decimo più veloce in qualifica, ha vissuto un torrido giro di apertura nel traffico in gara uno quando è caduto con un altro pilota e si è ritrovato venticinquesimo per la prima volta oltre i cronometristi. Ma ha risposto in modo ammirevole per librarsi nel gruppo, assicurandosi il nono posto, nelle tracce dell’ottavo, nell’ultimo giro. La seconda gara ha seguito uno schema simile con il debuttante sedicesimo al primo giro, ma ancora una volta ha superato il battesimo del fuoco con il massimo dei voti, avanzando ancora una volta al nono posto per il sesto posto assoluto, un risultato superbo al suo debutto nella serie di gare più dura al mondo .
Romain Febvre: “Naturalmente sono dispiaciuto di perdere il podio perché siamo quattro piloti con lo stesso numero di punti per il secondo! La prima gara è stata abbastanza buona; la mia partenza non è stata così buona, ma ho fatto alcuni sorpassi durante il primo giro e il mio ritmo era buono, ma è stato difficile superare durante il resto della gara. Nella seconda gara sono partito alla grande e sono passato in testa al primo giro; Ho avuto buoni tempi fino a metà gara, poi ho iniziato a fare piccoli errori e non sapevo davvero quali traiettorie migliori avrei potuto prendere; Glenn, Jeffrey e Tim mi hanno superato e ovviamente sono deluso, ma è così e cercheremo di fare meglio mercoledì. “
Mathys Boisrame: “È stata una buona giornata per la mia prima esperienza nella classe MXGP! Ho fatto registrare il decimo tempo al mattino ma la prima partenza non è stata facile e alla quarta curva sono caduto con Cairoli! Ero venticinquesimo e sono tornato fino al nono, il che non è stato male. La seconda partenza è stata simile ma ancora una volta sono tornato nono. Sono stanco ma soddisfatto della mia guida e al settimo cielo con un sesto posto assoluto alla mia prima gara MXGP. “

The Frenchman, less than half a second off pole during morning Qualifying after topping Free Practice, was full of confidence headed into racing and rode a truly enthralling opening lap in race one after being closed down off the gate and pushed wide at turn two; switching lines at will aboard the agile KX450-SR he swept around three rivals in one turn alone before diving inside another quick-gater for third before the completion of the lap. Keen to continue the momentum he set his sights on the series points leader next, twice pulling alongside but on the less favourable line for the following turn, before the situation became even more intense as the duel allowed the third title rival to close onto his rear wheel; fully aware that an overzealous attack could open the door to his chaser Febvre cleverly dropped off the front man several times so that he could use his pace to mount renewed attacks without danger from behind but making the final pass stick around the switchback track in the shadow of the Dolomites has always proven notoriously difficult and he eventually had to settle for third at the chequered flag. The The Frenchman tore through the opening turns of race two in second place and within half-a-lap had taken over the lead. A moto win, even the GP overall, appeared to be on the cards as he raced clear but with fifteen minute to go the Frenchman began to tense up as he made small mistakes to allow the chasers to close onto his rear wheel; switching to defence mode he was pushed back to fourth in the space of four short laps and, although he could maintain the pace once they were past, he had to accept fourth at the close to miss the podium even though his score on the day was the same as that of the runner-up. With four rounds of the championship remaining he retains second in the series points chase though he now trails the leader by twenty-four points. The series continues with the second of three GPs at the same venue on Wednesday.
Mathys Boisrame, joining the team for the final five GPs of the season in place of the recently-operated Ivo Monticelli, made a stunning MXGP debut. An impressive tenth-fastest in Qualifying he experienced a torrid opening lap in traffic in race one as he crashed with another rider and found himself way back in twenty-fifth the first time past the timekeepers. But he responded admirably to soar through the pack, securing ninth place, in the wheel tracks of eighth, on the final lap. The second race followed a similar pattern with the rookie sixteenth on lap one but he again came through his baptism of fire with honours as he advanced to ninth once more for sixth overall, a superb result on his debut in the toughest race serie in the world.
Romain Febvre: “Of course I am disappointed to miss the podium as we are four riders with the same number of points for second! The first race was pretty good; my start was not that good but I made some passes during the first lap and my rhythm was good but it was difficult to pass during the rest of the race. Second race I got a great start and took the lead on the first lap; I had good lap times until mid-race, then I started to make little mistakes and I didn’t really know which better lines I could take; Glenn, Jeffrey and Tim passed me and of course I’m disappointed, but that’s how it is and we’ll try to do better on Wednesday. “
Mathys Boisrame: “It was a good day for my first experience in the MXGP class! I posted the tenth fastest time in the morning but the first start was not easy and in the fourth corner I crashed with Cairoli! I was twenty-fifth and came back through to ninth which was not bad. The second start was similar but once more I came back to ninth. I am tired but satisfied with my riding and over the moon with a sixth overall at my first MXGP race. “
